25.01.2022 So true! And a good birth experience can help pave the way to a positive parenting experience (although it's not always the case). Support for birth and parenting is so important!

24.01.2022 Have you been told that there is no point in making a 'Birth Plan'? That you can't plan for birth or that things might not home according to plan? What if we told you that it's not so much the actual plan that holds the power, but rather the knowledge you gain while making one We'll be talking all about birth plans this Sunday at our meeting.

21.01.2022 I've just been talking to a fellow midwife and it seems like the same themes are happening everywhere.... Parents thinking that the only place available to get information from is the hospital Parent thinking they have to just follow the HCPs information... HCPs thinking informed consent doesn't apply in maternity services Parents left holding their baby, not too sure what just happened to them or where the follow up support is We want to shout this from the roof tops - YOU DO HAVE OPTIONS. YOU ARE ENTITLED TO MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS ABOUT YOUR CARE THERE ARE SUPPORTS OUT THERE FOR PREGNANCY AND PARENTING Come along to our meeting next Sunday (19/1) and we'll tell you all about it 74 Nollamara Ave, Nollamara. 9.30am - 11.30am. Children welcome (Note - HCPs = Health Care Professionals)

19.01.2022 For the new decade we have undergone some changes here at the Positive Birth Movement Perth! So that we can incorporate some parenting topics that we feel are needed, we have included 'parenting' in our name. We look forward to meeting you - parents and parents-to-be of Perth!... Our next meeting is on the 16th February and will be on making Birth Plans - what should be included in them, how they should be worded, and why they ARE important. Unfortunately for February Jenna will not be able to join us, but we look forward to having her back with us soon!

18.01.2022 Well done Frida Mom for normalizing post birth! This is real life

16.01.2022 Looking to seeing you all at our first meeting of 2020!

16.01.2022 We are very excited to announce that from January 2020 our monthly meetings will be held here! There is a full kitchen, AC and 2 toilets (because we know how important all 3 of those things are to those expecting a baby!) There's also a huge backyard The centre is in Nollamara, the address will be posted on the events

11.01.2022 We're looking forward to our meeting this morning!!

09.01.2022 Thanks to Sara from Bloom Yoga Room for sharing this article with us https://www.bloomyoga.com.au//how-prenatal-yoga-can-help-y

09.01.2022 We have just posted up the next 3 months of meetings. We are going to try something different and have them on Sunday mornings - we've come to realise that not everyone is available on weekday mornings, so hopefully this will allow more people to attend and benefit from the great information that is given at the meeings Any questions please do not hesitate to contact us!

08.01.2022 We have a great new venue and are really looking forward to seeing you this Sunday. Positions for birth is something both facilitators are very passionate about and it will be a very interactive session! #positivebirth #positivebirthstartswithknowledge #birthpositions

07.01.2022 Look at this positioning guide for labour from the 1940s! How great is it. Unfortunately now the majority of birth rooms feature the bed and subconsciously we think we habe have to be on it during labour (because we're in a hospital and that's what you do in a hospital room, right?). Our next meeting on the 21st will be in positions for birth and we'll discuss good positions for labour and birth and how you can use the bed without actually lying down on it - we look forward to seeing you there!

06.01.2022 What are your thoughts on 'internals', aka vaginal examinations or cervical checks? Do you know they're not compulsory? Did you have any? "I went into labour thinking I'd decline them, but then asked for 2 (one at about 3-4cm and another at 8cm). They were my decision and both helped me. But as a midwife I've seen how regular checking can hinder progress and the language used discourage a parent during birth...." ~ Justine (group co-facilitator)... 01.01.2022 From the main @positivebirthmovement page "During pregnancy women are often reminded that the pinnacle of their expectations should be a healthy baby, most often at times when they show signs of being keen to take an active role in the decision making. Birth plans are a crucible for this a woman who goes so far as to outline on paper what she would like to happen to her in labour will be discouraged, at best, or even openly mocked, as we saw in 2017 when doctors on twitte...r joked that laminated birth plans were only useful if the woman had a massive haemorrhage. Such attitudes pervade modern maternity care. I hear them embedded in womens birth stories daily, & you only need at look at reactions to celebrity births to find more of the same. Meghan Markle was mocked in the run up to the birth of her first baby. A doula and a willow tree, an obstetrician joked, Lets see how that goes!. The willow tree, like the floaty dress, pokes fun at natural birth, & portrays Meghan as demanding enough to want a particular kind of tree. Its all intended as humour, but underneath the surface is the rather chilling idea that a kind of satisfaction or sense of triumph might be gained from seeing a womans ideal hopes for her birth go to the wall. Selfish, opinionated, controlling and difficult: women can often be to be treated like wayward children when they try to create this grown-up document. Birth plans are a fantastic opportunity for women to consider their many options and open a meaningful dialogue with their care providers about their choices. Why would anyone find this problematic, one wonders?" An edited extract from Give Birth Like a Feminist, by Milli Hill
