(And to share some good news - since this post we have received 3 lots of grant funding from various Primary Health Networks in NSW and SA and we are working on a bigger funding support strategy right now - will share more news on that as it comes to hand). Happy Tuesday everyone

24.01.2022 Lots of people talk about making time for ourselves - 'You can't pour from an empty cup' - but that's easy to say when life is full or overwhelming or both. And preventative self care is completely different to waiting until you're at breaking point.

24.01.2022 Some more practical ideas to support you as you support others. And remember you can always reach out for support before anyone asks R U OK

22.01.2022 From the Positive Living Skills team to you, we wish you joy and love and health and peace, at this time of year, and always. Take some time to acknowledge yourself, appreciate your resilience and please reach out for support if you need it, and connect with others who could benefit from your support. We know that this time of year is special for many and very challenging for many as well. However you feel is ok. Looking forward to supporting more communities in 2021. Thanks for your support this year. Much love #positivelivingskills #emotionalintelligence #mentalhealth

22.01.2022 We enjoyed talking all things ‘Feelings’ when we caught up with Amanda Dounis from the Positive Thinking Clinic a few weeks ago. It’s wonderful to speak with like minded people who are committed to supporting young people to learn practical skills for emotional intelligence and mental fitness

19.01.2022 What a year! Then in Australia, just as we were looking forward to spending Christmas with our interstate friends and family, many are locked down again. At this time of year and in these circumstances, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT is so important. Check out our latest Positive Living Skills article for some practical strategies to help you acknowledge yourself and others, and why that is so powerfully good for you, especially right now. #emotionalintelligence https://www.positivelivingskills.com.au//the-power-of-ackn

19.01.2022 When we have big goals sometimes we feel the need to achieve it ALL NOW, so we can jump 'ALL IN' wanting to achieve the outcome fast and if this doesn't happen we can feel discouraged which can have us giving up or feeling down. How do we feel settled with how we are working toward goals?

19.01.2022 This week maybe we can all work on seeing the world through the eyes of a child, even if just for a few moments

15.01.2022 This will make you smile

15.01.2022 Something delightful to enjoy - a beautiful little family

15.01.2022 Today is R U OK Day. There are so many tips and tools you can use to learn how to ask someone if they are OK, how to let people know you are ready whenever they want to talk, and how to respond if someone says they're not OK. It's important to listen, without judgement, be honest if you are not sure how you can help, while being willing to listen and help them. You are not there to give advice, and it's good to avoid assumptions like 'I know how you feel', even though you ar...e wanting to show empathy. Asking them how you can help is one good idea as is suggesting that they speak to a professional for support or reach out to one of the crisis lines mentioned below. R U OK have put together some very helpful resources to support us to learn what to say AFTER R U OK including roleplay videos and lots of ideas. 14.01.2022 When our children are behaving in not-so-adorable ways, their behaviour might be messy and confusing and wildly maddening, but it will never be about a bad chil...d. It will be about a well-intended, good hearted child who is being driven by something we cant see - a need, feeling, thought, or other internal experience. This doesnt mean no boundaries. It means there are lessons for them to learn, and its okay if it takes time for them to learn them. These lessons will happen in a more enduring, meaningful way if there is safe space for them to be learned, gentle expectations that our children are capable of learning them, and the influence of a loving adult to guide the way. As the important big people in their lives, our challenge is to avoid taking their behaviour personally. This can be so hard - but its so important - but so hard! If we can do this, we can then approach them with curious eyes, an open mind, and an open heart. We can bring ourselves closer to them and that precious space beside them, inside their world. Then, we can learn what we need to learn, so they can too. We can widen the way to us, and expand our capacity to influence them towards choices that work better for them. This might take time, but we have plenty of it - years actually. There are no shortcuts and there is no hurry. And dont worry about what the rest of the world might be thinking when the bumps get bumpy - (which they often do, in public). You have been charged with the privileged role of building a small human into an adult, and you can take all the time you need. A young brain will respond to needs, thoughts and feelings in primitive, instinctive ways until it learns a new way. Our job as parents and the important adults in their lives isnt to make our children behave, but to give them the space, gentle expectations, patience, love and influence to guide them so that they can learn how to do this (behave) for themselves. They have the right to get it wrong as many times as it takes. They will need different things, at different times, in different ways - and there is no express lane. This is why it is a magnificent adventure for all of us.

13.01.2022 A good thing to remember as we start another week

13.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators Day. We acknowledge and appreciate all the vital work and contribution made by all the Early Childhood Educators, on this and every day. THANK YOU!! #EarlyChildhoodEducatorsDay

12.01.2022 To ask for help shows courage, vulnerability, strength, honesty and self-awareness.

11.01.2022 Yes. The paradox and beauty and fragility of being human. We are built to feel the full range of emotions and still move forward with our lives and experience lots of peace love and joy

10.01.2022 Incredibly sad and devastating for these families and everyone in these communities. These boys should be living their lives and enjoying their days and knowing they can cope with the ups and downs life will throw at them. We do what we do at Positive Living Skills to help young people build skills to be able to speak up about what is bothering them and seek the support they need. To avoid this. Our sincere condolences to these families and our thanks to them for sharing this story.

10.01.2022 Here are a couple of self-care resources that might support. This relates to the PLS Tuesday Tip we shared this morning. Every day and every month is the perfect time for some form of Self-care

10.01.2022 SUPPORT THE MENTAL HEALTH OF OUR CHILDREN According to a recent report from the University of Sydney, even in a best-case scenario, Australia is forecast to see an increase in suicide deaths of at least 13.7% over the next 5 years. YES more funding needs to go into preventing those who are experiencing mental illness from harming themselves or others. That could save people this year and next year. What about the young children? What can we do NOW that can help teac...h young children long term habits for RESILIENCE and emotional wellbeing? There are a lot of initiatives that involve people standing at the edge of the cliff trying to keep people safe, or sadly, at the bottom of the cliff trying to clean up the devastation. The Positive Living Skills programs can HELP Australian communities right NOW. (Primary Teacher feedback August 2020) *****"Students are aware that other people can feel the way that they do. They are not alone in their feelings and that talking about them helps. How listening to others talk about their emotions is an important thing to do to be kind to others."***** If you are a teacher, Wellbeing Coordinator, School Counsellor, Chaplin or Principal involved in Primary School education, or you are an Educator, Director or owner involved in Early Childhood Education and Care, or you are a Concerned Parent, we invite you to find out more about the Positive Living Skills initiative. Our programs are CURRICULUM MAPPED, ready to implement NOW, giving teachers the HOW to teach mental WELLBEING to children from 3-12 yrs. The PLS programs support the national Be You (Beyond Blue) initiative and PBL approaches, and provide educators with pre-prepared, resourced lesson plans that give them a common language to teach children PREVENTATIVE skills to support RESILIENCE and emotional wellbeing, with resources reaching home to families. Visit the PLS website now to learn more, download an Information pack or flyer with pricing and options or email or message us. ([email protected]) NOW is the time for Positive Living Skills.

10.01.2022 Take care of yourself.

09.01.2022 Looking for some Saturday morning heart warming inspiration - here it is

08.01.2022 News flash! An updated range of flexible PLS Primary School program packages starting at $249 almost ready to launch!! News flash! An updated range of flexible PLS Primary School program packages starting at $249 almost ready to launch!!

08.01.2022 We are all human - the key is to build our self awareness so we can quickly realise when we are thinking or behaving in ways that arent supporting ourselves or others and then change channels

07.01.2022 Recently PLS Founders Cath and Jo really enjoyed chatting with Amanda Dounis of the Positive Thinking Clinic - exploring one of the key concepts of the PLS programs: HIGHLIGHTS. In this podcast style video, the three of us discuss the importance of noticing and experiencing HIGHLIGHT in our days, and how important it is for the young people, educators and families, now maybe even more than ever. No matter what circumstances we find ourselves in, we can always find simple joys, and the more we immerse ourselves in those simply positive experiences, the more we are 'hardwiring' ourselves for more happiness.

05.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators Day

04.01.2022 Here's something to make you smile. The power of music and movement = pure joy

03.01.2022 Parents and carers and their children can experience a range of emotions when young children are transitioning to Primary School. This tip might help everyone. Thanks so much Hailey!

03.01.2022 As we start an important week of the year, and many people are facing new unexpected challenges, remember that it is possible to still tap into peace and calm.

01.01.2022 Its very frustrating!!

01.01.2022 Loving reading survey responses from our member Early Childhood and Primary School educators. So far we have received 48 responses and it's wonderful to read so many positive comments. PLUS when educators consider the social and emotional competency of the children they work with BEFORE implementing PLS and then AFTER implementing PLS, there is a solid increase: Early Childhood: BEFORE 2.5 (out of possible 5) AFTER: 3.7 Primary School:... BEFORE 2.8 (out of possible 5) AFTER 3.6 So happy that the program is making such a positive impact AND Educators are saying the program is EASY to DELIVER too (4.5 out of a possible ) Contact us NOW to find out how PLS can support the RESILIENCE, and the EMOTIONAL WELLBEING of the children, educators and families in your community.
