23.01.2022 Don't let your mind or disorder convince you of anything otherwise.

22.01.2022 "The biggest performance gains in sport don’t come from protein supplements. They come from the triad of a broad varied diet, adequate rest and recovery, and the one supplement that all athletes need to be taking: BHW (bloody hard work)." Not all proteins are created equal... #protein #nutrition #exercise #fitness #lifestyle #weightloss #nutritionist

18.01.2022 Are you wondering why on earth some Dietitians don't talk much about the intricacies of individual nutrients, the minutae of dietary requirements or engage in c...omplex and confusing debates about this food or that food? But interestingly at the same time we've got nutrition "experts" going all red in the face about specific foods or nutrients that they're absolutely sure will change your life? Because my dear friends, it's (most often) not about the food. For some people it is, and that's what we call "Medical Nutrition Therapy" - the specific prescribing of a particular diet for a specific disease state, or condition which may be temporary, or more permanent. But for most people who see a Dietitian, it's not actually about the food...let me explain..... All Dietitians are trained in the food and nutrient-centric model that has been around for many years, in different variations as we find out more about food, eating and the human body. But see there's a "problem" (and yes I do see it as a problem) that arises when you spend time with real life human beings - it becomes bleedingly obvious that going on and on about nutrients and food can ultimately make people's problems worse, and perpetuate the narrative that if we could just get our eating "right" then we'd prevent all illness and live forever. Riiiiight. *this is the point many amazing people drop out of the profession OR go "WTF!" and look for a different way of working.......enter Health At Every Size and the Non Diet Approach, where we choose to take the person-centred way of working, where you're the star of the show and optimal body-mind wellbeing is aim of the game, whatever that means to you (if it's even important at all - that again is up to you). I meet people every single day who struggle in their relationship with food, eating and their body. It's heartbreaking. These are often highly intelligent people who have a good understanding of nutrition (even they would admit, sometimes too much knowledge!!) so this isn't the problem. It takes a hell of a lot of courage to let go of the attachment to knowledge and move down into the body and build skills in intuitive nutrition which is developing an understanding of what your body needs, and desires. It's not that we won't talk about food, it's just that we're more interested in your relationship with food (the how and why) than we are asking about what you actually eat. In other words, we'd rather equip you with skills in what we call "nutritional self care" than writing a meal plan..... I guess what we're asking people to understand is that when we hear "please write me a meal plan" we are summoning all energy not to staple our own hand to the desk lol :) So if it's not about the food, and we're wanting to talk LESS about food, what IS it about? It's about being human and acknowledging our own experiences with kindness. It's about wanting to feel connected. To yourself and others. It's about respecting and accepting your body in the world where massive companies directly profit from your self doubt. It's about pushing back on messages that tell us that if we only tried harder, we'd be better. It's all BS It's not about the food. You're not alone. And you CAN enjoy a better, more relaxed relationship with eating. If you need some healing with food, please see a Non Diet (or Health At Every Size) Dietitian! 10.01.2022 To all the wonderful people of Australia and New Year, this is worth a watch! Have a very merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Enjoy the festive season, "strolling through a summer wonderland"! While this time of year may be a time for over eating & over drinking, try your best to practice #moderation! A good way of doing that is recording your food and drink intake down daily (quantity, time, what), therefore enabling you to reflect on your eating and drinking habits, generally encouraging you to not eat and drink just for the sake of it, but only when you should/are actually hungry! Using your phone notes or photos is a easy way, or there are many apps available too. #nutritionist #wellbeing #nutrition #weight #mindfuleating #food #festiveseason

07.01.2022 Positive vibes! Be inspired & grateful!

04.01.2022 Diet culture hides in SO many different ways. Sometimes we don't even realize that we've been sucked back into a diet because we believe that this one is differ...ent... "it's a lifestyle change"... "it's for my health." The "clean eating" movement is one of the biggest culprits these days, disguising itself as a benevolent healer when in reality it fits right into the diet paradigm just like the rest of them. The buzzwords are "healthy" instead of "skinny" and "clean" instead of "lite" or "low-cal," but it all comes down to the same thing: attempting to control your body. If we want to be free from diet culture once and for all, we have to accept that control doesn't work, and it is only through self-compassion and self-care that we can find true peace with food. (This tidbit came from my amazing conversation with @isabelfoxenduke on the latest Food Psych episode! If you're into hearing more about body positivity, health at every size, eating disorder recovery, feminism, anti-diet culture, and so much more, head on over to wherever you get your podcasts and subscribe to Food Psych!) #haes #intuitiveeating #edrecovery #antidietproject #antidiet #riotsnotdiets #effyourbeautystandards #losehatenotweight #nourishnotpunish #recoverywarriors #balancednotclean #foodisfuel #prorecovery #bodyposi #bodypositive #bopo #foodpsychpod #foodpsych See more
