23.01.2022 ALL dogs with excess physical energy, have emotional instability, require confidence building, owners with limited mobility, dog reactive, extreme weather conditions, change in living circumstances, and the list goes on will benefit attending this program. This may seem a reasonable drive after a long day at work but one well worth pursuing. Our dogs see their world through their nose and their eyes validate it. We see the world through our eyes and our noses validate it. A dogs walk when just moving forward is similar to us travelling on a tour guide bus covering our eyes - it is just not right!

18.01.2022 Anyone who knows Gemma also knows she struggles to maintain her excitement when a person enters her home! Don’t be fooled by these photos Nicki Morgan from @Elemental Bowan also received this greeting! I engaged her services as I suspected Gemma was experiencing slight back/shoulder pain. Gemma holds suspicion for all that is new and I have not ever seen Gemma behave like this, all her movements were voluntary. Nicki Morgan 0438 564 123

16.01.2022 Your dogs sleep pattern when in an unfamiliar environment & even when you are present is severely disrupted. Camping with their family, a kennel stay, moving house, spending time with familiar friends at the friends home, board and train, animal shelter - where ever is not their home. I recall studying our dogs sleeping patterns, for all the dog geeks. Humans have a binary sleep we are awake during the day and sleep at night with only a few sleep cycles of around 90 mi...nutes and generally do not regain consciousness between these cycles. Dogs do not have a binary sleep pattern at night and research indicates during an 8-hour night period they may go through around 23 sleep cycles, each lasting around 21 minutes. During that 21 minute sleep cycle, they are asleep approximately 16 minutes of that and awake for the remaining 5 minutes. Additionally, when humans sleep, we are in REM sleep (which is deep, quality sleep) for around 25% of the time. Dogs only engage in REM sleep for around 10% of the time which might account for why they need far more sleep than we do. Research has shown - like us - that during the first few nights in a new place that dogs sleep poorly. They do not show any active sleep (implying they don't dream) and additionally, they will have nearly double the number of sleep cycles during the first night (around 43). During the two subsequent nights they also have more sleep-wake cycles although this decreases on average over three nights and seems to level out on night three. See more

14.01.2022 Simple & inexpensive dog treats. People share their recipes and tips on the Pyramid Dog Treats Facebook group. Perfect if your dog has allergies, a sensitive digestive system or you want to know exactly what they are consuming. The trays I use are available through ebay, search 'Non-stick Silicone Pan Baking Mat'. There are many shapes and sizes available, measure your baking trays (to place the silicone mat on) before purchasing. ... Recipe used in the group training classes: 425g tin tuna in springwater (including the springwater) 2 eggs 2/3 cup plain flour Blend, spread onto trays and bake. This blend fills 3 trays.

11.01.2022 Keep your dog feeling safe. This is not to be confused with your dog being safe, or whether you think your dog is safe. This is about keeping your dog ‘feeling’ safe. Which means identifying what your dog finds stressful or scary by learning how to observe and read their body language to recognize when, where, and under what circumstances they feel uncomfortable, and doing whatever you can to avoid those situations. There are many places I would like to take Gemma, I envisag...ed she and I would kayak together but she has other ideas, so I need to adjust mine. I have two choices I can actively and humanely work to increase her comfort and confidence over a long period of time, or I can find alternative activities she will easily enjoy. People like visiting cafes and restaurants with their dog, but some dogs cannot cope with the unexpected foot and paw traffic and remain at home. I am not a café person however Gemma genuinely enjoys cafes, seeking every opportunity for interaction and watching the world go by. People like the idea of dog parks, but it is sensory overload for many dogs and they cannot attend. Gemma and I will never visit a dog park, I prefer to control what she will and will not experience to ensure she feels safe and is safe. People like to walk their dogs, but many are walking their companions during quiet times of the day. Alternatively, take them for a drive to a new destination for a safe sensory walk. There are many activities our dogs love to engage in, we just need to find them and adjust our expectations to align with theirs. You are your dogs best and only advocate. You are what stands between them and the rest of the world. KEEP THEM SAFE
