25.01.2022 The silly season is upon us so our hours will be changing after this weekend. Bookings strongly advised over the school holiday period :-)
24.01.2022 We are still having problems with Facebook so I am unable to edit the menu on our page. Boo :-( So, here it is! All the delectable goodies shown on our menu will be available both dine-in and takeaway (yes, even the scones :-)... There will also be the odd dine-in special depending on the mood of the chef and the availability of ingredients :-)
24.01.2022 We are a Covid-Safe business which means we take extra steps to ensure the safety of both our staff and our customers. However, in order for this to be effective we need a little consideration and cooperation from you. Our furniture is arranged to comply with social distancing requirements so please don't rearrange it without asking.... Please don't sit at a table before we've had a chance to clear and sanitise it (if it still has someone else's dishes on it it's not safe!) Also, please leave your own dishes at the table. We know some people like to help out by bringing them in but its actually better for us if you don't. Please remember to stay at least 1.5m from other groups. This includes your children so please keep them with you and teach them how to be covid-safe. If you'd like a specific table or to be in a certain area of the cafe, please book and book early. We are operating at reduced capacity both indoors and out so the 'best spots' go very quickly :-) We'd like for everyone to have a very happy and safe holiday season which will only be possible if we all play it covid-safe.
21.01.2022 Here it is folks... our new 'Summer' menu. We will also have specials from time to time depending on what's available and how Chef is feeling. ;-) We reopen on Friday at 10am. Bookings highly recommended.
21.01.2022 We will be open 9am to 5pm Anzac Day (Sunday 25th). Bookings strongly recommended.
21.01.2022 Morning Possums! Just a gentle reminder that Covid-19 rules are still in place and will be for a very long time. We've all seen what's happened in Victoria (and other places around the world) so its really not too much to ask people to be considerate of others and follow some basics:... Practise good hygiene Maintain 1.5m physical distancing Stay home and arrange to get tested if feeling unwell. Also, each business in Tassie has their own individual Covid-19 safety plan so please read and obey any signage and don't just assume it is business as usual. Our little State is very beautiful but also very vulnerable both socially and economically if the beastie were to take hold here. So, by all means support your favourite local cafes, stores and tourist attractions but please do it safely and with consideration of others, otherwise your favourite local cafe, store or tourist attraction may not still be there when this is all over.
19.01.2022 Sorry for the lack of updates folks, we've been having a few issues with Facebook and Pages Manager and swearing at it didn't help ;-) Good news is that the government have today decided to bring forward the next phase of easing of restrictions to this Friday. Bad news is that you will still need to wait a little longer for your Possum Shed fix.... Unfortunately our reopening will be delayed as Chef has just had minor knee surgery and needs a little time to recover (plus a clearance from the surgeon). So, if all goes well, our hopeful reopening date is Friday 19th June. Our initial opening hours will be 10am to 4pm Thursday to Sunday. Bookings will be essential for lunch as we will still have limited capacity to enable appropriate social distancing. Menu details will be released shortly before we reopen. See you all soon !
18.01.2022 No long to go! We will be back on Friday at 10am. Due to the COVID-19 trading rules we will only be able to fit 16 diners indoors so bookings highly recommended for lunch.... We've also had to sacrifice one of the tables on the deck but the good news is we now have some nice cosy heating out there :) Please assist us by following all physical distancing guidelines. Some things will be a little different but rest assured our team will still be working hard to provide you with the great Possum Shed experience we are known for.
17.01.2022 We can't get out there at the moment, but our friends at National Parks have posted some lovely reminders of the beauty of Autumn in the Tasmanian bush. What Autumn delights are appearing in your backyard?
17.01.2022 ** UPDATE ** Due to the government direction to 'STAY AT HOME', we will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Given our location, we feel this is the best option both for the safety and well-being of our team and the longer term viability of our business.... Please stay safe everyone, look after those around you and support local businesses when you can safely do so. We will be back on deck as soon as we safely can. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Possum Shed Friends, With everything shutting down around us due to Covid-19, and the rules around trading constantly changing, we have regretfully decided to temporarily close The Possum Shed. This is as much for our own mental health as for the physical well-being of our staff and ourselves. We will be taking a break for the next couple of weeks to see how things unfold and will use the time to perform a little maintenance on the cafe and ourselves and spend some quality time at home with the (fur)kids. If circumstances and supplies allow, we will attempt to reopen for takeaways in time for the Easter Holidays. We want to thank our staff for their hard work and resilience during this difficult time. We would also like to thank those of you who have continued to support us. Over the years we have survived bushfires, floods, the GFC, more bushfires and with a bit of luck we'll also survive this. Please everyone take good care of yourselves and those around you and we hope to see you all again soon. Regards, Sharon and Monika
16.01.2022 Under new government regulations, it is now mandatory for all dine-in patrons to check in on arrival using the Check In Tas App. You can download it for free from your Google or Apple App store. To check in, open the App and scan the QR code on the check in poster.... If you don't have a suitable phone, you can be checked in by another member of your group or we can check you in using our tablet. To avoid congestion inside the cafe we would ask that people with their own device please check in before entry using the poster on the front door. Handy Hint: if you are travelling with family or friends, you can add them in on the App before you arrive so check in will be quick and easy. Open the App, select the menu at the top left, select 'Frequent Guests' and use the '+' button to add in the other members of your party. When you check in, simply select the guests who are with you at the time and you can all be checked in together in one go. Easy Peasy :-)
15.01.2022 We had a lovely first weekend back and want to thank everyone who came out to support us. It was great to see so many familiar faces. We would also like to thank all those people who did the right thing and abided by the new physical distancing measures we've had to put in place. We will be back at 10am on Thursday (10am to 4pm Thu to Sun).... Given the forecast weather and our limited space, bookings are strongly recommended. While our garden is very pretty, its not the best place to be on a cold wet day :-)
15.01.2022 We will be back soon! While the rules allow us to reopen for limited seated dining from next Monday, we will be taking a little time to ensure that we comply fully with all the new regulations and recommendations to keep both ourselves and our customers safe. It certainly is not going to be business as usual going forward.... At this stage we expect to be reopening in early June with a new dine-in menu and an expanded takeaway range. Looking forward to seeing you all soonish (just not all at once :-) )
15.01.2022 The team at The Possum Shed would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy and Healthy New Year. We will be having the day off on Christmas Day but will be back at 10am on Boxing Day for your recovery coffee fix.
13.01.2022 Tasmania is moving towards an easing of border restrictions on October 26. With this in mind, now is the best time to check in with yourself and others in your ...household that you’re doing all that you can to stay ‘COVID-safe.’ Practise COVID-safe behaviours such as regular hand washing and sanitising, physical distancing, staying at home when sick, covering coughs and sneezes and getting tested when symptoms are present. Every measure we take now will help us keep on top of COVID. This will be important when the movement of people in and out of our state increases. Remember, you can stay up to date with the latest COVID-19 info via this website: www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au
13.01.2022 Hi All, Just a heads up that we will be taking a break after the school holidays due to a family commitment on the big island to the North. We will be closed from Monday 12th October, reopening Friday 13th November at the latest. (If border restrictions ease we may be open a little sooner as I am travelling to a 'safe' region).... When we do reopen it will be with a new 'Summer' menu and trading hours. We will keep you posted.
11.01.2022 While restrictions may have eased in Tassie please remember that the 1.5m physical distancing rule still applies. This means we still have limited capacity indoors and strongly advise booking for lunch if you don't wish to be left out in the cold. We are also unable to accomodate large groups unless they book well in advance (and are happy to split across tables).... This is especially important with the school holidays upon us. We don't like having to turn people away - or being glared at when we do!
09.01.2022 Yes, that's right! We will be back on Friday with a new menu and (slightly) extended trading hours. From Friday 13th November our new hours will be... Thu - Fri: 10am to 4pm Sat - Sun: 9am to 5pm Mon - Wed: By arrangement only We will adjust these hours as the season progresses. New menu will be posted soon so watch this space...
08.01.2022 There’s something quite magical about the Derwent Valley in Autumn the gardens and trees put on a spectacular colour show, the days are still clear, with a li...ngering glow at twilight. So come, take in the beauty of our region while things are a little quieter, stiller and simpler. Have you got some recent autumn captures to share with us? 06.01.2022 Its only two weeks to Mothers Day! Don't make Mum have to cook her own lunch. Book a table now to avoid disappointment. Please remember we are still operating at reduced capacity due to Covid trading rules so we are filling up fast.
05.01.2022 Hi All. We have just found out that MT Field Visitor Centre and cafe will be CLOSED from tomorrow. The National Park itself is still open.... We will still be open tomorrow and will review the situation after that, however please be aware that due to the new rules for cafes we will have very limited indoor seating available. We will do our best to cater for travellers who have been caught out by this decision (we certainly had no warning) but please understand that most people will need to sit outside or order takeaways. BYO jacket and blankie :-)
05.01.2022 Just a heads up folks. We will be taking a couple of days off in May to head off to Agfest.
04.01.2022 Dear Possums We regret to advise that our crystal ball is broken and, due to their complete failure to predict the dogs breakfast that is 2020, 'Crystal Balls R Us' have closed down in embarrassment. Therefore we are unable to predict when you will be turning up with your kids, cousins and Aunty Betty from Burnie wanting a nice cosy indoor table for lunch and may not have one ready and waiting for you.... We humbly suggest that you do things the old fashioned way and call us on 62881364 to reserve a table, unless of course you are happy to sit out in the cold using your latte to keep your hands warm while Aunty Betty glares at you disapprovingly over her bifocals!
03.01.2022 Take a short drive from Mount Field National Park and you'll hit the settlement of Tyenna. A signposted turn off just outside the township takes you to the Mar...riotts Falls walking track located beside the Tyenna River. Follow the river overflowing with trout, brush shoulders with the tallest flowering trees on earth and stand close to the falls that some say holds the secrets to eternal youth. We’re not so sure about that last bit, but what we do know is the 4.6km return hike should take approximately 2.5hrs to complete and is generally in good condition. Like most hikes in Tasmania, expect muddy patches, some fallen trees over the path, which you will need to negotiate, and take extra care around the waterfall. If you're heading out on Saturday we recommend you swing by the Banjo's New Norfolk Market between 8 am to 2 pm on the way or grab a takeaway coffee at The Possum Shed Cafe in nearby Westerway. If you book ahead you may be lucky enough to score a table for lunch by the Tyenna River on Thurs+ Fri + Sat + Sun (10 am to 4pm). You're not going to want to rush home and suggest booking a night or two at Hamlet Downs Country Accommodation or Giants' Table and Cottages. Thank you to @wildislandwomen (IG) for sharing her recent adventure in #DerwentValleyTasmania with us.
01.01.2022 Just a brief note to all our valued customers during these uncertain times. At this stage we intend to keep trading as long as it is safe to do so. We will, however, be making some changes to the way we do things in order to protect our staff and customers.... Unfortunately for the immediate future we will no longer be accepting reusable coffee cups as they are a potential source of contamination. We will also no longer be providing shared newspapers for customers to read. Also, we will be carrying out enhanced cleaning procedures which include sanitisation of tables and chair backs between groups, plus regular sanitisation of door handles and other frequently contacted surfaces. This will inevitably slow things down a little, but we feel it is a necessary step in order to protect our staff and our customers. We ask for your patience and understanding. Be good to each other, look after your friends, family and neighbours and support your local small businesses when you can. Cheers The Possum Shed Team
