25.01.2022 BREATH :: The mind and the breath are like two fish in one school. When one moves, the other moves. If your mind races, your breath begins to race. If your breath deepens and slows, the mind deepens and slows. The breath is our guide, it is a gauge for how we are travelling - in movement and in life.... Fluidity, being in flow, is the aim for movement - moving consistently, with little break, during an entire class, during specific combinations, or for that burst of "work" during HIITraining. This builds endurance, strength, focus, coordination, and overall improved performance. Holding our breath decreases the oxygen levels within our brain, circulatory system and muscles, decreasing mental and physical performance. Disconnecting with the breath usually means we've lost focus and our presence is no longer in the right here and now. We have become distracted. Consciously harnessing our breath for our betterment is a skill that we develop through movement to then translate it into life. How often do you hold your breath during the day? When was the last time you took a full, deep breath? As humans, most of us only utilise approximately 20% of our respiratory capacity. That means the air intermittently reaches the bottom of the lobes of our lungs, which is where gas exchange occurs between the lungs and our circulatory system. Here, stale air tends to get "stuck" in the bottom of the lungs, creating a perfect moist, warm breeding ground for viruses and bacteria. All of this means we are not utilising our bodies adequately to perform at our best mentally and physically - decreased oxygen levels, increased carbon dioxide levels, decreased performance. Therefore, not only is conscious breathing important for focus and being present, but also for general optimal performance of our bodies. So, next time you hear your movement teachers talking about breathing, there is a reason. There is an even greater connection between the breath and abdominal connection. However, that's for another post Maybe try focusing on your breath a little more during movement and life. What do you notice?

25.01.2022 WHAT DAY IS IT?? :: Happy Christmas Everyone! Hopefully it has been a wonderful few days connecting with loved ones, cherishing new memories made. The extra indulgence of food and beverages is okay - remember that. It is about being present, connecting deeply, and enjoying each moment. The extra socialising is amazing, especially in a year of serious social and connection deprivation. Keep in mind though, it can also be depleting.... So, just like the cutie in this photo, take those naps, try to set some earlier bed times and / or sleep ins. Not only does socialising need more energy, we are also all pretty worn out from the year that was. Thus, be kind to yourself and take those moments of introversion to refill your cup so you can continue being present and appreciative of the celebrations with those you adore. Hydrate well with water, not just alcohol, get the sleep you require, and remember to keep moving your body, however that may look for you - family cricket, water skiing, mini circuit training at home, walks, even your favourite classes for the studios that remain open. Enjoy this time simply being, don't worry about what day it is

24.01.2022 TACTILE CUEING :: As movement professionals, tactile cueing is something we love to adopt. Research tells us that hands on guidance is one of the most effective ways clients learn. It is also a beautiful way to connect with clients, building our long term relationships. Within this worldly climate, most studios removed tactile cueing, then reintroduced it, and we are now limiting our hands on teaching once again to do our part in considering everyone's health and well-being. ...Please ALWAYS feel empowered to speak to your movement teacher about what you are and are not comfortable with, not only during these unusual times. You ALWAYS have the right to say if you would like hands on contact or not - in your movement classes and in life. Speak your truth. Stay safe. Virtual hugs to all Mental Health Aware Yoga The Body Method

23.01.2022 R U OK :: How often does that statement get asked? All the time! How common is the intention to truly listen and hold space when asking the question? Not very. Or how common is it for the responder to be honest about how they are actually feeling? Again, not very. Are you okay is the beginning of a discussion, not a throw away statement. If you do ask the question, it is important to be prepared for whatever the answer may be. Therefore, only ask if you are willing to follow... the suggestions and resources that www.ruokday.org.au have provided - ask, listen, encourage action, check in. If someone does ask you the question, be courageous in answering authentically. That may mean asking to talk about it at a later date. You are not a burden. You are not being a 'negative nancy'. You are allowed to experience feelings. Struggles do not discriminate. Be brave in sharing your struggles to alleviate your own burden and be guided to assistance if required. It is okay to not be okay. With this day being shared with World Suicide Prevention Day, it reiterates the importance of these three little words. Checking in with one another, holding space for whatever feelings are being felt, listening without needing to fix or provide answers, and guiding to professional assistance if required is more crucial than ever. We have begun to destigmatise mental health. However, we have a long way to go. These campaigns are fantastic. Just remember that once the day has passed, it is essential the message is carried forward throughout each day of our lives. People are feeling alone, unsafe, helpless, even suffocated by the darkness. It is okay to feel this way. However, it means we need to hold each other up, helping each other breathe, connecting deeply, and feeling united as one. The more connected we are, the more likely our global mental wellness will flourish, even during times of adversity. So check in on your loved ones, your work colleagues, the person you see on your walk / movement session each day / week, on your trip to school or work, the barista you see for your coffee. Connect. That is how we will save lives. The Lower Case Label

23.01.2022 HOPE :: "However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope." ~ Stephen W Hawking A profound statement from an inspirational human who did not allow limitations to disrupt his conviction to contribute to this world. We all have this capacity. It is about knowing thy self, believing in the skills we have to impact and connect in this world.... Some have this innate knowing, others need to dedicate energy to rediscover and remember who they truly are and what their purpose is in this life. Work on you. Believe in you. Know you. Do you. Even in the face of adversity. Even during the challenges of life. Whilst there is life to be lived, there is always hope

23.01.2022 ADDICTION :: Complex. Multifaceted. Multilayered. There is a spectrum of addiction. What we want to bring to light is the fact many of us walk around thinking we are in control. ... In reality, most of us are leaning into "vices" weekly, daily, hourly, to fill that void within ourselves with anything other than compassion, kindness, acceptance and love. These vices keep us from having to look at ourselves, on a deep level, accepting all of our parts, especially those darker parts we do not like to admit we have, and, definitely, do not want to discuss. Some vices are seen as acceptable, some are not, and all have the capacity to be detrimental. Why? Because it comes back to the intention - these things are being used as an escape; an escape from life, from reality, from emotions, from oneself. Yoga teaches us to sit with ourselves. It teaches us that to be human is to have these less desirable qualities and "stuff". Thus, to accept those parts by filling oneself with compassion, acceptance and love, we will be able to find peace and show up with greater integrity and grace. Again, there is a spectrum of addiction. What we challenge you to reflect upon is what you may be leaning into a little too often for "relief" from life, emotions, yourself. Once awareness occurs, change can occur. Seek a trusted Health Professional if you are experiencing darkness, addiction, any mental dis-ease. This is not something you are required to process alone. As humans, we are not innately provided skills to navigate our psychology. Seek experts to build your skill arsenal to better navigate this life. You are worthy. You are loved.

22.01.2022 SHORT SPINE :: Always love a good short spine sequence Add in the ring, and it's a fun time! Short spine is about hamstring and abdominal strength, spinal mobility, and a little bit of courage. It is a little frightening to get upside down. However, inversions have numerous benefits. Such as:... Increasing circulation by reversing blood flow; Improving mobility (strength and flexibility) throughout the body as the whole body is involved to successfully perform the movement; Improving digestion by readjusting the internal organs to stimulate more effective functioning; Enhancing the lymphatic system, improving fluid distribution throughout the body, which, in turn, helps the body fight infection, inflammation, and metabolic conditions; Relieving stress and anxiety by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest state) as the feet are above the heart; and Reducing fatigue as when the heart is above the head, more oxygenated blood flows to the brain, creating clarity and alertness. Legs is Straps is always a favourite for clients. Shoulder stands simply take it to the next level

21.01.2022 DAD'S DAY :: The role and bond between father and child is something to cherish and nurture. It is unexplainable. It is special. It deserves acknowledgement. We celebrate the fathers and father figures in our lives, including those who are no longer with us, their impact is forever imprinted in our hearts. We acknowledge those who, for whatever reason, cannot be with their loved one/s today. We send love to the dad's who do not have their children with them, especially those ...who do not get to watch their children grow, evolving their bond. Many emotions may arise during days like this. We ask for compassion and space to be given to everyone to feel the feels today. However this day sits for you in your life, be sure to fill your soul with goodness. Now more than ever presence and awareness within each moment is essential to find peace and love, remembering the importance of connection and the simple things in life. Sending love, light and peace to all

19.01.2022 BARRE ABS :: It is always a relief when clients get to the floor portion of Barre classes - not that it necessarily means a break *insert evil giggle* Capitalising on original Mat Pilates Methodology, utilising props, including the Barre, movements are intensified, providing more bang for your buck! How are your movement sessions going? Are you being consistent? Or are you finding it is more in spits and spats?... Whether you're currently still able to attend sessions at your favourite studio or doing your best at home during lockdown, hopefully you're still making time to move your body, releasing feel good hormones, and releasing some of the understandable anxious energy in your body and mind. We understand motivation and morale is seemingly low - lot's of stressors, lot's of fear, we are in the middle of winter (Seasonal Affective Disorder exists!) Try to remember, ten minutes of moving your body is better than nothing - even if it is pumping your favourite song and dancing around your living room! Virtual hugs to all!

19.01.2022 RETREAT :: Jayde returns to another Soulshine Au retreat this Saturday 22nd May in Port Elliot to guide two yoga practices. Jayde feels honoured to be able to share these teachings and philosophies with so many, including the beautiful souls on this upcoming retreat. Movement truly is an effective facilitator for healing and connection.... Tahlia is holding further retreats in July and October this year. If you'd love to experience the Soulshine magic, be sure to check out the offerings and secure your place! www.soulshineaustralia.com Psst... Jayde is joining the July retreat too

18.01.2022 SERVE :: Our human condition is ultimately wired to serve. By creating a greater capacity to give, we open the pathway to contribute more effectively and positively to our life and the lives of others. Thus, fulfilling this deep value and need to serve in this world.... What do you do daily to refill your cup to create the capacity to give and serve? How do you serve yourself and others? What do you hope to contribute to this world? Are you doing it? If not, what can you do to make it happen and live more in alignment with your deepest values and objectives? Taking the time to understand oneself, heal, grow, and contribute truly is a wonderful way of living authentically and with fulfilment. It enables peace, happiness and gratitude even in the most challenging of times. Deep conversations are some of our favourite parts about connecting with people through movement. Maybe facilitate some deep conversations about our human condition with some of your community. Ultimately, that connection helps us on this path of service

16.01.2022 VYANA VAYU :: Distributes prana in an outward, circular, pulsating motion from the heart and lungs. It is involved in cardiac activity, circulation and the somatic (voluntary) nervous system. It governs the movement of prana through the nadis / energy pathways, keeping them open, clear, clean and with balanced functioning. Vyana expands and strengthens our aura, allowing for differentiation of beings, which grants each of us our separate sphere of activity, enabling us to ser...ve in our most ideal manner. It aids in protecting one's own boundaries to limit absorption or subtraction of prana, and assists with the flow of life. If imbalanced in vyana, boundaries may not be clear, life may not have flow, extremities may feel cold, one may even experience peripheral neuropathy or decreased coordination, or cardiac abnormalities in regards to heart and circulatory system function. In a vyana vayu asana practice, postures that encourage lateral flexion of spine are utilised alongside the development of inhalation and inhale retentions (Antara Kumbhaka), drawing in life force for distribution and expansion. The kriya is centred around the heart, leading to meditation either within the heart centre or third eye. A very warming, expansive, energising and empowering practice. In this Sun practice, we must remember to always carry the Moon to keep us calm, stable and grounded even as we begin to warm, create vitality and sensitise ourselves to prana

16.01.2022 TEA MOMENTS :: Anyone who knows Jayde is aware of her "little" obsession with tea. Tea is not simply a hot drink to consume. It is a ritual: selecting the kind of tea, boiling the kettle at the specific temperature suitable for the chosen type of tea,... getting out the pot and cup, brewing the tea for the ideal amount of time, sitting in a favourite spot, pouring the tea, and, finally, consuming the tea. Yoga teaches us that every moment of our lives has beauty, has prana, is an opportunity for connection and presence - every act has the capacity to be a ritual. What rituals do you embrace each day? Are there moments you're rushing through without presence and awareness? Maybe set yourself the intention to create more rituals, connection and presence during every day, seemingly insignificant moments as we, in the Southern Hemisphere, move into Winter - the most yin, inward turning, time of the year

16.01.2022 MOVEMENT MOMENT :: Midback or Arms in Straps on the Reformer is a genuine classic for targeting abdominals, arms and between the shoulder blades Here Jayde is also utilising the chi ball for an added instability challenge for abdominals, placing the pelvis in a posterior tilt, lengthening and creating space within the lumbar spine (lower back), which not only feels lovely but also increases the lower abdominal focus of the movement. Coordination of upper and lower limbs is ...great for the brain, whilst layering movements builds strength and endurance. Maintaining that waist band of tights/pants drawing in toward the body, hugging and cinching inwards, sucking a jellybean into the belly button, especially as the legs lower within one's personal range of motion, will make the movement super effective. We always love a good tremble through the midsection - "chase the tremor" May you get your movement moments in for your Monday each week

14.01.2022 ROTATION :: Moving within all planes of movement is incredibly important to build a body prepared for every day life. One plane of motion we love to encourage is rotation, either alone or, more functionally, whilst performing foundational movements (ie lunge or squat). Why?... Simply put, rotation is something we do all the time, every single day. Think about grocery shopping. Think about the dishes, cooking, cleaning, laundry, playing with or picking up children and animals, driving (if you properly check your blind spot ), getting out of bed - almost every daily task has an element of rotation. As teachers, adding rotation to any movement instantly increases the difficulty level and asks your body and mind to adapt to meet the demands, which makes us happy too If you are performing rotation in your movement sessions, think about maintaining the position of the pelvis - flashlights on the hip bones remaining still. This will assist in improving the depth and quality of the rotation from below the rib cage, the lower thoracic spine. Think, spinning top, think, waistline, it asks the obliques to get involved. And who doesn't love a strong, tight, cinched waist! Hopefully you get to throw some rotation into your movement session today, and as often as possible, to ensure you're training your body and mind to be able to move through life that bit better

14.01.2022 INCLUSIVITY :: Something that should be innate, yet, it is not. Inclusivity is one of the foundations Powerhouse Movement is built upon. Jayde is extremely passionate about making movement accessible and available to all, ensuring every being embraces their unique experience and feels empowered whilst moving their body.... Jayde believes in creating a safe space for everyone to be who they are, in all the glory and messiness that we are, no matter ones background, experiences, physical presence, current circumstances or lifestyle. Jayde strongly believes the language used by teachers and by others throughout the movement community influences the energy and feel of spaces. The power of words can be underestimated. Words can either build people up and make anything possible, or they can tear people down, reinforcing limiting beliefs and stories. We, therefore, encourage you to choose to move in spaces with a community of people where you feel safe and see people from all walks of life feeling included and accepted. It will elevate your unique experience, and it will strengthen connection to Self, and everyone and everything in life. Connection to all is what changes our lives, and changes the world Elements Yoga Studio

13.01.2022 SOULSHINE #2 :: Another nourishing Soulshine Au retreat yesterday with some truly beautiful and powerful souls. Autumn turned on the goods, blessing us with warmth, sunshine and high vibing prana! Jayde is loving these opportunities to guide yoga on these transformative retreats. It is a true honour ... Jayde guided an uplifting Pran Vayu practice in the morning followed by a grounding spine and hip yin practice as the sun set. The power of movement, of prana, of these teachings and philosophies continues to prove itself time and time again. Thank you Tahlia and the incredible women for connecting with Jayde Bring on Soulshine #3 in July! For details about Soulshine AU retreats visit www.soulshineaustralia.com

13.01.2022 MOON SUN FIRE :: The Moon steadies and calms the mind, whilst the Sun brings vitality and sensitises us to prana (energetic life force). Finally, the Fire burns through any limitations, calling upon sacred Kundalini to ignite our consciousness, empowering us to live as our highest selves. The Practice in Bali teaches Moon Sun Fire Yoga. Jayde is extremely thankful to learn from the beautiful team at The Practice, being handed down the scientific teachings of Traditional Tantr...ic Hatha Yoga. No matter where one is on their Yoga journey, one must always carry the moon. These moon practices focus on forward folds and twists, and developing the exhalation, stimulating apana and samana vayus (energy pathways, nadis). This induces focus, groundedness and the ability to retain what we need and let go of what does not serve us, both physiologically and energetically (mentally). It also assimilates all of the vayus, creating balance, stillness and awareness of consciousness. Ultimately, it prepares the practitioner to be able to withstand the confrontation of one's human and less divine qualities and emotions, not only during the challenges of practice as it moves into Sun and Fire, but during the inevitable challenges that arise in life. Powerful yoga practices can only be beneficial if one has mastered tranquillity, stillness and stability of the mind. Jayde looks forward to sharing more of these philosophies and practices as she begins to explore and apply the knowledge and skills gained during her training earlier this year. Now more than ever we need to prioritise mastering our minds to collectively heal and grow wholistically to create significant and lasting change and harmony within our world

13.01.2022 BELIEF SYSTEMS :: The reality is that the thoughts in our heads are put there by someone else, whilst what we feel in our hearts is put there by our soul. During those first seven years of our lives, we absorb, learn and mimic from all of those we are exposed to the most. This is imprinting, building our belief systems, ideologies and self concept. As we develop into adulthood, we need to be aware of what we assume, as these assumptions and beliefs will harden into "facts", m...aking it difficult to evolve and change. Through awareness, self analysis and regular conscious practices, we are able to begin listening to our hearts rather than our heads, shifting our internal dialogues, opening our minds, and unlearning belief systems that are not aligned with our souls. Our souls know our truth - authenticity. The mind is influenced by ego - a constant need to conform and not 'rock the boat'. The greatest indicator of whether we're living heart lead and aligned is by the quality of our relationships and quality of our spiritual, emotional, physical and financial health. Take the time to reflect upon these areas of your life, and question, with open curiosity, are my belief systems my own? What does my heart say?

13.01.2022 INSIGHTS :: Part of soul growth is education and opening ones mind, challenging our beliefs and thought patterns. This then suggests that soul growth is within our power. We have the power to accumulate knowledge and continually challenge our way of living. In this age that we are living, knowledge and awareness is quite literally at our finger tips. One great medium is the evolution of podcasts. What are some of your favourite podcasts for learning (and unlearning)?... We would love to hear your recommendations! Jayde recommends Insights by Joe Pane. Joe delivers truth bombs and years of research and experience in a very accessible manner. This podcast is about redefining success, guiding our journey from ambition to meaning. And as you know, Jayde is very passionate about connection and contribution, travelling our dharmic (souls) path. Sunday's are great for refilling the cup. A walk (if weather permits) or enjoying your morning pot of tea or cup of coffee listening to a soul inspiring and educational podcast is a wonderful way to kick start a day of soul fuelling goodness

08.01.2022 SIMPLE PLEASURES :: Some of Jayde's favourite simple, slow down pleasurable moments include savouring a matcha rice milk or coconut milk latte, and / or spending time with animals (even strangers pets or talking to birds in the park - yes, she is a little odd ...) What are some of your simple pleasures which help you slow down, calm down and "smell the roses"? It is during these moments we create awareness of presence and consciousness. A lightness and joy flows through ...us, and we are simply being. See if you can get a few more of these moments throughout your week, even multiple moments every single day

08.01.2022 COOL :: "To me, cool means living for more than the next moment. Cool doesn't mean having the latest Dior, knowing people, being on the list, and sitting at Lucien. Cool means you are your authentic self. Cool means you walk the walk. Cool means being a good fucking person. Cool means that when you are alone, you can stand to be with yourself. Cool means listening when others speak; cool means holding doors open and smiling. Cool is compassion, understanding, love, and boundaries. Cool is being good" ~ @sageaflocka

04.01.2022 RELATIONSHIP PILLARS :: In any relationship - Self, romantic, familial, platonic, professional - there are three pillars that need to be met and held for a fulfilling and everlasting connection. Trust Build and maintain trust within Self and between beings;... Commitment Commit to oneself and the connection between beings; Respect Respect oneself, all beings, and the connection between beings. If even one of these is not being upheld, the relationship feels unstable, unsafe, and a source of discomfort. This does not mean the relationship necessarily needs to end. However, there needs to be a willingness from all parties to address what is lacking. All relationships require effort and effective communication. None of us are equipped with the innate ability to communicate effectively, especially regarding conflict and misunderstandings. Thus, to educate oneself to be better at this, it will cultivate healthier, happier, more fulfilling and longer lasting connections. ~ How do you communicate? ~ Are there relationships within your life that lack either trust, commitment and / or respect? Reflection and being brutally honest with oneself are the only ways through. Only then can change occur. You are innately worthy of positive connections. Invest energy in being better with these interactions, then mindfully choose others who are willing to meet you at a similar level.

03.01.2022 CLARITY :: This year has provided a time for less productivity and has been more about meeting our fundamental needs. It has been a sacred reprioritisation, a sacred pause for humanity. It has come with discomfort and pain, yet pain is a reflective opportunity, if we make it so. The more we continue to look outward for answers and distractions, the further away from our authentic selves we become. And the further away from our authentic selves we are, the greater the sufferin...g we experience. One of the most important aspects of being alive is understanding "who am I?" This sacred pause has thrown us into this question head first, without warning. And maybe that is exactly what we all needed to make significant and lasting change. Diving within oneself to answer this question, resisting external validation and distraction, sitting with acceptance and surrender, ascends our consciousness towards globalism, inclusivity and oneness. We now have no choice but to accept this. Pausing several moments daily, meditating daily, is essential in honouring this path, especially as normalcy ensues. We are not able to take a wise view of our lives and the world until time is taken to process. We must process before action can be taken. And action must be taken to ensure inclusivity and oneness occurs. So honour this path, honour the question "who am I?", and find that pause today, and everyday to simply be and connect internally
