04.01.2022 The Powerhouse Museum wishes all Muslim communities a blessed Eid al-Fitr. Today, Muslim communities all over the world will celebrate Eid al-Fitr, a joyous holiday for Muslims worldwide at the end of Ramadan. The small amulet (telesm) pictured is one of the few objects in the Powerhouse collection that originates from the pastoral nomads and small communities of south-west Persia (Iran). As a rare collectable object, it is made of Persian green jade (yashm-e sabz) probably b...y a tribal artisan in 1930s Persia (Iran). The amulet's shape follows the general design of Persian tribal necklaces. Engraved on the surface is the Shia Muslim text of Nad-e Ali, commonly used for health protection. The remarkable physical condition of this amulet indicates that it was never used and was probably sold to a collector in an urban market in the city of Isfahan or Shiraz.
