20.01.2022 Azzopardi Racing Race report Atura 15th May 2021 One week after the Nitro Thunder meeting we were back at it again with the Atura track championship.... The Atura rounds have quickly become my favourite meetings by far. I made sure I had a fresh motor for Outrun which was installed only days before after some last minute machining from Darren at Rams Head Service to get me there. The weather started out perfect for racing and we had an early start, so to get through racing before the dew set in later that night. Our first Qualifier was at 9.08am. I was paired up with my lovely wife Deanne. Without team orders, it was all on. We take the line, the lights flash, Outrun powers down the racetrack and stops the clocks with a PB and Australian first time of 6.75sec at 217mph. Deanne also finished with a PB mph run for Baby Silver. Not sure where else in the world you could run those times that early in the morning! Testament to the track workers at Sydney drag way. 2nd Qualifier at 11.00am. Once again Deanne and myself lineup. Bragging rights for reaction time was the private challenge. We take the line, stage, lights flash. Sorry Dee but Outrun gets the reaction and the win with a 6.81 and 214mph. The heavens open up and racing is paused for a few hours before the track is dried and readied for Eliminations. We lose a qualifier due to the rain. 1st elimation against Deanne due to a small field. It is now 4.41pm. We take the line, lights flash Sorry Dee. Outrun flies down the track and runs another 6.81 at 212mph. Its 5.46pm as we line up for the 2nd Elimination run. Due to the All run format and a small field we sometimes end up running the same racers more than once. This was the case today and Deanne and Baby Silver once again line up next to the mighty Outrun We line up, lights flash and Deanne schools me on the tree 0.155sec to a sleeping and almost comatose 0.327sec reaction time from me.. Outrun wasn’t happy and made sure it got to the end first with a 6.77sec at 216mph run. We get the win by a bumper, but lose the reaction time race. Nice work Dee! The 3rd round and final is against Brad Mannix. We take the line, the time is 6.50pm. The lights Flash, Brad has a slight reaction time advantage but Outrun makes it up by the 60’ timer and gets in front. I have been concentrating on hitting the shift points but I still balls up 3 to 4 shift and hit the limiter. The rest of the run was pretty smooth and uneventful..or so I thought. Brad runs through for a PB 7.24sec 198mph pass. Brandon came down to pick me up and asks me what I thought i had run? I thought, ok must have been a little better than a 6.75. I replied with a shrug he then tells me it was a... 6.68 sec at 217.91mph (350.69kph) I was completely overwhelmed, and thought he was having me on! Today is the best day of my drag racing career. To see something you’ve built with your own two hands, setup and tune, run world class numbers really make it all worthwhile! 19.01.2022 We agree, the fees banks charge are taking money from our business. may not be much per transaction but multiplied by 100's of transactions it adds up. We would appreciate your help to stop the banks taking our money if you are in the position to pay cash. A cashless world is not a good thing.
