Two reasons; Under-employment is still at a high - remember you only have to work 1 hour per week to be considered employed!!!, and, The slow down in construction sector has a long, long lead time. So it is the concern that new projects are not being commenced that is still the biggest risk to un and under employment. 16.01.2022 Great article about what goes into CPI and why the data does not make sense to most people. The goods and services that are high on the needs list for most Australians - and impossible to avoid - are rising above inflation. Meanwhile the items you don't buy everyday (computers, cars, holidays, clothes, etc) have experienced deflation (relative to the CPI). And the result of low inflation, low wage growth.... Unfortunately relying a CPI basket of goods to assess inflation and thereby set wages is a bit like running a country via a democracy. 05.01.2022 Comprehensive credit reporting (CCR) system, commonplace in the US and UK, will become mandatory from 1 July next year. Until now Australia has only held default (negative) data, whereas CCR mean the banks must send both positive and negative data about a customer to credit bureaus. CCR, on top of the fact 1 in 2 loans are being written by mortgage brokers, is shifting the power away from the Big 4 and back to consumers, whilst letting the smaller banks (formerly building societies) back into the Australian mortgage market - long way to go but more choice is better for everyone.
