24.01.2022 Tuesday thoughts - first impressions count! If you are handing your resume to a recruitment company or dropping it off to businesses to consider, remember to dress well, make eye contact and be polite. People remember the little details!
23.01.2022 Wednesday words - In your cover letter, tell the recruiter why you are applying, especially if you appear ‘overqualified’. There are many reasons why people apply for jobs but if you don’t explain it, then you may not be considered not all recruitment processes in all companies are fair!
21.01.2022 This is very disturbing. I hope this decision is reconsidered. From a recruiters perspective, this is a classic example of how examining the social media backgrounds of applicants can be useful. From an applicants perspective, this is why it is important to always monitor what is showing in your social media profiles. Keep it professional!
18.01.2022 Friday feels - Take a portfolio of examples to your next job interview. Use the job ad or description as a reference to find pieces of work that are relevant, such as projects you have successfully completed or plans you have written. (Remember to remove anything commercially sensitive)
17.01.2022 Even though it is a much tougher environment for job seekers than pre COVID-19, there are still jobs to be had. If you are fortunate enough to be getting to the job interview stage, here is an article I contributed to with answers to frequently asked interview questions, which may be helpful. Good luck!
12.01.2022 Friday feels - on your resume only include information for about the last 10 years of your working history unless there are specific parts of your career you need to highlight. Any more than that and the resume is too long and the work experience is too old to be useful. If you are trying to show a history of work in the same profession or industry, add a line in your cover letter to show this
11.01.2022 Monday musings - unless you are about 22 or younger, don't include any information on your resume about where you went to school or subjects you took. It isn't relevant to employers

05.01.2022 When you are searching for a job, it is important to keep your 'personal brand' up to date as you never know when and what employers are looking at. How do you do that? - clean up your FB and Instagram profiles... - make sure you have up to date referees AND they know that you are using them on your applications - if you are creative make sure you have an up to date and accessible portfolio online - create a Linked In profile to have that professional look - keep abreast of relevant industry information in the job fields you are searching - keep your skills up to date or acquire new skills What do you think? Are there other ways that you are keeping your personal brand updated?
04.01.2022 There are so many people now competing for the same jobs. Is it now time for YOU to stand out from the crowd and create a professional brand for yourself? How do you create your personal brand to sell to employers to differentiate yourself from others and position yourself as the best person for the job?... Over the next week, I'll be sharing some ideas on how to create a personal brand for yourself and then providing some ideas on creating your best job application tools.

03.01.2022 Stand out from the crowd and create a professional brand for yourself What makes you, you? How do you create your personal brand to sell to employers to differentiate yourself from others and position yourself as the best person for the job?... What skills do you have that make you valuable to any employer? Take some time to reflect on you and what skills and attributes you have to offer. These might be particular skills relevant to the industry you are job searching in or they may be skills that are called transferable skills those that can be used in any job such as good listening skills, customer service skills, conflict resolution skills, problem solving skills etc. Sometimes it can be difficult to highlight what these skills are so ask other people what they think your best skills are. You might be pleasantly surprised at the variety and number of skills you have. When you have this list of skills and talents you need to then be able to convey this to employers in your resume and cover letter. We’ll look at these in my next posts.
