18.01.2022 Day three of NAIDOC Week and we acknowledge INSTITUTIONAL INTEGRITY: Reconciliation is actively supported by the nation’s political, business and community structures. Determination and effort at all levels of government and in all sections of the community will be essential to make reconciliation a reality. Final report of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation to the Prime Minister and Commonwealth Parliament, December 2000. #naidoc2020 #prahranhighschool

17.01.2022 Team 2021 Introductions Continue! We are thrilled to introduce Mrs Dimitra Charalambous to our community and welcome her to Prahran High School. Currently at Melbourne High School and before that at Bentleigh SC for many years, Dimitra is a passionate, experienced and proven high-level teacher of Science and Mathematics. We are excited to begin our work together and welcome Dimitra to PHS.... Hi Prahran High School, I began teaching 'wearing' a three syllable name - Siolis. I married a mouthful of syllables - Charalambous! This has served as a perpetual ice breaker throughout my career. I have loved my teaching journey at two great Victorian State schools. I am excited to now join Prahran HS as a passionate Maths/ Science teacher. I am proud to be part of my students’ life as they grow and achieve success. I look forward to meeting you all soon. I enjoy cooking and feeding people. (I'm of Greek heritage! What can I say?) I aim to perfect my repertoire with traditional recipes and new flavours. I hope to do the same with my role at Prahran HS!

14.01.2022 For NAIDOC week we looked at how artists throughout the 19th century depicted the arrival of the First Fleet and how inaccurate these depictions are. Inspired by the First Nations artist Gordon Bennett, we appropriated these Eurocentric artworks considering how they could be told from a First Nations perspective. Our students thought really deeply about this and reflected their thinking in these wonderful artworks. #prahranhighschool #naidoc2020 #art #creativity #firstnations #gratitude @ Prahran High School

13.01.2022 Tonight we continued the transition journey for our Year 7 students for 2021. It was fantastic to see so many families with us. We are excited to welcome you all, actually to our school soon. Xavier welcomes you to our school too. Year 7s, 2021 - WELCOME!

13.01.2022 How wonderful are these tape installations by our Year 8 students! They worked through the art process, learning skills in perspective, getting inspired by artists such as Pae White, Bridget Riley, Kiebande and George Wark, and then developing ideas. These site specific artworks will have to come down soon but we have lots of photos to remember them by! #prahranhighschool #artinstallation #creativity #design #art #makeanimpact @ Prahran High School

12.01.2022 Prahran High School Theatre presents... The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are turned on their heads in this fast-paced, rollicking ride as two narrators and several actors attempt to combine all 209 stories ranging from classics like Snow White, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel to more bizarre, obscure stories like The Devil's Grandmother and The Girl Without Hands. Starring a cast of 30 talented year 7 and 8 students this production will have you laughing in the aisles.... The production has been designed by 20 of our creative year 7 and 8 students who are running all aspects of the show: set design, sound and lighting design and costume, hair and make-up design. Tickets are one sale now. https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=765290& #prahranhighschool #schoolproduction #performingarts #thearts #brothersgrimm

05.01.2022 In Science our Year 8 students are learning about body systems, how they are interconnected and why things sometimes go wrong. Last week they finally got to do their first dissection of a heart. They’ve been looking forward to this since day 1 and they did a superb, precise and mature job! #prahranhighschool #scientists #ethics #learning #biology #challenge #curiosity @ Prahran High School

05.01.2022 Team 2021 Introductions Continue. We're delighted to introduce our new Business Manager, Natalie Smolarek, to the PHS community. Natalie brings significant business, accounting and school experience to this role. She is also a great human who will contribute much to our positive culture. Welcome, Natalie.... Hello PHS, My name is Natalie Smolarek and I'm excited to be joining you as Business Manager. I am a mother of two teenagers and owner of both a dog and cat. I enjoy keeping fit with HIIT classes, running and walking. The most amazing and challenging hike I've experienced was Mt Gower on Lord Howe Island. It's here that's this photo is taken with my best friend (I"m on the left). I'm amazed I made it! I am a Francophile and look forward to seeing and hearing the French program at PHS. This year, to help me survive Iso, I began learning the ukulele. I take requests! I have already heard that some of the other staff play too... Another hobby is supporting the brilliant Melbourne live music scene. I sincerely look forward to meeting everyone and supporting the inspiring vision of PHS.

04.01.2022 As we round out the week, we recognize the imperative around historical acceptance as the fifth dimension of #reconciliation HISTORICAL ACCEPTANCE: All Australians understand and accept the wrongs of the past and the impact of these wrongs. Australia makes amends for the wrongs of the past and ensures that these wrongs are never repeated. Something must be done about the denial of the real history of this country. At the same time, we must support each other to accept our own history, the history of pain and distress that so often holds us victim. It is only in accepting it that we can make choices to deal with it and move on from it. Professor Marcia Langton, Aboriginal academic and activist. #naidocweek #naidoc2020 #prahranhighschool #gratitude #firstnations #respect

04.01.2022 Have you started thinking about your school holiday reading!? Next week the PHS book clubbers are going to put together a display of their recommended summer reads - and any books borrowed from next week onwards are yours for the holidays. The books get lonely on the shelves over Christmas, so feel free to take as many as you like! #prahranhighschool #libraries #reading #bestlibrarianever

03.01.2022 Building great State schools like Prahran High School is a win for everyone! Our students are thriving, the local community is strong and engaged, families have the school they want and need for their children. And, check this out. The flow-on economic benefits like this real estate price measure show us further the power and importance of a flourishing, successful local school. https://www.domain.com.au//the-new-melbourne-school-zone/

02.01.2022 The Library Leadership Committee is ready to match you with a mystery Sci Fi book! #blinddatewithabook #liw2021

01.01.2022 The fourth key dimension of Reconciliation is Unity. Today as we continue our thinking about #naidoc2020 we reflect on the importance of UNITY: all of Australian society values and recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and heritage as part of a shared national identity. Here in Australia we’re fortunate enough to have one of the richest and oldest continuing cultures in the world. This is something we should all be proud of and celebrate. Dr Tom Calma AO, Reconciliation Australia Co-Chair. #prahranhighschool #unity #reconciliation @ Prahran High School
