25.01.2022 Dogs need fibre too

25.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why human Dr's tell you to eat less processed foods and more healthy foods yet many Vets are telling you to do the complete opposite? Whe...n your Vet is at University, kibble companies such as Royal Canin and Hills Science Diet pay the University a sponsorship fee or similar in order to access Vet students to provide "education", offer programs, brand ambassador jobs, free product, goodie bags etc. By the time your Vet makes it to their first day as a qualified Vet, they have been conditioned to think kibble is the only thing a dog should eat. Some Vets challenge this and do post grad education in nutrition and do not promote kibble to their clients, these are usually called Holistic or Integrative Vets. Are you ready to kick the kibble? https://www.facebook.com/groups/rawandfresh

14.01.2022 Progress of a lick granuloma. Likely cause is muscular skeletal pain and possible nerve impingement. This has been a long road to pin point the source of the pa...in and effectively treat that as well as working on the granuloma itself. This dog has had a cone on to help him avoid licking the spot and multiple treatments of laser therapy, acupuncture and chiro. He has also had thorough checks with his veterinarian. Treatment is ongoing at this stage but showing promise now! See more

08.01.2022 What if your vet was wrong? Cushing’s disease is common in dogs. But it is also commonly over-diagnosed. It’s an endocrine disorder commonly found in middle-a...ged or older dogs. And is the result of the overproduction of cortisone by the adrenal glands. Cushing’s results from three possible situations ... #1 - Your dog has a microscopic benign tumor of the pituitary gland. This tumor overproduces ACTH. That stimulates the adrenal glands to produce too much cortisone. About 85% of Cushing’s cases in dogs are due to a pituitary tumor. #2 Cushing’s disease is caused by a tumor in the adrenal gland that’s busy secreting too much cortisol. This is the case in about 15% of dogs. #3 This third scenario occurs when a veterinarian prescribes excessive steroids as a medication. With NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), the incidence of this is waning. HERE’S THE THING When it comes to Cushing’s disease in dogs, there are two problems: Tests that determine if your dog has Cushing’s disease are expensive and can be unreliable. One commonly used drug to treat Cushing’s, Lysodren, will destroy your dog’s adrenal glands. This adds to the problem created by an incorrect diagnosis. And dogs are being diagnosed with this disease WITHOUT any of the main symptoms. These symptoms include ... Not drinking a lot or urinating a lot Doesn’t have a sagging, bloated, pot-bellied appearance No excessive panting He’s not extra hungry or stealing food He hasn’t gained weight He’s not weak on his hind legs He hasn’t lost muscle mass His coat is beautiful and thick with no thinning of his fur He has no areas of pigmented skin He never gets an infection So why is this happening? 07.01.2022 Tis the season Canine flu and kennel cough season that is. When it comes to viral diseases like this prevention is key. And healthy foods are a great way to... keep your dog’s immune system firing on all cylinders. Mushrooms are a must-have for infections. They’re immunostimulating, antibacterial and anitviral. Which together can boost your dog's immune system and protect him from getting sick. When you think of where mushrooms live, it’s usually not the most glamorous environment. But that ability to thrive in harsh places helps them build natural defenses. These defenses are passed onto your dog when he eats them. Mushrooms are also packed with vitamins and minerals. And they’re full of potent antioxidants that Protect immune cells from damage Optimize the immune system Reduce disease-causing inflammation All of these things help strengthen your dog’s immune system. But a word of caution some mushrooms are toxic to dogs. So it’s important to make sure you only use safe medicinal mushrooms. 07.01.2022 Help get jack home

07.01.2022 ***EDIT*** We had no idea this post would reach so many people. Had we known, we would have provided a much more thorough explanation. A few updates: - At-home ...grooming is dangerous for ALL dog breeds, not just doodles. We are a doodle rescue and we were speaking to our followers. - Do not use scissors, clippers, or anything sharp on your dogs. This incident was due to scissors, and it's something we see far too often, hence our original caption. - We work daily with families who seek to surrender and have worked very closely with Ellie’s family to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Hurtful comments will not undo what happened and only deter families from seeking rescue help in the future. We are NOT excusing the actions of the family, but the focus of this post is to educate. PLEASE leave grooming to the PROFESSIONALS! We are a small volunteer-run, donation-funded doodle rescue on a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome poodle mixes in need. We appreciate all of the support and hope Ellie Mae's story will help bring awareness and prevent this horrific situation from ever happening again! Meet Ellie Mae our newest foster pup who suffered extensive injures after an at-home groom went TERRIBLY wrong. Before we go further, we wanted to share that her family was considering rehoming PRIOR to this accident (we know many will inquire about keeping Ellie with her family). Additionally, we ask you to please refrain from negative comments. Ellie Mae's family acknowledges their mistake and they feel horribly about her injuries. What's important is Ellie's health and educating the community so this doesn't happen again. Ellie Mae is a 2.5-year-old Goldendoodle who suffered severe injuries when her family attempted to cut her painful mats with scissors. Ellie Mae's Achilles tendon was fully lacerated in two places and her family rushed her to the ER where they attempted to repair both lacerations. Ellie Mae's family contacted us and we took her in without hesitation and rushed her to our Veterinarian for evaluation. It was confirmed that the previous repair surgery was unsuccessful and that she had developed a severe infection which required hydrotherapy and oral antibiotics. Due to the severity and location of both lacerations, the failed attempt to repair, and the severe infection, our vet decided that amputating her leg was the best decision. She was hospitalized for a few days, had a successful amputation surgery, and is now safe and sound in her loving foster home. Ellie Mae's amputation is another tough expense after all of the extensive medical cases we've had the past few months. We continue to say yes because their lives are worth it. PSA NEVER USE SCISSORS on your doodles, especially if your pup's fur is matted to the skin. Matting is not only extremely painful and can result in skin sores, infections, etc., but it's also very difficult to cut properly and must be handled by a professional. If you are interested in the doodle breed, PLEASE do your research and ensure you are fully prepared for frequent brushing and frequent (and costly) professional grooming. If you have any questions, feel free to PM us. This could have been prevented, and we want to make sure no other pup has to go through this. : DoodleRockRescue.org : PayPal.me/DoodleRockRescue : @DoodleRockRescue

02.01.2022 FOUND: this sweet little girl was wandering around our street (Heeterra Crt Elanora) She has no collar or microchip and has been taken to 19th Ave Vet. Neighbou...rs don’t know who she belongs to and we haven’t seen her around before. Does anyone know who’s she could be? I think the vet will take her to the pound once they close at 12pm. See more
