25.01.2022 More interactive educational workshops on waste and plastics coming up!!! Over the last few months we have been very lucky to work in collaboration with April from Matrix Sustainability Consultants to deliver the Before The Bin workshop. Before The Bin workshop is designed to help you look at waste through a different lens.. During this 2 hours workshop we discuss how we define waste, who ‘owns’ waste, where waste goes, we look at some product life cycles and we discuss how..., together, we can move towards a more sustainable and circular future. We have received amazing feedback from participants to this interactive workshop... so we are teaming up again to bring you more workshops. The next one will be talking about PLASTICS: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly! In this workshop we will talk about the history of plastic and how it was initially invented for good.. we will look at our consumption of single use plastics and the challenges we face in recycling plastic and managing plastic waste, and here again we will discuss how we can move towards a more sustainable and circular future. BUT we wont stop here.. We are so lucky to have April’s talent in the team and she has agreed to help us design a full suite of workshops. Here are some of our ideas, please let us know which you think should come next! - Hidden Plastics - Introduction to Circular Economy - Fast fashion and textile waste crisis (and the role of plastic) - School Workshop for Year 5/6: plastic waste reduction #wastemanagement; #community; #wasteeducation; #plasticpollution

22.01.2022 Yeah!!!! We are so excited to receive our first lots of plant labels to recycle!!! 26kg of labels that would otherwise go straight to landfill as these are too small to be picked up by the optical sorters at MRFs... A great effort from our community!!! THANK YOU!!! Now... what should we turn them into...? Due to the size and capacity of our equipment it can only be fairly small products.. so far our earrings and necklaces have been a great success..
21.01.2022 Hello PPP Enthusiasts!! Last week we went to visit the team at Claw Environmental in Welshpool. I would like to give them a big recognition as this company has done an incredible work for well over a decade in the field of plastic recycling in WA and more specifically specialised in Polystyrene foam recycling. It was such a motivating experience to meet with Claw environmental and chat about the plastic recycling industry in Australia.. I cant even remember the numbers; but believe me when I tell you that thanks to these guys thousands of tonnes of Polystyrene and other plastic materials have been diverted from landfill since Claw Environmental was established in Perth! Cheers Guys! PS: Please note that they are in the process of redoing their website.. so stay tuned.. we will share it once its up and pretty in the next few months!
20.01.2022 Less that a week to go... We are very excited that we will present our project to the community in Lancelin next Monday!! Please come along to this free event! Photo taken at the Lancelin Community Resource Center (CRC).

We absolutely love the initiative and we hope that Precious Plastic Perth will soon be part of this platform. It is a community platform to help facilitate the diversion of materials from landfill and is there to support makers and community groups. They are only at teh "pre-start up" phase but please support this great initiative and start thinking about how you could use this platform!!

12.01.2022 LIDS COLLECTION UPDATE!!! Public drop off points remain closed for the time being... Many of you have been eager to see our public drop off points re-open for collection and recycling of plastic lids!!!! We have received HUGE VOLUMES of plastic lids!! And we would like to thank you all so much for your support and participation in this project over the last year... Regrettably, our public drop off points will remain closed for the time being. We have no doubts that we will be... able to re-open our public collection points in the very near future. Precious Plastic Perth concentrated their effort in collecting plastic bottle tops as these are currently not recycled through the yellow top bin collection. Plastic lids are too small to get recycled via our WA Material Recovery Facilities and have to be disposed of in the landfill bin. We have been absolutely overwhelmed with the success of this initiative and we now have more lids that we can process for the time being Now that we have been sponsored a great workspace thanks to Armstrong Energy, we will concentrate our effort in sorting, processing and recycling these lids into new products, following the circular economy principles. (Clean and sorted lids can be delivered to our Precious Plastic Perth facilities, unfortunately we currently dont have the manpower to sort large volumes from our public drop off points.) Of course, your effort and support will NOT go to waste as we are finalizing design for a line of furniture made from 100% recycled bottle lids, and we cant wait to share more about this initiative very soon. But to do so, we will require additional equipment.. and therefore funding to purchase and/or build some of this equipment.. For the next few weeks, Precious Plastic Perth will focus its energy into seeking financial support through either grants application, sponsorship, and/or crowdfunding for purchasing of additional recycling equipment. Finally, we also would like to remind our supporters and community that Precious Plastic Perth continues working on plastic waste education, and we will be starting a series of educational workshop on plastic waste avoidance and waste management in the next few weeks.. So please stay tuned for coming workshop dates and venues. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We wish to thank you all again your ongoing support. Precious Plastic Perth.
12.01.2022 Found this on the internet today and really like it.. to a reminder that reduce your single use plastic consumption can be fairly easy with resources you already have at home.. Remember that the most environmentally friendly products are the ones you didnt buy!! Accept the challenge to do Plastic Free July .. its not too late.. #lessplastic; #zerowaste; #reduceplasticwaste
11.01.2022 We made it to the Lancelin News..:-) haha.. THANK YOU so much to our awesome volunteers there.. Our Public collection points are currently closed due to Covid-19; but looking forward to start again when this is all over and safe to do so.. #stayhome; #staysafe
09.01.2022 REMINDER: IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!!!! LIDS ONLY!!!! To all our supporters and plastic collectors, THANK YOU !!!! We can not thank you enough for your support in raising awareness about plastic waste management and plastic pollution and for your effort in collecting plastic so it will not end up in landfill. We have been overwhelmed with the messages of support we have received, the conversations our social media presence has generated, the interest shown in our recycled plastic pr...oducts and the enthusiasm of all people who came to chat with us at different events. However, we must admit we have also been overwhelmed with the volume of plastic we have received and the logistical effort required to process these large volumes. With our primary objective and mission statement being: Through education and engagement, we will create behavioural changes and help our community to reduce, reuse and recycle their plastic consumption., we feel that our charity organization should concentrate its effort and volunteered resources on getting our community hub operational and delivering hands on workshops throughout our local communities..to ensure that together we will create a change and reduce plastic pollution. This is an exciting time as we move to further develop this incredible initiative with you.. so we would like to ask you to collect plastic bottle lids only for the time being. By altering our drop off points to be for plastic bottle lids only, we will continue to raise awareness about plastic waste management and plastic pollution and we will still prevent a huge amount of plastic going to landfill. By collecting plastic lids only, our organization can increase the number of collections points and keep the logistical effort manageable for the time being. Plastic bottle lids are also a great example of plastic that will need your action as they are not being recycled at all otherwise. Plastic lids are too small to be picked up by optical sorters at our recycling centers and should NOT be disposed of in the yellow bin. Please note that this is only a temporarily decision and we will be more than happy to collect other types of plastics once we have grown our capacity and support network. Once again we would like to THANK YOU so much for your support with this initiative and helping it grow to its full potential. A cleaner and plastic free environment starts with you! Best Regards Precious Plastic Perth
08.01.2022 Plant labels are like bottle lids... too small to be recycled in your yellow bin so we are proud to partner up with LabelDrop to find a solution to recycle these!!!;-) #recycling#community#plantlabels#cleanerplanet

08.01.2022 April and I had such a great time last Thursday delivering our "Before The Bin" workshop to very enthusiastic and engaged participants at the Spacecubed facilities. We shared thoughts and ideas about how we define waste. We did some activities together about product life cycles and process/systems thinking. We explored the question of who really owns waste and waste risk. We talked about where our waste goes and how raising awareness about this could positively contribute to... a shift towards more circular consumption. April from Matrix Sustainability Consultants has partnered up with us to design a series of workshop on waste management, sustainability, plastic waste and more.. so please stay tuned for more dates. We look forward to meeting more of you at these workshops. #communityengagement; #wastemanagement; #plasticwastesolutions; #wasteeducation See more

07.01.2022 What a lovely day yesterday in Lancelin! Had a great time meeting with this amazing community eager to make some changes in the way we consume and dispose of our plastics, and trying their best to protect our environment... Did a short presentation of the project to a keen group which also included a few school kids who always have great questions!!! Our plastic lids drop off points still remain closed for the time being as we are seeking for funding support to get some equipment, but our local volunteers extraordinaire there have offered to sort some of the lids we had stored for a while... thank you Lancelincommunity, thank you Michelle Campbell and Dawn! Ps: if you are looking for a Christmas present idea, I have left a display of the jewelry made from 100% recycled plastic at the Lancelin Community Resource Center!!!

05.01.2022 Most our public drop off points are still closed for now, but we made an exception for Town of East Fremantle!!! We couldnt refuse a few bucket loads of lids and a photo opportunity :-) Please stay tuned as we are expecting to re-open our plastic lids drop off points in the next few weeks!!! We are also working hard on designing educational content and workshops and plenty more exciting news to come... This project is finally developing and we are excited to see where it will take us TOGETHER! Once again a big thank you to the residents of East Fremantle! Keep up the good work!
05.01.2022 And... a huge THANK YOU to one of our wonderful supporter for this project: Environment House / Perth Ecoshop & Sustainability Services!!! Home delivery of boxed and color sorted lids!!! Not sure how many but its MANY that will NOT END UP IN LANDFILL!!! Now.. to grow this project to its full potential we need more help and support.. ideally we are on the lookout for a workspace where we can operate, recycle, create and educate, engage our community and volunteers.. near Fremantle would be a dream come true.. but open to discussion and open to all support proposal you may have!!!
04.01.2022 https://video.fper6-1.fna.fbcdn.net//10000000_162013775082 "HOME MADE" in Fremantle by a very talented Precious Plastic enthusiast!!Thank you so much @Chris Stomp for sharing this video of the clock you made entirely with recycled plastic! Remarquable!!
04.01.2022 HELP!!!!! WE NEED A HOME!! well .. actually.. a workspace.. !! Dear Precious Plastic Perth Enthusiasts.. we have made GREAT progress since starting this project over a year ago.. - We have built an amazing community who has gained awareness of plastic waste management; - We have increased our network of plastic lids drop off points all around Perth Metro with local businesses; local Governments/councils; schools; daycare centers and more.. now diverting great amount of plast...ic lids from landfill. - We have attended great events to raise awareness and help our community to Reduce; Re-use their plastic waste before Recycle.. - We have created beautiful products made from 100% recycled plastics with the help of our volunteers. - We have designed and started building of our mini machines for recycling.. BUT what we do not have is a WORKSPACE. A space for community engagement, education; workshops, creativity and participation in recycling!! Without a Precious Plastic Perths Hub; this project will not survive...This a project FOR the community and we now need support to ensure that the community can indeed participate at all stages (Educate to Reduce plastic waste pollution; Collect; Recycle) . HERE IS WHAT WE NEED: A sponsored space of about 50-100m2 would be ideal.. with water, toilets, electricity (single phase is enough) and accessible to small groups of volunteers/workshops participants.Ideally south of the river.. but happy to discuss any options available.. so.. if you have (or know someone) who have an empty workspace/big garage/empty store/small warehouse... and is happy to sponsor a great cause.. please let us know!!! www.preciousplasticperth.com.au THANK YOU !!!!!

We talked about where our waste goes and how raising awareness about this could positively contribute to a slow but certain shift towards more circular consumption. and so much more.... We can't waste to see you there!!! #wastemanagement; #community; #communityengagement; #sustainableliving https://www.connectincanning.com.au//before-the-bin-worksh
04.01.2022 Thank you so much WMRC for your support!!! This adds up a new plastic bottles lids collection point for everybody living in Perth western metropolitan councils!!! Yeah!!!!
03.01.2022 July 2019 I went to visit a small factory in France (less than 10 employees) that recycle 1200 tonnes of plastic lids/year.. only lids... this company has been recycling for well over 20 years... they sell the recycled plastic to local manufacturers and participate to a more circular economy... all it takes is a handful of people with the right skills, a workspace and equipment... May 2020 be the year we start this in WA!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!! New year resolutions: Reduce, reuse and recycle... that would be a great start to it!!!
03.01.2022 In the lead up to PlasticFree July our NEW workshop is all about PLASTIC. In this workshop, we look at how we make plastic and why it was invented in the first place... and what properties and applications make it an extremely durable, versatile and useful material. We also discuss some of the challenges we face trying to recycle plastic, along with the other social and environmental impacts that have made plastic a controversial topic in recent years. Join us as we deliver a...n informative, engaging and interactive workshop which provides opportunities for attendees to really challenge ways of thinking about plastic use, packaging design and the concept of circular economy. This is a community engagement initiative brought to you by Precious Plastic Perth and Matrix Sustainability Consultants. We are very proud of the collaborative work done to design this workshop with April from Matrix Sustainability who brings incredible skillset in waste education and sustainability and with our team at Precious Plastic Perth which include professionals in the plastic recycling industry and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise about polymers and recycling challenges. If you think your community group or workplace will benefit from this workshop, please get in touch with us! #wasteeducation; #communityengagement; #plasticpollution; #plasticfree; #plasticwastemanagement

02.01.2022 Hello!!! WE ARE LOOKING FOR A COMMUNITY SEWING GROUP...any idea..??? Hi PPP enthusiasts!!! Of course we want our lids collection to be a zero waste process!!! For the logistics of the lids we want to Re-use our bin liners... unfortunately even the though ones are not strong enough... so we are considering our options and considered the idea of getting bin liners made from fabric..??? Or sewing them from strong soft plastic material... would you know of an organization that has industrial sewing machines??? Cheers!!!
01.01.2022 Hope you had a wonderful Christmas...thank you so much for everybody bringing us their plastic lids!!! Please remember that its easier for us if the foam ring has already been removed... and lids are clean... many thanks again!!! And keep collecting these so they are recycled!! Thank you!
01.01.2022 Over the past 6 yrs Precious Plastic has become a global movement of thousands of people applying their creative genius to solve the plastic waste problem. March 2020, Precious Plastic collaborated with Impacton and ran their first-ever Precious Plastic Global Impact Survey to gather data from the Precious Plastic community. We are so proud to be part of this global movement here in Perth as well; because like the rest of this army we want to make a difference!!! Each PP o...rganization/group have their own vision and mission. Here in Perth we want to create behavioural changes and help our community to reduce, re-use and recycle their plastic consumption, through education, engagement and participation! Since the Precious Plastic designs are all about opensource and freely available its very hard to know how many project are using these designs.. but here are some of the highlights in our opinion: - Over 50% of people working on Precious Plastic projects are under 30 years old, giving us great hope for a generational transformation. And a 1/3 are women.. (amongst many dusty, nerdy machine guys) which is very encouraging but still not enough. It should be at least 50% women!!!! - The average workspace requires an investment for equipment of less than $20000 AUD What this survey summary does not gives us is the impact on behavioral changes and our plastic consumption! Here in Perth we know that we will not solve the issue of plastic waste with our mini machines and Precious Plastic project, BUT what we want to achieve is BEHAVIORAL CHANGES and engagement and participation of our local community to create a future with less plastics and more circular economy! https://preciousplastic.com/impact #plasticrecycling; #preciousplastic; #wastemanagement; #wasteeducation See more
