12.01.2022 With the recent increase in break-ins around Bundy we thought we'd share a couple of tips that will help save you from the pain, cost, & inconvenience of someone stealing your valuables. Tip #1 LOCK YOUR HOUSE!!! The majority of people being broken into lately have been victims of opportunity rather than malicious crime. Thieves are simply are simply walking in through an open or unlocked door. Once inside wallets, handbags, and keys are an easy target. If the car keys are... easily accessible the car is gone in 60 seconds! Tip #2 LOCK YOUR SECURITY SCREENS!!! If you've invested in a quality security screen like ProwlerProof Forcefield or Crimsafe then locking your screen with the snub is a good start. If you have the budget type security screens with the diamond type mesh then a door shield is a worthy investment. (That's the plastic shield around the lock). For increased security, locks your security doors with a key and remove the key from the door! We've seen several recent break-ins where thieves have poked a hole in the insect mesh on the security screen & unlocked the door. This can't happen if the door is locked with a key. Tip #3 DON'T LEAVE KEYS LAYING AROUND INSIDE!!! If you do forget to lock up & someone comes inside then keys seem to be the first thing that gets swiped. If your lucky, you'll know they're gone & you can have the locks changed. If you don't know they're gone, chances are the thieves will be back when no one is home take all of your goodies. Tip #4 LOCK YOUR CAR!!! Did you know that it's actually against the law to leave your car unlocked? It's almost too tempting for a thief to walk past an unlocked car without taking something. Do you keep a spare house key or garage remote in the car? This thief is already on his way to your place..... Tip #5 NO SPARE KEYS OR GARAGE REMOTES IN THE CAR!!! Most care are actually pretty easy to break into even when locked properly & a set of keys or remote in clear view is an easy target. They'll swipe these & have access to your home. Tip #6 KEEP YOUR KEYS SAFE!!! It might be hard to break old habits but it's a good idea to keep your keys in a safe place at home. A small safe is a good investment for this & probably cost less than your insurance investment. Food for thought.... Tip #7 MAKE SURE YOUR LOCKS WORK!!! If you're not sure, consult a professional locksmith. We offer a free security appraisal & can give you some advice on how to best protest your family & possessions. Of course, these are very basic tips but in light of the types of jobs we've been going to lately it seems appropriate to put I out there. Security seems to be something that a lot of people only consider after the worst has already happened so please be vigilant with yours!
