Premium Turf's best advice for our local area at the moment is not a time for how long to water, but rather the following. Take a tin can, or rain gauge, place it under your sprinkler or irrigation system. Turn on your system and run for the time you usually water for. Measure the water caught in your can/gauge. We recommend during this extream heat, in the period of a week you should apply approximately 50mm of water. 12.01.2022 Preparation is Key More often than not, the way you prepare an area prior to laying new turf will be the difference between an excellent new lawn or the beginning of a never-ending cycle of fixing/treating/digging/filling/weed control. Here are some top tips to give your lawn the best new start at life: ... Spraying at least once (preferably up to 3 times) with roundup in the weeks prior to laying, to remove unwanted, weeds & grasses. If bringing in new topsoil or turf underlay, ensuring you are using a premium quality, "CLEAN" product is imperative. The biggest worry bringing new soil in, is what else are you bringing with it (nut grass?) Level the area, ensuring it is free from large rocks, diverts, roots, holes etc. It is a good idea to allow a settling period of new soil, (especially where irrigation trenches have been dug or stumps etc removed) this gives new soil the opportunity to sink and can then be refilled prior to turfing if need be. Premium Turf provide laying services, that include fertilising and rolling, however if you are laying yourself we highly recommend fertilising before laying and rolling to ensure a nice smooth even finish, pressing all those edges down.
