21.01.2022 THE WAY YOU NEED TO WRITE A RESUME HAS CHANGED. HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO A few months back, a comment was made on one of my articles expressing concern about computerised screening of candidates in the recruitment process. If you have applied for a number of positions and haven't received a call to discuss your experience in more detail, chances are you haven't used the correct wording in your resume. ...Continue reading

19.01.2022 STOP ASKING CANDIDATES WHY THEY WANT TO WORK FOR YOU: START ASKING YOURSELF THIS QUESTION I recently met with an extremely motivated Director who wanted to grow the sales team as fast as possible. The plan was to expand Australia wide. In assessing whether we would make good business partners, I asked my standard question, why would someone would want to work for your business? The answer I received was "we have a great culture and we have great training." ... Both were things employees look for in a company however we had a problem. The last 10 companies I had met with, were looking for the same staff and had the same answers! I wasn't sold which meant, the high performers I was working with regarding their next career move, wouldn't be excited either. I advised the Director, to get the current team together and find their point of difference in the market place. What you can learn from this meeting: Firstly, if you want good staff to become members of your team, you need a strong reason as to why they should join your business and it cannot be the same as what everyone else is offering. Here are some of the better answers I have received to this question: Sales specific recruitment: I am currently making 30 sales a year, my 3 year strategy is to take a step back from hands on sales and focus on growing the business, the person who joins my team will have the opportunity take on my current listings. We encourage a strong work life balance. Our business recognises that in a commission-driven environment this can be hard to achieve, this is why our licensee manages a Sales Representatives phone calls and their current listings whilst our reps are on leave. Property Management specific recruitment: We realise that all Property Managers have different level of abilities and different personal circumstances. We let our Property Managers each determine their own portfolio size. We remunerate a base salary that reflects the minimum of properties that they need to manage and then they are compensated per property that they manage on top of this amount. General recruitment: We have an Employee Assistance Program and support every person through the ups and downs. We fly our team to Bali each year for a team retreat. A good team culture is important to us. Once you have determined your 'why', use it in your advertising and your interview process. Ensure that is very clear to the person who accepts the role because after they join they will continue to tell others why they chose to work for you. 18.01.2022 YOU HAVE BEEN ASKED OUT FOR COFFEE BY A POTENTIAL EMPLOYER: READ THESE TIPS! If you have worked with me previously you may have been invited to sit down for a coffee instead of having a formal interview. Whilst I don't mind a caffeine kick to start my day, there is a reason I often take this approach and that is, I find it a good way to assess cultural fit. From my experience, a potential employee is generally more relaxed in this setting. ... A coffee is essentially a informal meeting. Don't assume it will be an easy conversation as it forms part of the selection process. Here are my top tips: Before Prepare the exact same way you would for a formal interview. Research the company by visiting their website, have a look at company announcements through search engines such as Google, visiting the Company page and interviewers LinkedIn page as well as the Company social media accounts. If applicable, we also encourage a site visit. When visiting the interviewers LinkedIn profile, take note of what they look like. Dress to impress. This is your opportunity to make a good first impression. On arrival: If you are meeting at the office, the walk from Reception to the coffee shop forms part of the interview. It generally involves small talk. Be sure to engage and ask questions. If you are meeting at a venue and you arrive first (which you should), chose a table away from the line at the counter and facing the door so you can greet the interviewer as they arrive. I would also encourage you to send a text, advising where you are sitting, your shirt colour and offering to order their coffee. Interview etiquette should remain, greet with a handshake and eye contact. Be courteous to the wait staff and others in the restaurant. Mannerisms will be noted. During: Keep focused. In a cafe it can be busy with a lot of distractions. Don't let your eyes follow the child running around or let the cricket on the television catch your eye. Keep your attention on the conversation. At the end: Offer to pay but don't fight the bill. If they insist, simply thank the interviewer. If you want to stand out, I would highly encourage an email once you get home thanking the interviewer and reconfirming your interest. Melissa Freeman 0438 460 603 www.pressrecruitment.com.au

17.01.2022 MEET OUR RESIDENTIAL REAL ESTATE RECRUITER: BESIANA Foodie. Workaholic. Adrenaline junkie Hi, my name is Besiana!... After years of being told that I would excel and love the real estate and property industry, in February 2013, I decided to find out for myself if my friends and colleagues were right. It is a decision that has changed my life and I have loved every moment being in the industry. I have worked for top producing Agents, strategised ways to bring more traffic to show homes and helped families find the perfect place to call home. I enjoy the thrill of coordinating the recruitment process, finding the perfect match for someones career and business goals. The process of watching someone I have placed in a business grow and evolve in the business gives me a high level of achievement and satisfaction. Originally from Canada, I have a love for exploring WA and taking advantage of the beautiful coastline. 15.01.2022 DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE!! . Studies have shown candidates prefer a structured interview over a casual conversation. One of the biggest mistakes that interviewers make is taking up an hour of a candidates time and not assessing their skill set correctly or explaining the company and role in enough detail. .... . Regardless of whether you invite someone for coffee or into a more formal setting for a conversation about an opportunity you need a interview guide. . . 14.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW THAT THE ABS RECOGNISED RECENTLY THAT THERE WAS AN IMBALANCE IN THE GENDER OF SENIOR STAFF, COMPRISING OF ONLY 21% WOMEN? Yesterday we had the pleasure of listening to Beth Shaw, President of UN Women Australia speak about gender equality in the workplace. It really got us thinking about the recruitment process and how we can ensure greater equality during the hiring process. Here are some strategies currently being used by companies in Australia:... A panel style interview with an equal amount of men and women. Remove bias by removing applicants name, gender, age and location from applications. Writing 'gender neutral' language in job advertisements. Would you use these strategies in your workplace?

13.01.2022 REAL ESTATE AGENTS: HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE NEW REGULATIONS COMING INTO EFFECT ON THE 2ND OF APRIL 2018? Although the economy shows sign of recovering, Sales Representatives will be under more pressure than ever to provide results. Last week, Real Estate Business released an article confirming the finalisation by Fair Work Comision of the new minimum wage laws coming into effect 2nd of April 2018.... It states that if a salesperson who is commission only is to make less than the minimum income threshold amount per year, then the employer is obliged to pay them a monthly salary equivalent to the minimum wage. The employer will also be responsible in assessing a commission only employee's remuneration every 12 months, to ensure that they have met the minimum requirements. If you are considering a future as a Sales Representative, ensure that you are working for a company who offers hands-on training and guidance. Besiana Bytyqi0417 887 388 www.pressrecruitment.com.au

10.01.2022 WHY YOU SHOULD CELEBRATE AN EMPLOYEE LEAVING. Have you heard of the saying people come into your life for a season, a reason or a lifetime? Why is it in so many organisations when someone hands in their resignation they are walked out the door before they can even say goodbye to their colleagues?... People resign for many reasons. Some of these reasons are because of poor management, workload and culture mismatch. However, other reasons may include relocation, career advancement, career change, retirement, to start their own business, to care for a dependent or travel. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that Baby Boomers changed jobs on average nearly 12 times between age 18 and 48. Here are 4 reasons why you should celebrate an employee leaving: 1. Culture A company culture is shaped through how someone exits the business when they resign. Employees develop personal relationships with each other during their term of employment. In many cases, people say that they spend more time with their work colleagues than their family. If the employee exiting the business is treated poorly, they are likely to share their frustrations with others and this can have a negative cultural impact on the remaining employees. 2. Future opportunities Remember the gatekeeper. It is likely that the employee leaving will remain within the industry and they could become immediately or later on in their career, a client or gate keeper to a business or career opportunity. 3. Avocation People trust family, friends and peers at the time of purchasing products or making a career move. Ex employees have a great marketing potential to help increase brand awareness and confidence of your organisation among their network within the industry. 4. Rehire opportunities Employees who have worked for the business have company knowledge; the company knows they have skills and they have likely improved these skills since they have left and many will still be a good cultural fit. They also cost less time and money to on board.

08.01.2022 8 TIPS TO ENSURE YOU ARE THE STRONGEST CANDIDATE WHEN FACED WITH A VIDEO INTERVIEW . With the available technology, we find that phone interviews or in many cases, video interviews, can be a effective way to drive the initial stages of an interview process. . Just this week, we interviewed two candidates for a position. One stood out from the other significantly.... Here are our top 8 tips to ensure you are the strongest candidate when faced with a video interview: . Test your technology well in advance. Ensure your internet connection is stable, your sound is working and the picture is clear. . . Ensure you have a professional Skype picture on show and that your username is also professional. . Dress to impress. Treat the interview as if you were interviewing face to face Ensure you are wearing business attire. . Body language is important. Make eye contact and smile. It can be difficult to create rapport via video, look into the camera. Do not look at the screen or the video of yourself. Adopt a posture that is relaxed with good posture. and avoid crossing your arms. . . Choose a plain background with good lighting. . Eliminate background noise. Ensure you set up in an environment with no distractions. It is important to stay present during the entire interview. . Stay professional. Whilst a video interview can appear to be more relaxed than a face to face structured interview it is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your effective communication skills, It is important to be well researched and prepared. . . Follow up with a thank you email reconfirming your interest in the opportunity. This is a great way to stand out from the others and also another way to demonstrate your written communication skills. . . #videointerviews #videointerviewing #skype #interviewtips #property #realestate #perth #construction #development #realestate #dreamjob #perthconstruction #perthdevelopment #perthrealestate #perthproperty

06.01.2022 WHO IS THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR YOUR BUSINESS? What happens when you find two candidates, who check every box and meet every requirement? How do you decide between the two? To assist with this difficult task below is a break down of steps to guide you in making the right decision.... 1. Complete a Job Brief Before you commence the recruitment process, it is essential that a job brief is completed. Secondly, ensure all decision-makers have agreed to the duties and responsibilities as well as the selection criteria for the successful applicant. A few important things to cover in the job brief would be: Position Title Reporting Manager Career progression Duties and Responsibilities Personality/Culture Fit Minimum experience required for this role Once the job brief has been agreed on, do not change it! 2. Think Long Term Who are you most likely to get the most longevity out of? Has the applicant in front of you had a history of job-hopping, or have they demonstrated stability in each company they have worked for? Are their career goals in line with the position and business direction? 3. Explore Initiative Does the applicant do any extracurricular activities? Are they a part of any groups? Do they dedicate their time to broadening their knowledge of the industry through studies? Are they truly passionate about what they do? 4. Ask for Personal Experience Does the applicant have any personal experience related to the position? Eg. If the applicant is working in Real Estate have they been through the home buying process themselves. 5. Use Testing Tools Use tools to help you decide. Psychometric testing/DISC profiling are two of the most commonly used in the industry to help determine if the applicant truly is the right candidate. DISC profiling is a behavior assessment tool which centers on four different behavioral traits: dominance, inducement, submission, and compliance. Psychometric testing is used to measure a range of skills such as numerical, verbal, abstract, logical reasoning, and personality traits. 6. Be Decisive Quality applicants are hard to come by and top candidates are off the market in just 10 days. If you feel that the applicant in front of you meets your initial job brief, make an offer! We recently guided a client through this process which resulted in securing a top performing candidate in the industry. If you are a hiring manager in the Property and Real Estate sector in Western Australia and would like to have top candidates sent to you, connect with me. 05.01.2022 DON'T LET YOUR BRIEFCASE BE THE REASON FOR YOUR INTERVIEW FAILURE! We recently interviewed a candidate who on paper met every requirement we needed. Good written communication, relevant experience and had used the systems we needed. The initial phone screen went well so we were quick to invite them to interview. Excited about the opportunity the candidate quickly accepted the meeting request. ... Below is the summary of our first impression and observation: 15 minutes late - no phone call Flustered Dripping in sweat Bad odour Briefcase was worn out and peeling Your first impression can convey your perceived character, values and skills as a possible employee in the workplace. You have a very small time frame to make a first impression - seven seconds! Here are a few tips to be remembered in the right way: 1. Be at reception 5 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. Plan your trip in advance and allow for any delays. Google Maps is great for predicting your estimated time of arrival. 2. Be nice to the Receptionist. An interviewer will often ask for their feedback. 3. Keep your deodorant handy. Avoid spraying cologne or perfume just before the interview. Often you are put in a small interview room and the smell can be overpowering for the interviewer. 4. If it is a hot day, dress appropriately so you don't overheat on the walk to the office. If you have sweaty palms, go to the bathroom just before the meeting, wash and thoroughly dry your hands or have a tissue close by to wipe your hands dry. 5. Dress smart from head to toe, this includes accessories. If you are going to bring a briefcase or a notebook ensure it is in good condition as this forms part of your presentation. 6. Ensure your clothes are pressed or ironed and avoid loud colours. A CareerBuilder survey found that blue topped the list of employer-approved colors to wear in an interview, followed closely by black, grey and brown. 7. Smile. 8. Shake hands and maintain eye contact. This is a universal signal of professionalism and confidence. Melissa Freeman 0438 460 603 www.pressrecruitment.com.au
