25.01.2022 Downlights These are some downlights I did during the week They’re a 9W tri-colour that seamlessly blend into the roof (unless you want to option them in black) that I think look terrific and modernise the space nicely. They also put out a terrific amount of light with a great spread pattern on it.... Not to mention they come with a 7 year parts and labour warranty to put your mind at ease These were put on the colour temperature Cool white which gives a nice white light that’s not too harsh but suits its surrounds well. 24.01.2022 Here’s a long winded post about an emergency callout from the other night. Got a call about some RCD’s that kept tripping. Opened up the board and found water pouring into it. After isolating the board to prevent any further damage and to make it safe, I managed to track down the leak to a crimp join in a water pipe in the roof space above the board that was coming through a penetration in the board that was never sealed correctly on install. This is bad (not to mention a ill...egal) as it doesn’t prevent the ingress of water or the spread of fire. (Check the comments for a video) Plumbers were called in and they fixed the damaged water pipe. During that time I went and grabbed 15 new NHP RCBO’s to replace the water damaged El’ Cheapo RCBO’s that were used previously. With the water leak fixed every minute of power being off was money lost for the business that occupied the premises.I hooked in and cleaned up all the water, cob webs and dirt out of the board and got to work tearing out the now water damaged RCBO’s. I smashed it out in a couple of hours and sealed up the holes that should have been sealed originally. With the board now being free of water, less of a spaghetti’d mess, fire and water tight and new quality RCBO’s in, we turned the power back on to the premises and they were able to go back to conducting business as normal. The moral of the story is do it once, do it right. The cheapest quote often isn’t the best. 22.01.2022 Today we changed over these old outdated dull recessed halogen globe lights over for some LED downlights to suit the holes left providing much needed light to this hallway, giving the house a more updated look and saving dollars on their energy bill. 20.01.2022 This one was a bit of a different job, I added a killowatt hour meter in the main switchboard for a granny flat. In doing so I seen that the main switch board didn’t have a main switch in it (used to isolate everything on the board), so to bring it up to regulation I added one in. I also added another circuit breaker in after the meter, so if something was to go wrong in the flat it wouldn’t destroy the meter too. I then re-labeled the load centre and tried to make it as cl...ear and neat as possible for the next bloke (easier said then done on older boards like this that weren’t given much love to begin with) I also gave it a good clean out to free it of all the spiders and insects that have been making it their home for the last 20odd years. The owner of the house will now be able to work out the difference in the electricity bill for the tenant in the main house and the tenant in the granny flat and charge accordingly. 19.01.2022 Some lights I changed over today: This old wall light on some stairs over that required halogen globes and never worked well over to a nice interior LED up down light, never requiring a change of globes and covering up all the holes left in the wall by previous sparky. Also changed over an old bank of interior spotlights that were half hanging down and not working over for a beautiful lucci pendant in oil rubbed bronze, with heritage LED globes which should look great in this... room once the marks left from previous light have been patched up. 15.01.2022 Went from a simple job of adding an extra switch in for an exhaust fan to changing the look completely. Started out as white slimline cheap junk and went to Hager Silhouette matte black.... These have to be seen in person to be appreciated, they’re millimeter thin and barley protrude from the surface of the wall, offering a nice contrast with the white tiles. The circle switch mechanisms add an extra touch of class in my opinion. These in matte black would be perfect for a feature wall, splash backs and bathrooms. 12.01.2022 Some pendants I did today in a kitchen as part of an entire house worth of lighting upgrades. All of the old 70mm halogen downlights were taken out and holes resized to suit new tri colour 90mm downlights (with cheeky class leading 7 year warranty). Also changed all the old halogen sensor lights to new LED ones and changed the old "glass" big catching oyster to an LED. Needless to say the difference in the house is now night and day.... 08.01.2022 Quick basic job from this afternoon, just changed over a set of switches for a tastic (light/fan/heat combo). These double switch mechs are notorious for failing, cracking and arcing as shown on the back of the mech. Not only was it unsafe but it was also unusable. I used Clipsal Iconic with the illustrated toggles to give a more modern look to suit the recently renovated bathroom. I also fixed how the bloke before me fixed it to the wall (which was just 1 screw).... These switch plates have changeable cover plates to suit the look you’re going for, from black with chrome surrounds, to white with real timber edging. Removed these old glass oyster lights with bayonet globes that had gotten full of water, dirt and rust with the recent storms, and replaced them with some Pierlite IP Rated Tri colour LED Oysters. 07.01.2022 Here’s one I did in my own place, I’m just renting this place so went with a cost effective solution to the absolute garbage lights that were up before that I’ve hated since I moved in as usual I forgot to take before photos. I used my favourite Pierlite oysters for the change out and ended up using 3 of the big dog 23W for the lounge, kitchen and dining, and added a 16w in for the little walkway between the kitchen and dining as it’s always dark. Safe to say there’s a lot ...more light now and it spreads out well instead of spotting so it’s not creating shadows everywhere.
