24.01.2022 Another new work to join the Overwintering Project Print Portfolio is Pippa Lightfoots magical image, Pelican Point. I find it so very thrilling and humbling... to receive such beautiful prints for the Project. Thank you so much to Pippa and all of you who have joined the #overwinteringproject to help raise awareness for our migratory shorebirds and their - often threatened - habitat. Pippa writes the following about her magical print: Pelican Point is on the Swan River close to the city and bordering the University of WA. There is something primordial about water and it unsettles the senses. The idea of water as a sacred element, synonymous with time and life itselfis a feeling that resonates with me. For most of my life I have lived within walking distance of the Swan River and it is a touchstonea constant source of renewal. It is a theme I constantly return to...a reminder of the power and fragility of the natural world. We take for granted the simple shoreline gifts and the pleasure of observing birdlife in all its quirky richness. Title : Refuge... Medium : Linocut with hand colouring, over screenprint 2020. 285gsm Arches BFK rives. Site : Pelican Point - Swan River, Perth WA.

I focused on lino-printing each morning, developing skills of registration and playing with colours. Late afternoon was time for exercise and long walks of discovery. Gallows Beach is at the Northern end of a long beach and it is always very wild and windy. I was inspired by the energy in the rock formations and the movement of the clouds. 01.01.2022 This is the most recent print I have received to join the Overwintering Project Print Portfolio. I was absolutely thrilled to have this beautiful linocut with c...hine colle arrive last Saturday! It is by Bridget Hillebrand, an artist whose work I have long admired. This week the Portfolio heads to Perth for the next Overwintering Project exhibition, the Overwintering Project: Summer on the Swan, at the Nyistor Gallery, 10-25 October. Once in Perth, many new works made by amazing WA artists will also join the Portfolio to be exhibited and then come back to me to be part of future exhibitions. Details of Bridgets print are: Artist: Bridget HIillebrand Title: Sharp-tailed Sandpiper Year: 2020 Medium: Linocut, chine-collé Site: Natimuk-Douglas Lakes, Wimmera, Victoria The summit of Mt Arapiles in the Wimmera provides spectacular views of many fresh and saltwater lakes that attract a large variety of migratory birds. During my frequent visits to the region I await the arrival of the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper which prefers the grassy edges of these shallow inland freshwater lakes. DM me for details of how to join this ongoing project to raise awareness and funds for our migratory shorebirds and their habitat. #overwinteringproject #overwinteringprojectprintportfolio #summerontheswan #pawa #printmakersassociationofwesternaustralia #nyistorgallery #migratoryshorebirds #migratoryshorebirdhabitat #printmaking #bridgethillebrand #environmentalart #shorebirds #shorebirdsofinstagram #sharptailedsandpiper
