25.01.2022 Tomorrow I'm going to run 21.1km. I've never ran that far in my life! Slightly freaking out. My goal was to raise $2000 for Prison Network. I haven't quite raised that much yet. I only need $222 to get there. Prison Network supports women towards change and restoration who are in Victorian Prisons. The benefits of which can be felt throughout the entire community. Doing something positive during this time of lock down has been such a blessing. If you'd like to help me reach my goal, the link is below. Thank you!
25.01.2022 A first for 2020. Our team met face to face with our new CEO, over a covid safe picnic. Was wonderful to gather on a beautiful day as we shared stories, news and looked ahead. We can’t wait to continue working together, alongside our volunteers and supporters, as we help women rebuild their lives during and beyond time in prison.
25.01.2022 Our CEO, Amelia Pickering, has a special message for every person who has donated to the work of Prison Network #givingtuesday2020
24.01.2022 We want to share with you an introduction from our new CEO, Amelia. It beautifully captures the WHY of Prison Network and the significant moment we are in as we look forward.
24.01.2022 This is Sam. Sam ran a marathon today in the incredible time of 4 hrs and 15 mins. All to raise money and awareness for Prison Network and the work they do to help restore women in Victoria's justice system. What an absolute massive effort. We can't thank you enough Sam. https://donate.everydayhero.com//85df1c57-8d2f-4148-810b-b
23.01.2022 GREAT NEWS! We are halfway to our target for the 48hr Neighbourhood Challenge. Already over $10k has been raised. We can't wait to meet our target knowing the impact it will have on the women and families we support. We'd love you to sign up and help us reach $20k. Simply commit to ride, walk, run or scoot around your neighbourhood during the weekend of 24-26th July. http://prisonnetwork.org.au/neighbourhood-challenge
22.01.2022 It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas! There's been a hive of pre Christmas activity. A number of supporters helped us handwrite 550 Christmas cards. We have picked up boxes and boxes of Ferrero Rochers from Foodbank Victoria. Our CEO, Amelia, put a shout out to her local Facebook group to see if anyone could help with our need for 60 mascaras. Within an hour Amelia had been flooded with offers of support, more than enough to cover our need. On Monday night our team of... volunteers will be packing 500 Christmas packages for every woman in prison in Victoria. Big thanks to Pinchapoo, Foodbank Victoria, St Mark's Camberwell, Peninsula City Church, and Planetshakers Church Australia and for helping us to fill packages with calendars, toiletries, chocolates and lots of love.
22.01.2022 ...'women in prison overwhelmingly came from disadvantaged backgrounds and had histories of poverty, domestic violence, social deprivation and childhood trauma. It’s really rare that imprisonment, experiences of violence, insecure housing, and those kinds of things happen alone. They often happen in tandem. And so what we’ve tried to do by putting out this report is to shed a light on just how many of these vulnerabilities these women experience.... Interesting article in The Guardian today on the growing number of women in prison.
19.01.2022 This year has undeniably shown us the importance of community, kindness and generosity. We are one week away from Giving Tuesday. We will be using the next 7 days to share the impact of giving, thank our volunteers and supporters, and on the 1st of December all donations made to Prison Network will be doubled thanks to a generous matcher. If you have any stories on how giving to others has impacted your life we'd love to hear them. To kick the week off we have put up a new blog post showing what we've been able to do for a family, thanks to those who give to the Fun with Mum program. http://prisonnetwork.org.au/keeping-kids-connected/

17.01.2022 87% of offending women are survivors of sexual or physical abuse. Thank you for offering hope, compassion and support to come alongside them on their journey of being restored.
14.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT: Whilst this is a challenging time, it is also an exciting one. Prison Network is entering into a new stage where we want to reach and support more women, both those in and who have been released from Victoria’s prisons. To that end, we have recently appointed a new CEO to Prison Network. Amelia Pickering takes on the role of CEO at Prison Network after decades of experience in the not for profit sector. Her previous work has had a strong focus on leading the de...sign and delivery of holistic frameworks that support long-term change, particularly for those who have suffered the effects of social disadvantage. Amelia Pickering joins us from Menzies School of Health Research, one of Australia’s leading health education and research training institutes, dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous Australians. With a Masters in Theology and further qualifications in Research and Social Impact, we are confident that Amelia will be central in taking Prison Network to a new level in supporting women rebuild their lives during and beyond their time in prison. We are grateful to Jane Frawley who took on the acting CEO role for the last two years and who will continue to volunteer with Prison Network going forward.
14.01.2022 UPDATE ON YOUR IMPACT The restrictions of COVID-19 continue to impact visits to women in prison. Through your support, Prison Network have been able to continue uniting children and their mothers through new initiatives.... The children’s craft pack is one initiative that has recently been rolled out at DPFC Prison. Through this, mothers have been able to gift a pack to their child. Filled with fun activities, child-friendly, the packs are giving children activities they can talk about and complete during calls with their mothers. Thank you for providing fun, joy and memories for these children and their mothers! 12.01.2022 I spent 20 months in prison and through Prison Network and their networks I’ve gained employment. It has given me direction, motivation and self-esteem. I will be forever grateful for this helping hand.
09.01.2022 We'd like to introduce our newest Board Member, Carolyn Clark. Carolyn was recently awarded an Order of Australia Medal for 20 years of voluntary service to women and the community. Carolyn has practiced law for 10 years in the private and public sectors. She has extensive Board experience including as director of Sacred Heart Mission since 2009. Carolyn shares a poignant story that lead her to Prison Network. http://prisonnetwork.org.au/incarceration-should-not-be-fo/
09.01.2022 You saw me at the lowest point in my life and believed that I have something to offer and build onI haven’t had that support before. I appreciate you so much.
07.01.2022 Recently a woman in prison said to our staff: Thank you so much for what you are STILL doing. We feel like everyone else has forgotten us. Our hard-working staff and wonderful volunteers continue to find ways to ensure women in prison feel connected and engaged despite the restrictions. The Craft Packs and Activity Sheets have been incredibly popular. We originally delivered 50 Craft Packs. These disappeared within 10 minutes, with many missing out. We are now delivering ...60 craft packs to Tarrengower each fortnight and 100 to DPFC every week. 400 double sided Activity Sheets are going to DPFC twice a week and 50 into Tarrengower. Staff say women will run towards them as they carry the sheets in. Purposeful and meaningful activity can turn someone’s day around. We are so grateful to all our supporters who make this possible. 04.01.2022 Creative activities have been found to be remarkably useful for improving health and wellbeing, particularly for those feeling isolated. Our craft packs continue to be incredibly popular during the period of restrictions in the prisons. We can't wait to be able to resume our regular programs but in the meantime we are relieved that we've been able to find temporary alternatives. These are our latest craft packs: 65 of the Paper Flowers will go into Tarrengower today. The Tassel Keyrings went in last fortnight. We are so grateful to our volunteers and supporters who help make this possible.
04.01.2022 We have lots of reasons to smile today. Because of your kind and generous support on Giving Tuesday we not only hit our target of $10,000 (including the matched giving) but more than doubled it. Because of your giving we have strengthened our core programs and services, which have been proven to change the trajectory for women and their families. We are incredibly grateful for all our wonderful givers. #givingtuesday2020
03.01.2022 Today is Giving Tuesday! We are celebrating in a number of ways. Firstly we want to share a video with you. It was created using an analogy shared by Rachel with our volunteers earlier this year. It is such a powerful analogy we have continued to retell it over and over to spur us all on. We hope it as encouraging to you as it has been to us. All donations made today will be double thanks to a private matcher. Donations can be made here: https://www.givenow.com.au/prisonnetwo...rkgivingtuesday We are so grateful for all that you give. *video credit: David Mustac
02.01.2022 Please watch! A beautiful message of gratitude from our Senior Support Worker, Laurel. It captures perfectly the spirit of Giving Tuesday as we celebrate generosity and all that it unlocks. #givingtuesday2020
02.01.2022 Last night around 30 volunteers set up a ‘conveyer belt’ style system to pack 570 Christmas packages. It was quite a feat! Today 500 packages have gone into Dame Phyllis Frost Centre. The remainder will go into Tarrengower on Friday. Each woman in prison in Victoria will receive a Christmas package. We have heard how much these packages mean to the women. We can only imagine how much more they will mean this year. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
