04.01.2022 A trip to Cooktown should be on every bodies bucket list. Come with me for the day where we will see the strange Black Mountains formed 260 million years ago, stop for a cuppa and nibble at the Palmer River Roadhouse site of largest alluvial gold rush in Australia. Arrive in Cooktown where the then Lt James Cook brought the Bark Endevour Ashore to be repaired in 1770, having run aground on the Great barrier reef. Up to Grassy Hill to survey the area as Cook did followed by ...a look through the Cooktown Museum to view the Anchor and Cannon from the Endevour raised up from the reef 200yrs after having been left behind by Cook in 1770. Maybe have a beer in one of the 3 remaining pubs in town from the gold rush days of the 1870's ( there were 50!) . A fisherman's basket for lunch followed by a stroll through the Cemetery and then we leave Cooktown behind stopping in at the famous Lion's Den Hotel built in 1875. A great way to see this part of the far North. If this this is something you would like to do get a party together ( min of 4 max of 7 ) and do it in air conditioned comfort. give Joe a call to arrange a tour On 0402051658. See more
