12.01.2022 Meek's Road substation and switch house are of local significance as part of the 15 railway substation sites built between the 1920-30s to establish the electrification of the metropolitan railway network, with the electrification of the rail network being a highly significant event in the history of the NSW railways. Meeks Rd substation was one of the first substations built by the railways for the electrification of suburban lines in 1926, and continues to convert electrica...l power for use on the network. The buildings are a good example of the Inter-War Stripped Classical style sub-station (known as the ‘Bradfield design’), with the quality of design reflecting the desire by the railways to showcase a new era of technology with the introduction of an electric system. Project Finish played its role in the 2013 upgrade of this landmark applying protective coatings from various Dulux and Keim products. Throughout the project working alongside UGL Limited to showcase this unique property in Marrickville. See more
