13.02.2022 Sex work has been decriminalised in Victoria! Project Respect acknowledges the diversity of lived experiences and views from the communities we serve in reaction to this news. We are committed to working with the Victorian Government and all stakeholders to ensure the people with lived experiences are heard and valued, including gender diverse people and women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including migrant women and women on temporary visas, who co...mprise the majority of the industry and are especially vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking. 01.02.2022 We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Carolyn Gowers as Project Respect's new Executive Director! Carolyn is an experienced senior manager, specialising in quality, compliance and risk within the community services and family violence sectors. Carolyn’s dedication and leadership will advance our purpose of supporting women in the sex industry, including women who have experienced trafficking. Her experience will also be invaluable in advocating for the structural cha...nge needed to end all forms of sexual exploitation. I am looking forward to being part of Project Respect’s important work in improving outcomes for women, elevating lived experience voices, and advocating for positive and lasting change. The current trajectory of societal change and reform brings possibilities for real system improvements to reduce exploitation and harm. Project Respect is well positioned to support these positive changes while continuing direct support for women in the sex industry, including women who have experienced trafficking. -Carolyon Gowers, Executive Director #projectrespect #projectrespectaustralia #womenmatter #feminist #community
