24.01.2022 BREAKING: The Minister has agreed with our call to pursue immunocontraceptive darting as a humane method to reduce the number of horses at Kosciuszko National P...ark. Our Notice received the full support of the House calling for trials to begin urgently. Previous delays have caused stress and controversy by sending horses to knackeries rather than changing the process to humane fertility control. Horses continued to suffer horrific deaths, native animals remained at threat, and communities were stressed about the animal cruelty. Remember, a wild horse has the same capacity to feel pain and fear as a native animal, and their lives deserve the same level of dignity and respect. With the right investment in research and trial studies, fertility control offers potential to humanely and ethically reduce wild-horse numbers. It is the only scientifically-backed solution being put forward that promises to be both effective, and avoid extreme animal cruelty. Now that we have the Minister’s support for this, we will be working closely with his office to ensure its implementation. Let’s stop the blood bath and slaughter.

22.01.2022 We are extremely disappointed, but not surprised, that a NSW parliamentary ‘industry’ committee has today rejected a Bill to ban mulesing and to require pain re...lief for other common animal husbandry practices. The parliamentary committee has prioritised industry’s concerns about market risk ahead of animal welfare. The ADO rejects the assertion that ‘everyone involved in this debate has the best interests of the animals at heart’. Clearly industry stakeholders, and the committee majority, had the best interests of the animal agriculture industry at heart, which is the polar opposite of the best interests of animals. The ADO also rejects the committee majority leaving it to industry to phase out mulesing or mandate pain relief for other animal procedures. Industry has had decades to do this, and if industry were going to do this itself, we would not be here in late 2020 debating a bill to ban, or mandate pain relief for, barbaric and painful husbandry procedures. Once again NSW fails to show any kind of leadership in animal welfare. The ADO commends The Hon. Mark Pearson MLC for his dissenting statement in the report, and for introducing the Bill. 09.01.2022 We’ve secured clean energy for NSW! The Upper House debated all Tuesday and through the night, then all Wednesday, finally defeating the Shooters and One Nation... last night and securing safe, renewable energy for the state. This was worth the fight- If humans and animals are going to continue to survive the present climate crisis, big investment in these kinds of clean solutions is critical. It’s not often we work to support the Government, but this legislation was long overdue. Congratulations Matt Kean MP. All I can say is thank goodness for coffee (and animal sanctuary keep cups). What a way to end our Parliamentary sitting weeks. To recap our last few weeks we: *Passed new laws to protect animals from domestic and family violence *Blocked the Koala Killing Bill *Passed renewable energy to help our climate crisis #Winning #WorthNotSleeping
