21.01.2022 Fuel Facts: Ethanol, Bio-Diesel & Water Absorption With the introduction of Ethanol based petrol and Bio Diesel, while there may be some arguable benefit for the environment, these fuels have also created some problems. Ethanol will absorb moisture from the atmosphere causing the potential build up of water in a fuel tank. Water is not combustible and can cause wear in fuel injector pumps and fuel injectors. Modern petrol-fuelled engines react very adversely to the presence o...f water. Similarly, with diesel driven engines, Bio Diesel can also absorb water from the atmosphere. The presence of water in a diesel fuel tank can cause a bacteria to form and grow at the interface between the water and fuel, blocking the fuel filter and causing complete engine failure. Further, with the modern common rail diesel engines, water can become very harmful through the fuel injector pump and particularly the fuel injectors. While the recommended method of controlling water is to drain the water from a fuel tank, Pro-Ma PT5 Petrol Fuel Treatment and DT5 Diesel Fuel Treatment have a Surfactant as a main ingredient. The Surfactant breaks down the water into tiny droplets and then completely encapsulates that droplet within a long chain polymer molecule so no actual water touches any part of the engine components as it is harmlessly expelled through the exhaust system.
