25.01.2022 "Pain is an action signal, not a damage meter." - Todd Hargrove.

24.01.2022 "Exhaustion, emotional distress, smoking, and being really out-of-shape are all more important risk factors for pain than any typical misalignment has ever been."

23.01.2022 "If we can appreciate that pain is a protective device, not a measure of tissue damage, if we can communicate that to people, then we change the game," - Professor Lorimer Moseley

19.01.2022 I've been looking forward to reading this: Endure by Alex Hutchinson. It finally arrived. All about pushing our limits and testing our endurance, both physically and psychologically. #endurance #limits #whatdoesntkillyoumakesyoustronger #ilovereading #bookstagram #readingislife #neverstoplearning

18.01.2022 "If you think you know a lot about something, even though you don't, you're less likely to be curious enough to explore the topic further, and will fail to learn how little you know,"

18.01.2022 A little truth-telling

18.01.2022 ...and now for something a little lighter

16.01.2022 "Research suggests that warnings about sitting at work are overblown, and that standing desks are overrated as a way to improve health. Dr. David Rempel, a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, who has written on this issue, said, 'Well-meaning safety professionals and some office furniture manufacturers are pushing sit-stand workstations as a way of improving cardiovascular health but there is no scientific evidence to support this recommendation.' For convenience and comfort, its nice to have options if you have various aches and pains... but people shouldnt be under the illusion that theyre getting exercise.'"

14.01.2022 Resistance training is the closest thing to the fountain of youth that we have,

12.01.2022 Alternative medicine, is it a cult? "No reasonable person assumes that the pharmaceutical industry smells of roses. However, the exaggerated and systematic denunciation of this industry and its achievements is a characteristic of virtually all branches of alternative medicine. Such behaviour usually tells us more about the accuser than the accused."

11.01.2022 A perfect 3-min, no-nonsense approach to the classic meditation

10.01.2022 "Rather than trying to find a doctor who can make the pain disappear, we need to be aware that to a certain degree, it is a part of life and the best approach is to keep physically active in the right way, to find a strategy to manage stress and to keep on with normal activities. Like all complicated pain, avoiding it, trying to use a substance to blot it out, investing in one person the belief that he or she can cure you: that all makes it worse" Yup, that's pretty much it in a nutshell

09.01.2022 Peter O'Sullivan is Professor of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. A transcript of an interview discussing how it's time to rethink how professionals treat persistent musculoskeletal pain. #wordstoliveby #pain #stress #biopsychosocial #healthylifestyle #healthymind #painfree #quoteoftheday

08.01.2022 I often get clients who tell me very similar things that their Osteos, Chiros, and Physios have told them about their bodies: how they're "misaligned", how their backs always "go out", how their postures are terrible, how their "core" is weak, etc. The way we talk about our bodies is important. It can limit us and delay how quickly our pain goes away, if we tell ourselves in so many words that our bodies are weak or fragile or delicate. Our bodies are resilient and strong and adaptable.

07.01.2022 "Older adults who engaged in high levels of total physical activity, well above the current recommended minimum level had a greater likelihood of aging successfully 10 years later." Although the study focused on older individuals aged 49+ years, there is no reason why someone should wait to start exercising if they want to age successfully.

07.01.2022 I guess that's one way of doing it...?

06.01.2022 #exercise is the best #medicine

06.01.2022 Sleep deprivation has also been known to cause migraines, tension headaches, illness, chronic low-back pain, increase pain sensitivity and affect mental health. Massage is known to relieve muscle tension, decrease pain, decrease depression and anxiety levels, and improve quality of sleep.

01.01.2022 "Our expectations dictate our perceived recovery. With those caveats in mind, the overall result of the meta-analysis was that... the best results for muscle soreness and fatigue came from massage."

01.01.2022 "Its not that their pain is in their heads. The truth is much more nuanced: All pain can have both physical and psychological components."
