16.01.2022 There has been a fair bit of press recently about lead being leached into the water from lead in brass kitchen taps. This is nothing new and has been going on for years but seems to be worse now most likely a result of Chinese manufacture of tapware and lead being half the price of zinc and 5 times cheaper than copper which are the two elements brass is made from. The lead may not have been deliberately added but suspect it may have been but lead in brass makes it easier to m...achine but also the taps are made with recycled brass and that will have a high lead content from solders and the like. What is a concern is many people will decide to purchase a lead rated water filter but not realising that they will most likely put the lead back in with the dedicated filter tap if it is not listed as a NSF rated tap (faucet). Only about 5% of Australian water filter suppliers use NSF rated filter faucets and we are one that does but people will shop at a very popular hardware chain and suppliers that don’t care about the lead content of the faucets they supply with the filter systems. People will buy on price to rid their drinking water of lead when in fact they are not. See more
