17.01.2022 We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make the mental health system more supportive and inclusive of children, family and friends, take action: bit.ly/familiesdeservecompassion

15.01.2022 Everyone deserves to feel safe and supported when accessing mental health services. Yet, many people experience the current system at best transactional and at ...worst destructive. The Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to truly transform the system and improve the safety of all Victorians accessing mental health services. Join us as we strive for a system that is physically, culturally, emotionally and gender safe. What do you want to see? #myfamilydeserves

14.01.2022 To mark the return of the footy season we wanted to share with you the Role Modelling Respect work we did with Woodend/Hesket Football & Netball Club earlier in... the year. With the aim of challenging harmful social norms and promoting a club culture that is inclusive where every member of the club is valued, members were photographed with a statement that models respectful behaviour. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing these photos. This first one challenges the phrase ‘boys will be boys’ which implies that boys are biologically wired to be boisterous and rough and that they should be excused from any consequences for that behaviour. It supports the idea that there is only one way to be a boy. Let’s give boys and men more credit by deleting boys will be boys from our conversations.

03.01.2022 Local charity PS My Family Matters who support those caring for loved ones with a mental illness, is offering mental health first aid training online. The traditional 2-day course has been adapted to suit the restrictions of the health crisis and offers carers an opportunity to self-pace their training to suit their individual schedules. Through the grant funding we have received from the NDIS and the State Government we are able to offer this training to carers who are loo...king after loved ones with a diagnosed mental health issue, said Tamara Wilson, president of PSMFM. The training is open to all family members [over 16} who would wish to become more informed about mental illness and how to handle it. PSMFM is offering 20 complimentary places to carers in the Macedon Ranges. The program runs over a series of online modules with 2 facilitated sessions. In the past, many carers have been unable to attend the 2-day face to face training due the pressure of time and caring commitments, said Tamara. This format will give more carers access to this vital training, at their own pace. To enquire about booking a spot on the program or to know more about PSMFM, please call 0475269965. PSMFM is continuing to run online coffee catch ups for carers, which are proving to be popular during this time of lock down and restrictions. Please ring for more details. If you need immediate support or assistance contact Lifeline on 131411. See more
