25.01.2022 Thanks Vivid Health Chiropractic for sharing this post. I love it! 14 hugs a day sounds wonderful.

25.01.2022 Last minute: This looks good and is on tomorrow for parents of kids in years 10-12. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/how-to-support-your-teenage

25.01.2022 I know many year 10 students who are stressed about which subjects to pick for year 11 and 12. Its difficult for parents to advise them and this can be a cause of a great deal of stress, second-guessing self and sleepless nights in some cases. I want to share this link to a workshop run by Art of Smart Education. I highly recommend this workshop for students who need to choose their subjects next year. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/how-to-help-your-teenager-sele

24.01.2022 Its so good to get kids involved in jobs at home. They are learning new skills, taking a little of the load and learning the importance of helping out, being part of the family.

24.01.2022 This is a great video about staying focused and reducing procrastination. Great for students, but I think it relates to all of us. Every distraction costs 23 minutes and 15 seconds of good focused time! I love Rowans Art of Smart Education strategies to stay focused and productive!

23.01.2022 Im so proud of my Mum, Pia Horan who has published a beautiful story for children call The Puppy Who Wouldnt Share. Its a gorgeous social story for children who may be a bit too intense with their friends and wont let them play with other friends. Its in my waiting room, so have a read next time you are here. It can be purchased online at: https://piahorangross.com/home

22.01.2022 Yes please! We should definitely be passing more of this on. Thanks Grace Occupational Therapy !

21.01.2022 Things are changing so often and so rapidly, it's normal for many of us to feel uncertain and anxious at times. COVID brings so many added pressures it's easy to get caught up as parents trying to solve and respond to everything that is happening. It's easy to lose connection with our kids and teens. Our teens may act like they don't really want to spend time with us, but don't believe them! Find moments in the day to connect over a hot chocolate, go for a walk, watch a show ...together or just be in the same room, each doing something you enjoy. If you can, find something you like doing together without the distraction of the phone. If your teen tells you what's happening listen and reflect back, without judgement. Creating moments (however short) where your teen can talk to you is so important. It's laying a foundation for when problems happen or your teen is feeling anxious or low. They feel connected and safe enough to tell you. We lose too many gorgeous young people to suicide and my heart feels heavy every time I hear of another loss. If you are having difficulty communicating with your teen, I recommend the book HOW TO TALK SO TEENS WILL LISTEN AND LISTEN SO TEENS WILL TALK. It's an easy read and talks about simple strategies that make sense. Here is a link to some reviews about the book: https://www.goodreads.com//164277.How_to_Talk_So_Teens_Wil See more

12.01.2022 We continue to be open for Face-To-Face and online sessions. Please be assured that we are striving to keep everyone safe in our rooms. All surfaces are disinfected between clients. Including chairs, tables, door handles and anything you may touch (including the EFTPOS machine - I always wonder about those when I am shopping!). All toys are sanitised between children. Anything touched or played with is cleaned before it is used again. Please dont hesitate to ask about any of... our procedures to keep you and your children safe. We ask all clients not to attend if feeling any COVID-19 symptoms or waiting for results of a COVID-19 test. Thank you for your continued support and everything you are doing to keep safe. 08.01.2022 Here is a great App for children or young people who self-harm. If they have a phone or device they can open it any time they feel overwhelmed and want to self-harm. It teaches them to "ride the wave" of the urge to harm and gives them things to do instead. Everyone is different, so different strategies will help different kids. Ideas to comfort self, distractions, express feelings, release feelings and breathe to feel better. This is a great strategy, but not a replacement for professional help. If you are concerned that your son or daughter is self-harming, always seek professional help. You can find this App on the Apple App Store or Google Play and its free. https://au.reachout.com/tools-and-apps/calm-harm
