25.01.2022 I often don’t post about celebrity deaths, purely because there is already so many well put tributes available, and who really cares what I have to say. However, I figure the passing of Ennio Morricone is an opportunity to educate and promote some of the key film scoring work in history. If you haven’t heard Ennio Morricone’s music... you probably have. And if you haven’t, I highly recommend you do. I was given The Mission soundtrack for Christmas at the beginning of my musi...c studies. I would listen to it on long car trips. And short car trips. And no car trips. He is among the most influential and prolific film composers of all time. He didn’t just write amazing music, he was among a handful of composers that changed the way film scoring is approached. (Bernard Herman, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, among others). He passed away at 91 years old yesterday. The entire film composer community is in mourning; If you ask a film composer who their inspirations are, he is frequently somewhere at the top of that list. It seems strange to mourn someone you never knew personally, or to a deep level. However. Ennio is the reason many, many composers are the artists they are today.
