25.01.2022 This week I completed a copy edit of the website for fashion stylist, Kirsten Butler. Already near complete, it was just the 'About' page that needed a few tweaks to polish it up. One of the things I pick up when editing is long sentences. I break sentences into pieces, therefore allowing the reader to pause and digest the information. A mix of short and long sentences can help with flow, and is more appealing to read.... In Kirsten's bio, the use of short paragraphs also helps to keep readers' attention. Especially on screens, we want to avoid chunks of texts longer than five lines. Loving Kirsten's new site!

10.01.2022 I recently had the privilege of editing a primary teaching resource, 'Body, Brain, Belonging', by School-Link NSW. Casting a spotlight onto emotional and behavioural learning, the guidebook is focused on supporting teachers to implement sensory-based adjustments in the classroom. As a 'Mum-of-toddler', I personally found the book to be a fascinating deep-dive into how the brain develops in childhood.... This brilliantly presented guide is about investigating the triggers behind 'troubling' behaviour. Its aim is to help you identify each child's unique sensory preferences, enabling you to support their development and achieve positive outcomes. Amidst the COVID-19 landscape, this book may be a welcome resource for those honorary homeschoolers trying to make sense of their child's behaviour (you know, the behaviour that may see you hiding in the stationery cupboard/pantry/bathroom even as you read this post). By the same token, with school soon to recommence in an unfamiliar fashion, and children frazzled with the excitement and confusion of current events - 'Brain, Body, Belonging' could prove a handy tool in teachers' kits. Contact [email protected] to enquire about ordering. $15 per copy, with discounts for bulk orders. Teachers can also enquire with Vivian about 'Body, Brain, Belonging' workshops. Please 'like' and share now with your amazing teacher friends. #homeschooling #primaryteaching #behaviourallearning #sensorylearning #nochildleftbehind

05.01.2022 This week's edit took me to www.danitienemakeup.com - HQ of Cabarita-based makeup artist, Dani. I re-vamped the copy on Dani's site, as well as completing a website functionality review. What are your thoughts when it comes to editing testimonials? Some may assume it's a no-go zone, but it's actually a good move to fix punctuation and spelling. It's also okay to break long sentences into parts and even to remove excess words, so long as you don't change the essence of the mes...sage. For the web functionality review, one of my suggestions was to shuffle around the navigation menu to create a more logical flow. We decided to remove the Terms & Conditions from the main menu, tucking this more 'businessy' topic onto a sub-page instead. To finalise the edit I injected some keywords onto each page to help with SEO (search engine optimisation). As a bonus, I set up an automatic email that will be sent to anyone who submits an enquiry through Dani's website. This is a small but effective gesture when it comes to customer service. After reviewing the proposed changes Dani granted me access to her web portal so I could implement the changes myself. This is an optional service that is fun for me, and much less work for the client! If you're interested in having your website checked over, get in touch for an obligation-free chat. =)
