25.01.2022 A word (or ten) about Essential oils! (Warning: Longish read) but worth it! For the last 3 days, I have been attending a virtual international conference - Botanica 2020, which this year focused on Clinical Aromatherapy and herbal therapeutics, especially the Efficacy, Safety and Sustainability of essential oils and the industry that surrounds them. ... It was amazing, truly! Im not your biggest conference fan but this one ticked all the boxes. There were speakers and attendees from 54 countries and the quality of the presentations was fantastic. But what I really want to say something about is essential oil safety. Lets face it essential oils are everywhere and they are wonderful, powerful plant substances that can have all kinds of effects on the mind and body. Sadly, they are often over used and worse still, taken orally or applied undiluted to skin repeatedly, with no guidance or training and this can lead to some very disturbing results. Yes, they come from plants, so that makes them safe right? Well, its not that simple. Plants are made up of many chemical constituents. Yes, they occur naturally in the plant, but used to excess or in a form unsuitable for the body to process, means they can be harmful and cause allergic reactions, both internally and externally. That is why when applying them externally they should always be in a carrier such as a cream base or a massage oil, like sweet almond oil for example. As for taking them internally, no, just, no. While research into this does occur, it doesnt support the ingestion of essential oils, especially undiluted day in day out, or even once in a while, on the advice of people with little or no training. So, as a trained Aromatherapist as well as a Naturopath, if you want to dive into the world of beautiful aromas and essential oils, find a trained Aromatherapist, there are quite a few of us about. We will talk to you about your health and develop a customised blend to suit your needs and advise you how to use them at home safely. I can be reached here, on insta or have a look at my website below. www.pureelementnaturopathy.com

23.01.2022 #pureelementnaturopathy7daychallenge Day 6 A simple post that I hope will transport you for a while. I love the beach, so I thought I would put together a few of my (many) seaside pics and share them. Enjoy

23.01.2022 Its not a sprint, its a marathon As we head into August, it seems as if we are all reacting to the ongoing pandemic in many different ways. This is especially true for Victorians. Our short taste of a little extra face to face contact and the ability to get out and about to more places a few weeks ago, gave me some hope that while it certainly wasnt over, maybe we would have perhaps moved through the really tough restrictions. ... So, I can understand how this latest lockdown seems to weigh even more heavily on people than the first. It has taken another whole new mind shift and from what I hear, this one seems harder for most. When I saw the statement its not a sprint, its a marathon, it shifted something for me, and helped me to change the way I had been thinking about being in lockdown. Not that I have ever run a marathon, but I know that it is something that you dont expect to end quickly and the best way to get to the end is not to think about it, but just keep putting one foot in front of the other. A little like staying in the moment. Much easier said than done, but for me at least, it helped shift my thinking from hurry up and wait, to more acceptance. Having said that, everyone has their individual circumstances to deal with and if you are struggling, please reach out, talk to friends and family, or health practitioners. If that isnt possible see the links to organisations such as Headspace https://headspace.org.au/ Beyond Blue https://www.beyondblue.org.au/ and Lifeline https://www.lifeline.org.au/ I recommend this article, (see link below) from ABC News, it also gives a different perspective. https://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-impact-on-me/12477398 Stay safe and take care.

22.01.2022 love this little guy. He has been on my desk at different work locations for some time now. He reminds me, especially in these challenging times that trying something different is another thing I can do to help myself if Im stressed or worried about change or things not working out. Trying something different changes our perspective and it doesnt have to be huge, it can be as simple as a new recipe or a new activity like learning a language. ... What new thing would you like to try?

21.01.2022 Are you currently going through menopause? This post is for you It can be an interesting time of your life While I speak from experience, there are times when interesting is not the word I would use! However, over time I have learned a great deal about myself and the physical and psychological processes we experience during this stage of our lives, and my training as a Naturopath has helped me find greater understanding.... Because despite the fact that we all eventually go through it, it is possible that sometimes we dont fully understand the processes that are happening in our minds and bodies, other than our periods are suddenly all over the place, stopped then not stopped, or perhaps it seems like another person has taken over your body, feel like youre back in puberty again? sound familiar? Take it from me, when you are in the thick of it, it can be pretty hard to be objective and get all technical about what is going on with your body and your mind. But having knowledge and information can go a long way towards navigating this time in your life. Thats why I have decided to put a series of webinars together so you can find out more information about the changes that are going on for you. There will be lots of info available, but so that I can really target some of your biggest questions, I would love it if you DM or email me with your Top 3! That way I can make sure I cover the issues most important to you. www.pureelementnaturopathy.com

17.01.2022 How are you at taking care of yourself? In the interests of full disclosure, Im not always fantastic at taking care of myself and its taken being in lockdown to figure that out. Sure I look after my health but Ive realised these last few weeks how difficult I find it to relax and not be constantly on and being productive (years at uni will do that ) So what has the photo got to do with this? I took it while out walking the other day and it was a nice 5km walk and I f...elt great afterwards and guess what? My brain was quiet for the first time in a very long time. Sometimes we really do need to step off the roundabout and make regular time to reset and refuel. What stops your head spinning??

14.01.2022 You would think I would take my own advice, but Ive had a real struggle with the idea of downtime. After how many weeks of lockdown? You would think I would have grasped this concept sooner! Good news is, I have now! So, while I am open for business with online consults, I am now finding time to chill and get into some fun projects at home that have been on the list for some time. ... Adding to that some yoga, trying new recipes and maybe a little Netflix I am starting to feel more balanced again. This is good for both my mental and physical health. How about you? If youre feeling like you need draw breath and take some steps to look after yourself, hop over to my website- https://www.pureelementnaturopathy.com/naturopathy You can book a complimentary 15 minute conversation to discuss how I can help you. I work with herbal medicine, nutrition, essential oils and flower essences. Id love to talk to you

13.01.2022 Are we there yet? As we begin to come slowly out of isolation and move towards more new stages in our lives, what are you beginning to consider planning, starting, doing, finishing? What have you put off, either by choice or otherwise? Holidays? Health matters? The dentist? Unfortunately, that seems to be one of the things we tend to avoid! Just kidding!! Please dont ignore your dental health or your general health.... Just as it required a mind shift initially, to realise what impact lockdown was having on our lives and plans, now, the slight lifting of some restrictions can be just as confusing, exciting, and lets face it, stressful! There are many decisions to make right now. So while you bust out into the parks and beaches, think about looking after your general health and wellbeing, especially in preparation for winter. Organise to have that regular blood test, health check, or begin making that lifestyle change. Now is the time to follow up with your GP, Naturopath or other health professional. Of courseif you feel unwell and have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention straight away. Like I said, along with everything else, this has been a really stressful time in so many ways and if you feel like your mind is in hyperdrive, or sluggish, cant sleep or oversleep, cant concentrate, or just feel plain worn out and not sure where to start with life, the universe and everythinggive me a call (0407 303 114) and book in for a consultation https://www.pureelementnaturopathy.com/ Otherwise, feel free to book in for a Complementary 15 minute call to chat first if you would like to. Also check out my shop on the website, I have some Herbal teas and Aromatherapy roller bottles just perfect to get the de-stress ball rolling !! (See what I did there??)

09.01.2022 Cooking dinner tonight, with the music loud! I love to cook to music. Tonight its Led Zeppelin (yeah, yeah showing my age ) Do you have cooking music and if so what do you like to listen to?

09.01.2022 #pureeementnaturopathy7daychallenge Day 3 If you're in Melbourne, I hope you have been able to stay warm and dry today, it's sure been one straight out of the middle of winter, and more than ever we need to be eating as well as we can to support our immune systems. So I thought I would share one of my recipes. Although it's called a grain salad, it can absolutely be served warm and if you prefer animal protein, you can easily add chicken, beef or lamb. You can also spice... it up or down, to your taste - yum! Get on it!! See you tomorrow! See more

07.01.2022 Are you currently in perimenopause or menopause? This post is for you It is an interesting time, is it not? While I speak from experience, there are times when interesting is not the word I would use! However, over time I have learned a great deal about myself and the physical and psychological processes we experience during these stages of our lives. Perimenopause/menopause whats the difference you say? Because despite the fact that we all eventually go through it..., it is possible we might not fully understand the processes that are happening in our minds and bodies, other than our periods are suddenly all over the place, stopped then not stopped, perhaps it seems like another person has taken over your body, feel like youre back in puberty again?.and so it goes. If you would like to read more, have a look at my Blog on the Pure Element website - Menopause! 07.01.2022 Hello! While we ride the wave of our new normal there is no doubt that we have lots of adjustments to make on many levels. So I have set myself a 7 Day Challenge to bring something to my page that you might be able to use, laugh at, or just be distracted by. So today its Yoga! ... Right now our physical and mental health need some extra love and care and if you want to try some Yoga at home here are a couple of options: My friends at Hark Yoga have transitioned to Live-streaming their classes - Here are the links to their prices and times: https://www.harkyoga.com.au/prices; https://www.harkyoga.com.au/classes. Their lovely Yogis are amazing and the classes cater to all levels. Another Yoga option is Naturopathic Yoga. This is a more specific program developed by Naturopath and Yoga Teacher Amy Mingin, that has shorter, targeted sessions and Amy explains all the benefits behind the postures. Im loving this too, so getting plenty of yoga at the moment. If you like the sound of this, I offer this program online at Pure Element, so email or call me to find out more. [email protected] or 0407 303 114 As with any exercise program always advise if there are any injuries or other physical issues you have concerns about. See you tomorrow for Day 2.

06.01.2022 #pureelementnaturopathy7daychallenge Day 5. Is this how you feel some days? I am all too familiar with this feeling. In our current situation its so easy to get tangled up. We cant plan too much at all and yet we flip between trying to stay in the present and (over) thinking all the what ifs?. I have found the inability to make a plan beyond a day or two really challenging and have had to draw on lots of different sources to keep me grounded.... This is a perfectly natural reaction but given we have no end date for where we are right now, its a good idea to try and look after our mental (and physical) health as much as possible in your individual circumstances. Thats going to look different for everybody but heres a list of ideas and some links for you. * Exercise - obvious I know, but it can be as simple as a walk up your road or online gym and yoga classes. Exercise that suits your age and current fitness level, not only keeps your body moving but can clear all the chatter in your head. Its proven to be good for your mental health. * Ration how much news you listen to. Yes, keep up with major announcements and stay across hibernation rules, but crank the music (dig through the old vinyl records - or the new ones ) take up reading, art, any kind of craft. * If you like gardening, start digging. * Make a conscious effort to check in with friends and family on a regular basis * If youre finding it hard to focus try meditation. A couple of Apps are Calm and Insight both have a free component or you can subscribe. * If you find the need to reach beyond these things, go to this link for Beyond Blue https://www.beyondblue.org.au//national-help-lines-and-web. Here you will find a wide range of websites and organizations designed to offer ideas, help and support. Take care, stay connected, stay well and reach out if you need to.

05.01.2022 Walking through a local forest after my run this morning. Getting some Forest Bathing in. If you havent heard of Forest Bathing I have put a link to an article here for you. Its a thing ! and so good for your state of mind. There is plenty of research around that shows it has proven benefits for calming the mind and promoting a greater connectedness with life and nature. Even if you cant get near a forest today I hope you can be outside and in the sun. Take care! H...appy Monday! https://www.google.com.au//amp.abc.n/article/life/10369284

04.01.2022 Mixing up some herbal love to send to another lovely Nat who is helping her community through this difficult bushfire event as well as trying to deal with her own experience. It has been wonderful to see the response of communities all around the country and internationally. I also want to say, keep an eye on your own mental health and those around you. We need to hear about the progress of fires and weather conditions from a safety perspective but pause and observe how m...uch media exposure you are experiencing. It can become overwhelming and not all of it is helpful. If youre feeling powerless and stressed reach out to friends, family or your health practitioner. No one is in this alone and its better reach out than bottle it up and remember hugs are free, give them, receive them. lifeline.org.au - 13 11 14 beyoneblue.org.au - 1300 224636

04.01.2022 This is what Im doing this weekend! So excited! I was to travel to Slovenia for this but the amazing Rhiannon Lewis and her team have turned it into an incredible online event. Yippee!

04.01.2022 Happy Friday all . I hope youre doing well wherever you are. This running thing is not all bad, I think I could get fit! Big thanks in todays video. Take care

03.01.2022 #pureelementnaturopathy7daychallenge Day 7! Happy Easter everyone! Another week of iso and I hope youre all hanging in. Its different for everyone and some are doing it really, really tough. So be gentle with each other and yourself.... I recommend daily hugs (in your house, no randoms ); reach out if you need to, dont keep your fear, frustration, worry or whatever you are feeling in. This is new ground and we are learning on the run. Online isnt necessarily as good as in person, but its whats we have at the moment, so its worth catching up regularly face to face. Mostly, just try and be in the moment and know that this will change .

02.01.2022 I love this description of holding space. As a Naturopath this is what I aim for with my clients. You would be amazed how breakthroughs can happen when you have someone you can talk to about your health. https://www.pureelementnaturopathy.com

02.01.2022 Some days lately I feel like these tiny plants. Stuck inside looking out - lockdown and winter will do that. But unlike these tiny plants, I can do many things to take care of myself even with all that is going on around us and realising this makes me incredibly grateful. So even though my tiny plants and I do spend a bit of time staring into space were doing ok! (and I do look after them too ). Which if you knew my track record with indoor plants youd be impressed! If... you feel like winter or lockdown or just the whole darn thing is driving you around the bend and want to start thinking about your health and feel better for when we can get outside again (and we will) I have some Naturopathy appointments available this Friday morning and also into next week. DM me for a chat or see my website pureelementnaturopathy.com Take care

01.01.2022 #natex2020 What a weekend! Jam packed full of learning, inspiration, meeting friends new and old and fun! Thank you Tammy and Murray Guest for a fantastic NatEx2020
