25.01.2022 What’s the best type of exercise for burning calories? Cardio or weights? Well, let’s dive into our Daily Calorie Burn first. BMR: Basal Metabolic Rate... This is the calories your body burns at rest. Doing nothing other than staying alive. Around 70% of your daily calories are burnt here. NEAT: Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis This is your daily movement that ISN’T planned exercise. Think walking to and from the car, housework, fidgeting, playing with the kids, running errands. This equates for about 15% of daily calories burnt in most people. (Psssst this is one of the easiest ways to increase your daily calories burnt.) TEF: Thermic Effect of Food This is the calories that our bodies use to digest the food that we eat. Around 10% of the calories burned each day come from TEF. (Fun fact: Protein has the highest TEF and therefore burns more calories because it’s more complex to break down.) EAT: Exercise Activity Thermogenesis AKA Planned exercise. The one that everyone thinks matters the most but it actually equates for the LEAST amount of calories burned per day, ranging between 5-10% of total calories. So, what’s the best type of exercise for burning calories? Cardio or weights? Between those two, resistance training not only burns calories in your session, it also helps increase your BMR and continues to burn calories after your workout (as well as making you strong AF) but cardio might burn more in a single session. BUTTTTTTT. If fat loss is your goal, nutrition should still be your number 1 focus, then the next best way to improve your calories burned is through increasing your NEAT.

25.01.2022 CLOSED THIS SUNDAY. Lest we forget.

25.01.2022 One day happens, life happens and sometimes the universe conspires to prevent us making it to the gym, eating well or doing something that will help us achieve our goals. And that’s okay. But habits are something we repeat over and over. They don’t have to be perfect, we just need to make sure we consistently do them, so they stick for the long term.... So a good rule of thumb to follow is to try and not miss two days in a row that way, we don’t let missing one workout turn into 2 days, 3 days or 6 months of missing workouts. A day here and there won’t derail progress, it’s totally human. But allowing yourself to bounce back into those positive habits the next day will make a huge difference long-term!

25.01.2022 And we’re back babyyyyy! So excited to see lots of happy faces this morning! Gym use, personal training, small group training and classes are all back!... Due to restrictions, bookings are essential, so if you’re keen to get started, shoot us a message or email!

24.01.2022 Either you win or you learn. Failure sucks big-time, it is never pleasant to have a something fail that you were so excited about, that you’ve thrown time and effort into and sacrificed for. But there’s always a silver lining. ... Instead of giving up completely, we need to use failure as an opportunity to learn and to figure out how we can do better in the future. It gives us a chance to ask why, analyse the reason/s it didn’t work and ways that we can change or refine it next time. That's what continuous improvement is all about. The takeaway is that when it comes to dealing with failure or setbacks, don't think of it as some kind of loss. Instead, turn it into a learning opportunity. The question to ask is, "what did I learn?" Then you can implement your learnings to become a better version of you! If you can do that consistently, you will continue to succeed in the long run. 21.01.2022 Why you should work out with friends. We know that exercise is fab for our minds and bodies but sometimes it’s challenging to keep interested and motivated. That’s why exercising with others can be a gamechanger! Here are 5 reasons why working out alongside others can be of huuuuuge benefit:... 1. It’s more fun. You’re less likely to get bored when you have workout buddies. While you’re catching up, having a laugh, encouraging each other, you’re also getting healthier. Banter during exercise helps time pass quicker too. #fact 2. You can build new friendships! Exercising with new people provides an opportunity to build new friendships. You already have an interest in common improving your health which can make it easier to chat about other things in your sessions. 3. You’re more likely to stick to it! If you’ve booked in for class, or organised a walk, you’re more likely to keep that commitment. Not wanting to let your gym buddies or coach down can be a great motivator to show up. And as your exercise becomes routine, you’ll both find it easier to stick to it. On those days when you don’t feel like exercising, a pep talk from your coach or workout buddy might be just the lift you need. 4. You’re more likely to smash your goals! Having people around you to motivate you can make all the difference to achieving your goal. 5. You’ll work harder with others around! When you exercise with friends, you’re more likely to encourage each other and to push a little harder than you might do on your own. It can bring out your competitive side and help give you a little nudge and when you’re ready to give up, the sight of others powering on will give you the boost you need to keep going. Wanting to work out with some rad humans? Luckily we have a whole gym full of them Shoot us a message! See more

18.01.2022 Ageing Well Class

18.01.2022 There are no shortcuts. We all want to lose 10kg in a month, see strength and fitness gains overnight and want to be a blissed out yogi after a couple of meditations but it’s more like a marathon, not a sprint. Think of your mental and physical health like cleaning your house.... You don’t just do it once and it stays clean. It requires constant upkeep. (Dang it! ) Just as you can’t do one workshop, one meditation, a few journal entries, a few workouts or a month of ‘eating clean’ and never have to do it again. To see results and keep seeing improvements, it requires continual attention. Now, that’s not to say it’s always going to be a hard slog actually quite the opposite. Imagine if you hadn’t cleaned your house for 2 years. The first few cleaning sessions would be HARD WORK. But the more you cleaned and the more you kept things tidy along the way, the less work it would require and the easier it would be. Your health is the same. If you’ve come into a health and fitness journey starting from scratch, it will be challenging AF at the start. But it gets easier to do the upkeep. Your skill-set gets better, your awareness gets better and you gravitate more towards the positive outcomes by default. What we have to focus on though, is that there is no sneaky shortcut to a miraculous endpoint when health is the goal. However, the upkeep gets much easier and more rewarding if you put in the hard yards early. - @carlzjsoda See more

18.01.2022 Work with what you’ve got. We get it, this year has been totally unprecedented. And a LOTTTTT of our regular go-to’s are now off-limits or restricted in some way. ... But that doesn’t mean you have to throw in the towel. It would be so easy to come up with 47 different reasons why you can’t, say I’ll do it when ____ or list all the things that used to help you. Instead, choose to phrase your challenges differently to work out ways you CAN work with what you’ve got. Start by asking yourself some questions: > What is an area in my life in which I want to improve? > What are some usual methods that are available to me to deal with this? > Then ask, what are some different, unconventional methods are available for me to deal with this challenge? Write a list. Because tools are there to be used. It doesn't matter if they're conventional or unconventional. It’s a lot easier to see success if you’re willing to think outside the box and think about what IS available... Rather than what isn’t. If something works, use it. See more

17.01.2022 Energy flows where focus goes. What we focus on is where all our energy goes. So it’s up to you...... Do you want to focus all your energy on the negative, the things that aren’t going well, the things that make you feel shitty? And therefore give more energy to them? Or would you like to give more energy to things that make you feel amazing, add value to your life and make you continue to make life better? See more

14.01.2022 Peace out 2020! And what a year it’s been! Instead of just getting excited about seeing the back of 2020, we invite you all to look back at all of the good things that have come out of this year.... For us, we’re thankful for all our beautiful members, our local community and our friends and family for their incredible support. We’re proud of all the work we were able to do, pivoting and doing whatever we could to keep everyone moving. We’re also blown away by the resilience everyone showed this year. Adapting, changing, showing up for themselves, trying things outside of their comfort zones and working out new ways to do things. Spending more time with family was also another thing we were grateful for. (We definitely won’t take nights out with friends or fam for granted ever again!) It also allowed us to work on being present more and grateful of what we do have, rather than rushing around a million miles an hour. Last but not least, we got to really enjoy Korumburra and our local area. With travel restricted, we got to enjoy our local businesses, little day trips, lots more walks, bike rides and exploring. So while we’re excited to see what 2021 has in store (hint: lots of fun stuff coming for the gym!) we’re also ridiculously grateful for everything this year had to teach us and so, so thankful for all of you! Happy New Year! See more

13.01.2022 M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S We hope you have the most amazing day filled with your loved ones, lots of laughter and tons of yummy food! Love, the team at Pure. x

11.01.2022 Be careful with the stories that you tell about yourself. Be careful with the language you use. Be careful of the jokes you make at your expense.... Our brains input whatever data that comes its way the more we tell a particular story, use similar language, or joke about ourselves, the more times our brain inputs that information. If we keep inputting negative information it becomes easier for us to believe it, easier to focus on the negative and a lot more challenging to see the positives. Your mind is always listening, so make sure it’s listening to some good stuff. See more

10.01.2022 Focus > Balance People think they are striving for the perfect ‘balance.’ But ‘balance’ implies equal amounts of energy given to everything. For example: 20% to friends/family, 20% to work, 20% to leisure, 20% to housework and 20% for everything else. But think about it... ... Are you really satisfied with giving your family and friends only 20% of your energy? Or your work? Or your relaxation time? Instead what we’re striving for shouldn’t be balance at all, it should instead be ‘focus.’ When we’re at work, we should be focused on work. When we’re with our loved ones, we should be 100% present and focused on them. And, our time off? You guessed it! We should be focused on enjoying it and using that time to unwind. This means no checking emails at the dinner table, or scrolling socials when you’re having time with your fam. This means no working on your days off and cutting down the dead time when you’re at work. By doing this, it will not only give you clear boundaries in you life but it will also allow you to do everything better. You will be recharged and have a crystal clear focus at work, so you can get more work done in less time. Getting all your work done at work will mean that when you’re home, you can be present and enjoy your time there. You will sleep better, have more energy for exercise, laugh and enjoy life more and completely reduce your stress levels. So instead of striving for ‘balance,’ strive for focus and make sure you switch off some things, so you’re at full power when you switch onto other things. See more

10.01.2022 Weight training for fat loss. Now there’s a myth in the fitness industry that cardio is King when it comes to fat loss. But instead focusing on your nutrition first and foremost, coupled with resistance training will actually benefit you much more than only thrashing yourself with cardio. While cardio helps get that heart rate up, the reason HIIT-type exercises and cardio are thought to be more effective than weights training is because of the increased fatigue associate...d with it. After you’ve cooked yourself and can’t breathe, that’s a good workout, yeah? Don’t get us wrong, cardio can definitely aid with weight loss, and has a place in a structured workout program. But focusing on cardio only has some problems, number 1 being you can’t out train a poor diet, not even with cardio. Secondly, the weight loss that come from solely cardio based training doesn’t only target fat it can reduce muscle mass as well. And because a lot of people want to lose fat and look toned, cardio-only isn’t going to be the answer. Resistance training helps with excess fat loss by increasing both after-burn after exercise, and by increasing muscle size, thereby increasing the number of calories we burn at rest. (AKA burning calories when you’re not in the gym.) Increasing muscle and reducing body fat is also what gives you that toned appearance. So, don’t be scared of weights. Ensure your nutrition is on point first and foremost and add in structured weight training and we guarantee you’ll start seeing body composition changes.

10.01.2022 Is wanting to have the perfect conditions for your workout holding you back? The perfect amount of time? The perfect space? The perfect weather?... The perfect equipment? The perfect body? Waiting for everything to be perfect isn’t going to get you very far, because unfortunately nothing in life is perfect. As the old saying goes, done is better than perfect. Showing up and getting it done in any capacity is ALWAYS going to be better than doing nothing at all. Effective fitness and effective nutrition is not fancy. It’s actually so, downright simple. Do the basics as well as you can, as often as you can and with whatever you have available. You continue to show up consistently, you continue to put in the work, you continue making the best of your circumstances and you WILL progress. Time to say no more excuses. Time to start showing up for yourself. Time to start working towards your goals. And if you need help to figure out the best way to work with the time you have, the equipment you have, the body you have or the goals you have reach out! We love making health and fitness fun and showing you ways to progress from where you’re currently at. See more

05.01.2022 Drama vs Growth Cycle. Depending on how we look at the world, we can either be in a Drama Cycle where the world is against us or we can look at the world in a more positive way in the Growth Cycle. There are 3 roles in each cycle, and if you believe in one of those 3 roles then the other two must therefore exist.... The Drama Cycle has a victim, an aggressor and a rescuer. The victim is a victim to external people or events eg. they can’t exercise because they’re injured, it’s your friend’s fault that you missed your lunch, they got sick because it runs in their family. The aggressor can be a person or a thing if it’s external to you it can be an aggressor. The weather, other people, your circumstances etc. A rescuer comes to save the day. To be a rescuer and believe someone needs saving, it means you have to see them as a victim, unable to do it themselves. And while we might have noble intentions, it still creates more drama. Aggressors may think they’re delivering tough love. Rescuers may believe they’re helping. Victims may believe everything is outside of their control. However, if we switch our view to the Growth Cycle, those roles change to Hero, Mentor and Challenger and that already sounds better right? The people/things that arise, challenge us to grow, instead of being outside our control. There are mentors that are there to help us when we need it but they don’t do it for us. And we are the freakin hero in our own story we have the power to continually grow and do better, we aren’t a victim. Sometimes we can slip into the Drama Cycle even if we spend most of the time in the Growth Cycle the key is to seeing the patterns, being aware when we slip up and looking to move forward in a positive way.

03.01.2022 When you feel good, amazing, lit up and full of life, it’s because you’re focusing on the things you love, the things you’re grateful for, the things that make you happy. When you feel average, 100% guarantee it’s because you’re focused on what sucks about your current situation. Change your focus and you will change your mood.

01.01.2022 The difference. We started Pure Fitness as a way to offer what the other gyms didn't. We didn't want clients to feel like they were just another number. So, we created a space for everyone to feel welcomed and supported as soon as they stepped through the doors. ... A place where you feel comfortable, a place that you’re excited to visit, a place where you feel like part of the family. This year has really reaffirmed why we do what we do. We design classes and sessions specific to our clients to ensure they have fun, are constantly challenged and are able to grow and learn along the way. We foster a gym community of like minded legends who support each other and cheer each other on as you progress. Our trainers focus on each individual's goals, we work with you and your capabilities to find the exercises that you enjoy and that will get you results. We tailor all our advice to each individual and we don’t do cookie-cutter, generic programs, sessions, nutrition or classes because everyone is different. We're on a mission to create a happier, healthier and a more empowered Korumburra even more so now. Wanna find out more? Jump over to our website (link in bio) or send us a message!
