Why is that so? Are afflictions real or unreal? Afflictions are, of course, unreal. Are the phenomena in one's dreams real or unreal? Dreams are likewise unreal ! However, if one remains unawakened, the dream will forever seem real and genuine. It is the same with one's sufferings and happiness. But once one has awakened, all suffering, happiness, good fortune, and misfortune that occurred in the dream vanishes instantaneously. Where did they go? They neither come nor go. That's because the dream has no substance by itself; it has no real essence. Our afflictions, likewise, have neither self-substance nor real essence. It's just that in this Saha world, affliction gives rise to greed, hatred, delusion, and pride, leading one to kill, steal, commit sexual misconduct and lie, through body, speech and mind. This binds us to endless reincarnation within the six realms forever, especially the three wretched realms. However, such afflictions and karmic obstructions are eradicated as a matter of course once we have reached the Land of Bliss. Thank you Namo Amitabha Buddha
