The situations, the people, the emotions that really trigger me. When I find myself facing them, I ask, What are you here to teach me? rather than, Why me? or How is this fair? or Who are you to judge me? Instead, What are you here to teach me, anger, fear, injustice, darkness? The world is not here... to make me happy but to make me conscious. 18.01.2022 EMERGING from a dark night is transitioning from victim to creator. When we are victims of life, we cannot be happy. Life feels unfair. We look outside of ourselves for something or someone to blame. We become stuck in a sea of self-pity, comparing and ruminating and spiralling into darkness. Why does this shit always happen to me? Assigning blame is a habit. Change that and become responsible for your own life. You can take responsibility for your actions, your thoughts, y...our words, the daily habits that, when compounded, make you who you are. You have the power to change and shift and learn and grow. Thoughts become things. Give up your blame story and move into the vibration of forgiveness. Give up control and self-pity. Give up that separation from life and joy and love. 14.01.2022 BREAK THE HABIT of being you. It’s all too familiar to step into our habits this time of year, whether it is the traditional frantic stressed out busyness or the yearly onset of poor, lonely me. Now, I’m not saying these feelings are wrong or unjustified. I get them just like everyone else; being away from my family over Christmas has always been hard. Ahhh, but that’s just what I’m looking out for. The ‘always.’ That is a habit, a programming and I can change it. If you wan...t to create a new reality, you first have to stop living your old reality. But how? We humans have an amazing ability to self-reflect, to observe our own thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, which enables us to choose to change what we no longer want to think and feel. I have the power to choose who I want to be and what I want to allow into my life. So this year, I’m deciding that Christmas will NOT be another poor, lonely me holiday. With my conscious awareness, I am changing the underlying (subconscious) hardware. It takes diligence to watch as my thoughts turn to those of an orphan in a foreign country. It takes attention to notice and then interrupt those perceptions of loneliness. But with time and awareness, I begin to change the firing and wiring of networks in my brain, from the old patterns to the new. And my new reality, one of abundance and community, one of love and wholeness and connection all through Christmas, is created. This is a powerful process...reach out if you need help. 09.01.2022 What WORRIES you? Worry is negative thought patterns on repeat. Your mind plays the thought over and over, and your body responds as if the negative event is happening. Your breath rate increases and your muscles tense. How do you break the pattern of negative thoughts? As soon as you notice the worry, take a few deep breaths. Focus on the aliveness in your hands and feet. Feel your body sitting or standing, dropping you back into the present. Worry seems to be necessary b...ut it is only harmful, not helpful. Do what you can about the situation, take conscious action, and then let go of the worry. Yoga can help take our attention away from the mind and put it back into the body, helping us release worry. In yoga, you are in presence and the present moment is the door to your power. Are you ready to step out of worry and into power? Come practice with me this week! 07.01.2022 3 Tips for MINDFUL PARENTING Parenting is the most challenging yet rewarding job that exists. How do we improve our experience as well as those of our children while also maintaining our peace of mind? Here are a few strategies I’ve found helpful: 1. Let them fall. ... Life is not easy. If we try to protect our kids from failure, they will lack resilience when times get tough. Instead, let them know that challenge is normal and through our struggles, we grow. Whether it is your toddler tripping over or your teenager feeling excluded, you cannot shield them from pain. This is how they learn about the world. Be there for them. Listen and love. 2. Teach them to breathe. Empower your child to get through the tough times by giving them tools that will help them cope. I tell mine, Stop and take a deep breath. (Well, I tell adults this too ) Giving them permission to take that moment of pause can diffuse an impending explosion at home or at school. 3. Be present. One of the gifts I received from a difficult separation was realising how precious my time with my kids is. When they are with me, I am fully present. I listen. I talk with them. I reduce other distractions. And as a result, we are deeply connected. If I am constantly on my phone when my children are around, they will mimic my behaviour. We will loose that important connection and communication will inevitably shut down. I have a teenager and now more than ever I realise how important those lines of communication are. 07.01.2022 REMEMBER. Our neocortex is the part of the brain that gives us memory. And we are fortunate to be able to remember the past with incredible detail. But the problem with having such an over large higher brain (compared to other animals) is that we can get stuck in our memories, stuck in the past. The brain reproduces a vivid picture of the memory and recreates the exact emotions that go with it. If it’s a difficult memory, then these thoughts alone trigger a physical stress re...sponse. Suddenly, just from a memory created by my brain, I’m back in that place and time and my body is responding as if I’m there. We can relive negative experiences hundreds of times in a day. And each time, more stress hormones are released. We end up in a state of chronic stress. Not good. So how do we combat this? Two tips: 1. Notice when you are ruminating over difficult experiences and press the stop button in your head. Tune into your body and breath. Gaze to the horizon. We are not sweeping those feelings under the rug, but recognising that we don’t need to be on a repeating loop of stress. 2. If reliving difficult memories creates physical stress in the body, then reliving positive memories might help us heal. Shift your thoughts to something wonderful that’s happened in your day or your week. Find gratitude. You will feel an immediate change in your body as your brain chemistry reroutes. Pave new pathways in that big brain of yours! . . 01.01.2022 THANKSGIVING is understanding what a privilege it is to be alive in this world. That recognition of the millions of things around and within us that conspire and mesh and live and join together so that we can take our next breath. To realise that life is a miracle and we are part of it rather than outside of it. Together, we humans along with all other species around and inside of us, participate in the interconnected ecosystem in which we live. We are part of something bigger even when times are tough or we feel pain or the world is scary. We belong. To inhabit this body is to be alive and a contributing part of the whole. What an intricate beautiful mystery this life is. . #grateful

01.01.2022 PIECE OF PEACE And here we are again at that time of year when life seems to speed up. The schedule fills and there are not enough hours in the day to get it all done. How do we maintain our peace? As we get busier, we also start to experience more cravings. I need a better job or a fitter body or more money or a different partner or a bigger house. The desires come strong as advertisers take full advantage of the season. ... My challenge in the lead up to Christmas is to practice CONTENTMENT. Every. Day. Constant reminders that I have everything I need. I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I am whole just as I am right now. Content with this abundant life. And the more I practice, the more peace I feel on the inside. And the more peace I share with the people around me. But it takes practice. Of course there are challenges. My days are full of them, big and small. I get knocked out of peace again and again. But I keep coming back, working towards contentment. I am content with this incredible life. I have everything I need. I am whole and complete. And the peace returns, maybe even just in glimpses at first. We are all on this journey towards contentment, towards awakening to our wholeness, our oneness. Let’s help each other and share a piece of peace today. . . . .
