25.01.2022 We often view anxiety as a negative. We see it as a weakness, a thought that we are not strong enough. In fact anxiety can be a positive thing. It can be like a light flashing a warning to you about a situation, a danger or a prompt that something is going on that needs our attention. Something that needs to be thought through and addressed. When we don’t work through anxiety, thoughts and feelings can snowball into avalanches. Totally controlling and taking over our live...s which can then lead to further issues like panic attacks, isolation from people, fear about what others are thinking and even paranoia. When we ask for help from others and we bring these anxious issues into the open we share the load and allow an opportunity to hear the truth. So often we deal with the symptoms, deep breathing, relaxing strategies, diet, exercise and self help books which can all help in the short term. But we need to find the cause. What’s really happening to cause our anxiety? Is it a lack of control? Fear? Insecurity? False foundations and thoughts? Memories? Pain? Abuse? Or sometimes we don’t know what the cause is. At Purpose Counselling you can talk to someone to help you sift through your symptoms, find the cause and teach you prevention strategies for the future. Call 0402418374 to make an appointment.
19.01.2022 Infertility, a heart breaking struggle in peoples lives that goes on in plain site. People struggling everyday, but you may never know due to the mask they wear to cover the pain, hurt, shame and heartbreak. Infertility brings along a suitcase full of items and questions you never meant to pack on your journey. Items like: Physical problems that can't easily be fixed, Mind games, Moments filled with hope, only to be crushed down a few days later,... Questions about identity, ability and self worth. Infertility takes away any control and chooses things for us that we never wished for. Sadly people you work with, talk to everyday, love and do life with may be on this journey of infertility and you would never know it. It can take control of our lives, thoughts, our emotions and be consuming. Yet at the same time we try to put on a brave face, not share our burden and think that it is something we have to do on our own. When my own battle with infertility began, I didn't want to talk about it. I questioned why was this happening, isolated myself and hoped the world would stop so I could get off. I was so angry and confused. There was no one I could share my thoughts with. Negative thoughts snowballed in my mind building new but mistaken truths. "'I'm not good enough to pass on my DNA, recreate life or I'm a woman who is so broken I can't even do the basic thing I was created to do. I'm not worth anything. There was no hope and no light in the darkness. Through my own journey, I decided that no one should ever have to walk this road alone. We need to be able to share the load, the pain, with a loved one or sometimes with a stranger, counsellor or new friend that has had a similar experience. No two journeys are the same, but you don't have to do it alone. There is help and hope. People to talk to. www.purposecounselling.com.au See more
02.01.2022 2020: The year of the unknown. What a crazy year it has been so far. We celebrated the new year, looking forward with a vision, plans and goals. Just as we were starting to really fire up and begin to go for these goals, life quickly changed.... Our plans were cancelled and goals delayed. We were isolated. Fear of the virus overtook our lives, homes, news cycle and shopping trips. Financial and economic concerns rose to the list of priorities and some of us are now wearing a new hat as a teacher as we home school. Not quite the year we thought 2020 would be. When plans change unexpectedly we can feel loss, grief and out of control, anxious, thoughts spiralling, tired, unmotivated or scrambling to try and bring back control in other areas. Some people are smashing out projects and achieving more than usual. Some of us are in the unknown and not quite sure of our direction. If you are experiencing some of these feelings as well as unexplained highs and lows in this strange season, you are very normal and it is okay to feel this way. None of us have been through a situation like this before. There are no rights and wrongs, but each day is unique to you and your situation. You don't have to have it all together or know the next step. If you would like to talk to someone about your feelings and thoughts at this time, to help you understand and help you finds some tools through this season Purpose Counselling is available, through Messenger calls, Zoom sessions or Phone conversations. Please call Katrina on 0402418374 or PM this page.
