25.01.2022 With daylight savings ending this weekend, we are usually reminded to replace our smoke alarm batteries. Equally important is to test the functionality of the safety switches (RCDs) in the meter box. Just press the small "Test" button (usually has the letter "T" on it) on each switch. The switch should trip almost instantly. If not call an electrician to replace it. Whether it trips or not, don't hold the button in for longer than a second; the switch may overheat. After it has tripped, simply reset the switch. Many mains-powered clocks will lose time due to the loss of power - you will need to reset them but you were going to do that anyway.
