14.01.2022 Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Commissioner Katarina Carroll extends sincere thanks to the business community for allowing emergency volunteers a...nd auxiliary firefighters the flexibility to leave work to help protect the people of Queensland. On behalf of QFES I would like to send a big thank you to the Queensland business community for allowing our dedicated volunteers and auxiliaries flexible working arrangements during this challenging time, Ms Carroll said. Our QFES volunteers and auxiliaries have worked extremely hard under unprecedented conditions and their efforts have been nothing short of exemplary. Volunteers make up around 90 per cent of the QFES workforce, so we’re incredibly thankful for the support and flexibility they receive from their workplaces and of course their families. A lot of our volunteers and auxiliaries are small business owners themselves and knowing they put their lives and livelihood on hold to help others is truly humbling. Overall, the efforts from everyone involved in this emergency event has been enormous in scale and exemplary in execution. I’d also like to acknowledge the families and friends of volunteers for the support and love they offer at home when their dads, mums, sons and daughters drop everything at a moment’s notice when duty calls. The efforts from everyone involved in this emergency event, whether direct or indirect, have been extraordinary and I want to thank everyone for their incredible contributions. The Queensland community is grateful.
