25.01.2022 Reminder - Gold Coast Cup Entry Forms due in by this Saturday.

25.01.2022 Congratulations to Sensei Klaudia Caston, successfully grading to Nidan last Saturday. Normally QLD Chito-Ryu seniors have the opportunity to do dan gradings at... the QLD camp (usually May) and senior training weekend (Sep or Oct), however there are some special circumstances and we felt it was appropriate to make an exception. Prior to the QLD camp we were watching Sensei Klaudia closely as someone who was possibly ready to grade, but at that time there was still some more work to be done in some areas, so she did not get the opportunity to grade at the camp. Shortly after the camp Sensei Klaudia shared some big news with us, that some of you may already know. She's decided to spend the next 2 years in Canada, staying on after the Soke Cup. Given that she was so close to being ready to do her grading at the camp, we decided to give her the opportunity to keep working towards her nidan grading and if she got up to speed attempt her grading last weekend. She not only got up to speed to earn an invitation to grade, but also successfully passed, becoming only our 3rd home grown nidan on the Sunshine Coast. The next 2 years are sure to be a big adventure for her and although we're sad to see her leave the Sunshine Coast (temporarily) we're also excited to see where life takes her as she embarks on this adventure. Of course, there's still a few weeks before she heads off to Canada for the Soke Cup and beyond, so there will be plenty of opportunities to train with her and congratulate her in person before she goes.

25.01.2022 2018 - Sunshine Coast Tournament (March)

25.01.2022 It's wonderful to see so many beginners getting involved in the upcoming Sunshine Coast tournament & QLD camp. Both of these events are a great opportunity to grow your karate in new ways and they're lots of fun too. If you've never competed before, this is the perfect chance. And if you think you might enjoy spending a full weekend with some amazing people practicing karate, then don't miss out on the camp either.... Reminder: Registration for both of these events close this Saturday, 6th April.

Unfortunately she didn't have time to process them all before head off overseas but very grateful she could pass them on before she left. I've done my best to process, just hope I've done them justice.

07.01.2022 GC Cup - Entry Deadline extended to Tuesday 2 May Thank you to everyone who has got their entry form in for the Gold Coast Cup, only 1 week to go! We would stil...l love to see more of our students taking up the challenge of participating in the tournament so the deadline for entries has been extended to Tuesday 2 May. Tournaments are a great experience for everyone, especially our younger members. Through tournaments children learn about performing under pressure, overcoming self doubt, plus the value of stepping out of comfort zones and challenging themselves. I have witnessed 1st hand the personal growth that participants in tournaments experience. I have watched my daughter go from crying at the thought of it to having a go and realising that she could do it (she came somewhere near last). Within a few weeks of having competed at a tournament her teacher at school was asking what we had done with her as her confidence had grown so much. Juniors Students are welcome to just do kata or team kata if they don't feel confident enough for kumite (fighting) yet. For Junior students looking to grade the tournament is a perfect place to practise performing your kata under a little bit of pressure. Little Champions For our Little Champions there is kata, team kata, kumite (fighting), and kumite tag (the game where they rip the tags of each other). They do not have to do Kumite. Kumite Tag the kids love doing (even if they have not done it before they will quickly work out what to do). For the kata in the beginners Little Champions division students can have a senior belt count the kata for them, it is normal for 1/2 the kids at least to make a mistake in their kata, it is not about winning but about the elation and the confidence they get from having a go. The schedule for the event will be worked out mid next week, the kata events are completed before lunch, with the kumite events after lunch. for the Little Champions events we aim to have all their events completed by lunch time. Competitors are welcome to leave after their events or stay and enjoy the rest of the events. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Gold Coast Website (www.gckarate.com.au) If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me Sensei Adam.

07.01.2022 The schedule is now finalised for this Sunday's QLD Chito-Ryu State Titles. Please note: Due to the larger than expected number of entries, the start time will be 9:00am instead of 9:30am as originally publicised. There will be a canteen operating throughout the day. Menu to follow.

06.01.2022 Tournament results are now online for last weekend's Sunshine Coast tournament. Lots of photos to follow soon.

06.01.2022 Here are the draws for the Gold Coast Karate Competition. Please bookmark this link as there will not be any paper draws at the event. We are moving away from unnecessary use of paper :)... SCHEDULE If the schedule does not appear for you please click on "Area 1" and "Area 2" The timing used in the schedule is a BETA test mode so please keep an eye on the schedule through out the day and listen for the announcer to call you to marshaling. The BETA test mode does not allow for a lunch break. The plan is to have a lunch break after the "Kobudo -4 Kyu" on Area 1 and "Kumite 6-7yrs" on Area 2. 03.01.2022 What a big weekend of training for our Queensland seniors. More than 14 hours of training in just 2 days. Thank you everyone for making it a great weekend of learning. This is now the 3rd year that we've done this. Each year it's been great to see an ever growing love of training and continual growth in everyone's Karate. For our newer brown belt who attended the senior training weekend for the first time there is bound to be quite a bit of information overload. And for those... who have been in the senior ranks for a few years maybe it was the same for you, but if not there was definitely a lot of refinement of skills going on, plus a deepening of understanding in many areas of training. There is just one downside of the weekend, we were all enjoying our training so much, didn't get any photos, except for this one... Sorry. For everyone who attended... After a shower and a good sleep, get all of your notes up to date a get back in the dojo and continue practising. It's what you do next that will make all the difference for your continued learning. One last thing. In addition to a big weekend of training, I am please to announce that a number of students have successfully passed teaching and Dan gradings. Congratuations: Anthony Horgan - Jun-shidoin Matthew Stevenson - Jun-shidoin Keanu Caston - Jun-shidoin Klaudia Caston - Jun-shidoin Bailey Keefe - Jun-shidoin & Nidan
