22.01.2022 NEW EDUCATIONAL TOOL LAUNCHED! Our Members now have access to a new online interactive experience. It's an interactive and educational tool that takes you to different frog habitats within south-east QLD and find the frogs living within them. The habitats are presented in 360 degree views where you can find and hear the frog species that live there and learn more about what you see. There's also the option of viewing this tool using a virtual reality (VR) headset, allowing yo...u to immerse yourself in each habitat as if you were there. Whilst we're all self-isolating and unable to venture far from home, why not give this tool a go, suited to both adults and children. Check your inbox for the link!

22.01.2022 Today is National Threatened Species Day. Once found across the escarpment with large choruses of frogs heard, the critically endangered Kroombit Tinkerfrog (Taudactylus pleione) is now restricted to several sites below the escarpment at Kroombit Tops National Park. Fire, feral pigs and Chytrid fungus are all driving this species to extinction. But not all is lost for one of Australia's most threatened species. A small group of dedicated volunteers led by two Kroombit Tinkerf...rog Ecologists continue to monitor populations of this species during the wet season, thanks to a government grant successfully applied for by the QLD Frog Society. This grant will also provide funding to increase the area of pig-exclusion fencing surrounding critical tinkerfrog habitat, preventing further pig-induced habitat damage and spread of Chytrid fungus. Monitoring of the critically-endangered Kroombit Treefrog (Litoria kroombitensis) and vulnerable Tusked Frog (Adelotus brevis) is also supported by funding. For more details and how you can be involved, visit www.qldfrogs.asn.au. Photo credit - Kroombit Tinkerfrog and Tusked Frog: E.Meyer, Kroombit Treefrog: J. Hooper

20.01.2022 With the La Nina finally bringing the goods (rain) to QLD, our frogs and cane toad are getting busy! The 'Be Toadally Sure' brochure we produced a few years ago remains just as relevant today if you're uncertain as to the identity of your 'toad' - http://www.qldfrogs.asn.au/be-toadally-sure-campaign/... Furthermore, it includes photos of cane toad eggs and tadpoles and info on how to humanely euthanase cane toads. Finally, if you'd like to remove cane toad tadpoles from your pond/dam, visit http://www.qldfrogs.asn.au/cane-toad-challenge/ to learn how to access free cane toad tadpole baits.

20.01.2022 Cadbury's Freddo chocolate Save the Frogs series includes our own Armoured Mistfrog and Kroombit Tinkerfrog, the latter of which we've just returned from monitoring during the latest FrogSearch. Sounds to us like the perfect excuse to eat chocolate!

18.01.2022 On holidays and staying indoors from wet weather? Why not read our latest Frogsheet newsletter, emailed out to members before Christmas. Read about the exciting developments of the Kroombit Tinkerfrog breeding program at Currumbin plus catch up on what some of our Coordinators have been up to! Photo M. Vella.

18.01.2022 Over the last week we've updated several pages on our website. This inlcudes a comprehensive list of native plant nurseries along the QLD coast, plus our page on the keeping of frogs and tadpoles to reflect upcoming regulation changes by the QLD Government. Go check 'em out! www.qldfrogs.asn.au

17.01.2022 A CALL TO ACTION! We're so grateful to our few but dedicated volunteers who serve either on the Committee or as a passionate helping hand at community events or on our Kroombit FrogSearch trips. But our volunteer base is small and some cannot take on as much as they once did. So, will you put your hand up to help them out? We're not asking for a life-time commitment or attendance at every event, but just to know there are people we can call upon who are willing, when the time... comes. Members, for further information, check out our latest email to you.

16.01.2022 We're sharing an image of the Southern Dayfrog (Taudactylus diurnus) today, photographed by Owen Kelly and reflected upon by Glen Ingram, who was fortunate to have witnessed the species before their demise some 40-45 years ago. Once common in the creeks and streams of Conondale and D'Aguilar ranges, it's a harsh reminder of the consequences of Chytrid fungus and why illegally moving/buying/selling frogs and tadpoles is not worth the risk.

11.01.2022 This is fantastic news! There's been a lot of hard work by some very committed people who are the experts in their field. The team from Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary joined us earlier this year during our Kroombit FrogSearch project to monitor this critically endangered species in the wild. You too can be involved in this crucially important project. Visit http://www.qldfrogs.asn.au/kroombit-frogsearch/ for more info.

11.01.2022 Welcome to 2021! 2021 is an important year for QFS’s State Government-funded Kroombit Threatened Frogs Project with further surveys planned for February/March of 2021 and December 2021 and construction of a pig exclusion fence to protect habitat of the critically endangered Kroombit Tinkerfrog at Kroombit Tops National Park planned for winter 2021. We’re also looking for help analysing recordings from automated acoustic recorders currently deployed at Kroombit Tops National... Park to determine the presence/absence and abundance of threatened frog species there. You can learn more about these activities on QFS’s website http://www.qldfrogs.asn.au/kroombit-frogsearch/ If you’re willing and able to assist with any of the above activities, please get in touch with QFS’s events and initiatives coordinator Jono Hooper via e-mail: [email protected] See more
