24.01.2022 Sunday 8 March 2020 paddle Sunday is looking wild and windy for Cheryl's paddle from Point O'Halloran to Blakesley's Anchorage and return. Please keep an eye on your emails as we get closer to Sunday in case their are changes to the original plan. All being well it may be sails out and a great day.

24.01.2022 Another fantastic QSKC training event!! Thanks to all who participated in the "Intro to Surf" Session at Cotton Tree. Having fun in the sun learning and pushing boundaries... look out for more similar events coming soon!!

24.01.2022 Jacob's Well to Jumpinpin. Join Helena for a fantastic Grade 1 paddle tomorrow from Jacob's Well to Jumpinpin. A 7.30 meet time and a great 20km paddle. This is a favourite of many and a great day out. Bring morning tea, lunch, snacks, water and your own sign on pen. We hope to see you on the water soon.

23.01.2022 Fantastic training day today thanks to Macca and QSKC. Today’s focus was to train and qualify some of our members to run Basic Skills training for club.

22.01.2022 Congratulations to Silvio and Howard for successfully completing their final Paddle Australia assessment for Sea Guide on the weekend. The award is primarily a leadership award and allows them to take novices up to a maximum of 5 nautical miles from shore, winds of up to 25 knots, breaking waves (white caps) of up to 1 metre and surf up to 1 metre. This might be a bit much for a basic skills assessment but Grade 1s can come on Grade 2 trips with this qualification. The club has a few more waiting to be assessed once they have completed their project.......

21.01.2022 Good Morning one and all, Queensland Sea Kayak Club Inc. was founded on the basis of ensuring safe Sea Kayaking for its members and we still hold true to that tenant today. However our focus now also turns to reviewing our practices in light of other challenges besides being on the water. I am sure by now everyone has received a lot of information about Covid-19 (Corona virus)? Based on information that is current at the time of writing Sea Kayaking is an activity that can ...Continue reading

21.01.2022 What a great turn out for last Sundays skills day with QSKC. Big thank-you to Silvio and his helpers for a fantastic day of paddle skills and beginner rolling. Lots of old faces and many new ones as well. Good to see QSKC looking so ship shape.

18.01.2022 Composite or plastic? - health and environment considerations. I received an email from a kayak manufacturer in Sweden recently who wanted to highlight why they don't manufacture composite kayaks anymore. Most of us have a composite kayak since they are usually lightrer and higher performance but this comes at a cost to the environment and workers health. The manufacturer stated: "As for the composites, we stopped making composites all together a few years back due to the e...nvironmental and health impact of composites. It's not recyclable and when manufacturing kayaks, the process creates a lot of spillage of materials. When cutting out the cockpit, hatches and trimmings, massive spillage of materials is created. With PE (plastic), we simply grind it down and use it when making the next kayak. However, with composites, it goes to landfill or is burned. Also, the resins used with composites are pretty toxic as is the fine dust created when sanding the boats. It's actually carcinogen. After catching the workers without their protective masks again and again over the years (they hate working with heavy ventilation masks), it all just was too much and we pulled the plug. Fyi PE kayaks are completely safe to make. No protective clothes or gear are needed and it's all 100% clean." Or we could go back to dugouts!

16.01.2022 What to do when you can't paddle Unfortunately at this time not all of us can escape for a paddle and the reality is that it may get harder to pop out as well. Something that we may be able to do is we can make sure our boat is in good shape for when we can go for a paddle. If you require any fibreglass repairs, gel coat repairs etc then check out Tragic Idol surfboards as they also do Sea Kayaks. That's right Syd Mainland Sea Kayaks including Skeg boxes, Peter Voght - Bu...mble Bee could look much brighter and be ready for those Ladder/Cow Boy rescues. Contact Brett on: 0414768324, [email protected] or check out Tragic Idol Surfboards on Facebook.

14.01.2022 Coochie after lockdown. QSKC members enjoying a social paddle last weekend, keeping their distance and catching up with mates. What more could you ask for... except maybe campsites open but that's not too far away.

13.01.2022 In between sessions at Rock n Roll it is time to dry the gear and put the boats on the grass while you grab lunch etc

13.01.2022 It's a long way to the shop (Sea Candy Bruny Island, Expedition Kayaks) when you are off to Rock n Roll (Sea Kayak Symposium). Lovely pair of Romany's (classic and Surf).

10.01.2022 QSKC past president Eddie Safarik did a presentation on his Vanuatu trip at Rock n Roll. Eddie highlighted the benefits of 3 piece kayaks.

09.01.2022 Fraser Island Expedition: The club has just put up a replacement Fraser trip for October. Have a look to see if you are interested. The date has been changed to 17th - 24th October to give members more notice. The photos are from a shorter 2016 trip to Coongul Creek where the wind got the better of us.

07.01.2022 The clubs recent successful eight day trip to Fraser Island. 180 km return to the lighthouse and back. It was a great trip with luck with the weather and perfect tide planning. Come along to the Noosa weekend to see the updated presentation will photos from all the team.

07.01.2022 The New President Just a quick note to say thanks to the QSKC for voting me in as president today. The presidential campaign wasn't too tough this year and I didn't need President Putin's assistance to knock out the other candidates. Hopefully my reign will be a little less controversial. A big thank you for the previous committee members efforts in what has been a difficult year for them, and to those that are staying on or are new committee members for this year. I haven't... been that active in the club over the last couple of years. I've been on toddler duty mostly and wresting with life on a small farm with the regular escape of our bull Rupert keeping me busy. Those excuses aside, we have several initiatives proposed to boost the club this year, building on the previous committee's efforts. News on that in a later post. With Qld being mostly free of COVID 19 for now and being in the midst of the cooler months it's a good idea to make the most of paddling opportunities that come up. We are considering options for putting on a Fraser Island trip and even yoga for kayakers on Peel Island has been suggested, The yoga instructor is already lined up. We haven't visited the big sand hills on Moreton Island for a while either so that might be an option too. More to come..... Howard See more

06.01.2022 Rob and Phil taking it easy on yesterday's club trip. Departing Horseshoe Bay, Peel Island. Chris thought Peel Island was a little better than Birmingham (UK) where he is from.

06.01.2022 Rain?...what rain!! The surf training day at Currumbin had to be relocated due to strong winds and big swell making Wavebreak Island the obvious alternative. We had some great runners coming in through the Seaway giving us all the lumps and bumps that we needed... as for the pouring rain and gusting winds, well that just added to the ambience. Thanks to a fantastic group ;)

04.01.2022 The Environment Having just returned from a short trip to the Big Sand Hills on Moreton Island we were surprised to see how much junk there is in the bay and its impact, but we did our bit. We encountered a dead turtle ensnared in a discarded crab net and assorted junk left at the Big Sand Hills camp site. Mark Hurrey had some extra bin liners and cleaned up 200 m of beach front and I dug out numerous pieces of glass at the camp site and all of us assisted Sea Shepherd volun...teers pick up litter. The volunteers pick up rubbish once a year on Moreton Island and collect a few tonnes including several vehicle tyres. Sure, not all of it is discarded by visitors with much being washed in and out with the tide. Moreton Bay supports a large turtle population so if you see some plastic on the beach please pick it up. You can always just pile it up and give the rangers a call to come and remove it, and if you see any old crab pots on the beach pull them off the beach and disable them so that they are no longer turtle death traps. See more

03.01.2022 More training days for QSKC members... it's a tough job but we're doing it for a good cause ;). No seriously, this year we will have eight new PA qualified guides and one more instructor... now is a good time to join QSKC!!

02.01.2022 Weather and tides looking great and groups of 10 permitted out on the water. Join our Pete or Sue circumnavigating Coochie this Sunday or Gary's surf session at Mooloolaba on Saturday 30 May for Grade 2 paddlers. Places left in both. Visit our Paddle Australia site for links to the trip plans, launch times etc. https://paddleaustralia.azolve.com/Workbench.mvc/Show/6 Hope to see you there.

01.01.2022 Another great turnout at the QSKC Noosa Christmas Skills Weekend!! Thanks to everybody, friends old and new who made it a success.
