CocoNutZ, a bio-manufacturing company was one of 15 businesses to receive a Rural Economic Development (RED) Grant to build a processing facility next to the Mossman Sugar Mill, capable of producing Kecap Manis also known as sweet soy sauce. Production of the condiment will diversify the sugarcane industry giving producers more opportunities for their crop. 14.01.2022 Well known for their cheese, yoghurts and ice-cream, Kenilworth Dairies was one of 15 businesses to receive a Rural Economic Development (RED) Grant in Round 1 from QRIDA. The RED Grants program offered emerging agribusiness projects up to $250,000 in co-contributions to build industry and grow employment opportunities across the agricultural sector. The $10 million grant program provided three funding rounds over a three-year period ending 2020. Across the three rounds of the RED Grant program, a total of 43 agricultural businesses received funding towards economic development projects worth $40.8 million and estimated to create 1,897 new direct and indirect jobs over the lifetime of these projects.

What started out as a relief from dry conditions soon turned into days of uncertainty when the 2019 Monsoon Trough impacted Megan and Gerald Easton’s beef enterprise near Maxwelton. Despite the nationally recognised disaster event the Eastons knew they owed it to the land, their animals, their family and the... region to do what it took to recover.
