An inland trough extends offshore in the southeast, slowly moving northwards before stalling about the central inland on Wednesday. A southeasterly wind change over southeast districts, moves slowly northward reaching central coastal districts on Thursday, bringing a cooler change in its wake. The inland trough is expected to contract west later in the week as a ridge of high pressure builds along the east coast. outlook 25-11-2020 A slight to medium chance of showers about the far southeast in the morning. A slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms across northern and eastern districts north of the Sunshine coast. A trough extends from the northwest of the state, through the central highlands to the coast near Fraser Island. The coastal portion of this trough will tend to decay on Thursday as a high moves into the Tasman Sea and a new ridge develops along the east coast. The inland portion of the trough is expected to move westwards through the remainder of the week, eventually out of the state by the weekend. outlook 26-11-2020 A slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms about northern and central districts north of Fraser Island, mostly inland of the east coast. 24.01.2022 South east coast 12 month rain fall outlook issued 8 october 2020 ISSUE NOTES ENSO status: La Niña ... IOD status: Negative SAM status: Positive La Niña thresholds have been met due to continued cooling in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific waters in the last month. The atmospheric and ocean conditions have both exceeded La Niña thresholds, with the current Nino3.4 index registering a value of -0.68 and the Southern Oscillation Index is +9.5, now well over the La Niña threshold of +7. The majority of models predict that La Niña will peak in December, with all eight models predicting the event will last until January and 5 of 8 models to February. During this month’s model run, the strength of the La Niña event has increased since last month, however at this stage the event is not expected to be as strong as the 2010-2012 La Niña. To the west of Australia, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) has shifted into a negative phase, which is likely to continue through October. Three of six international models indicate a negative IOD to be sustained for the duration of November, before becoming neutral in December. La Niña typically favours periods of positive SAM, which can increase the amount of precipitation along the eastern half of the country, due to prevailing onshore winds. The combination of La Niña and negative IOD conditions increase the likelihood of above normal precipitation in spring and summer across much of Australia. In terms of precipitation over Australia, the remainder of spring looks wetter than normal for much of Australia. However, normal to below normal precipitation is forecast for parts of western WA and western TAS. During summer, much of the country is likely to remain wetter than normal including western WA during these months. Western TAS precipitation outlook continues to be normal through summer. La Niña typically increases the number of cyclones and brings an early start to the northern wet season. Issued Oct 8

23.01.2022 Storm outlook 2 December 2020 The worst storms at present could be around kalbar / boonah area again, there has been some adjustment over the past few days , b...ut has remained quiet steady. There is now a 1006 hpa low at inglewood area pushing the back end . however it should be wel noted that from Boonah to Kingaroy area may also be a target as the predicted energy is also here . so the fine adjustment on where storms will fire up and drop there loads could be any ones guess at presemt . stephen.

19.01.2022 Might be a bit interesting storm wise in the central western areas of Queensland today! Quite impressive to see a fairly deep 15-20 knot E/NE flow expected thro...ugh the low levels today which when combined with the 30 knot westerly flow in the mids will likely generate sufficient bulk shear for a supercell or two. Providing activity doesn't get too cluttered (as it is likely to develop early), could see some locally destructive wind gusts occur especially with the relatively high LCL environment. Instability levels aren't as high as they can be in these setups, but the shear should be sufficient to get allow for the development of a few severe storms. See more

The images are still holding with high figures for Total Totals Index of > 56, this... means it can be scattered severe storms . The sweat Value in the model today , at this model run time is indicating closer to 390 , over 400 is heading into Dangerous form . The next few hours will see some more consolidation as well . 15.01.2022 Parts of Queensland & N NSW Record Their Hottest November Day in 100+ Years as La Nina Easterlies Fail! When you think of heat records, a La Nina year is not th...e year you normally associate with them in Queensland but that's exactly what's happened! It's not just QLD either, there's been many records that have occurred through NSW and South Australia too as this intense burst of heat spreads across. Given some of these records have been around since the 1800s, that's very impressive! La Nina years are normally characterised by dominant, easterly winds across the Pacific Ocean. These winds push moisture into eastern Australia, and normally they help block the westerly flow that can occur across the country. Unfortunately for most of November, the traditional ridging through the western Pacific has been largely non-existent and that's meant we've been seeing these hotter, westerly winds pushing in from central to northern Australia, eastwards. Of course it's not just this that's contributed to it. Large areas of northern Australia were already building up heat even months ago, and this was because of the limited amount of moisture and cloud coming across from the Indian Ocean. The lower amounts of cloud can help contributed to higher levels of heat over these areas (which is often touted as the "heat engine of the country" as this is where most of the heatwaves stem from). The good news is that the patterns should be changing to be more typical of a La Nina in December and we should begin to see increasing easterly winds. But it's important to remember that a La Nina isn't a guarantee of a cool, wet summer - only that more often than not, these summers are a little cooler and wetter than normal. The term La Nina only refers to the oceanic temperature patterns in the Pacific Ocean. Sometimes the atmosphere 'decouples' from this pattern (which is what has happened now), but there are definitely some strong hints that this should change and we'll see more moisture push back into eastern Australia which will hopefully bring some much needed rainfall to parts of Queensland and northern NSW.

10.01.2022 Storm Season On the Way for NSW & QLD! The upcoming weather patterns are looking MUCH stormier across large parts of NSW and Queensland with an increasing numbe...r of trough systems likely to push through. This is likely linked to a weakening of the positive Southern Annular Mode which will see some westerly influences creep northwards which will be sufficient to collide against the ridging in the western Pacific to provide a solid clash of airmasses that will increase instability. When it comes to storm forecasting it's far too early to determine which areas may be impacted or where the highest potential for severe storms will be. However there looks to be relatively active upper level patterns which should provide sufficient shear for some severe storm activity (I've overlaid the 500mb winds with the lifted index in the attached images to show this). Of course, it's a La Nina year and that means we expect higher levels of moisture than usual to occur with this system so some rain areas may occur too. As we push into the second half of next week, it will definitely pay to pay attention to the forecasts and outlooks. (Some storm activity is also likely in NSW today and tomorrow but severe storm activity, while possible, should remain much more isolated, with activity next week expected to be more widespread).
