09.01.2022 Acupuncture has become widely known for its use with pain conditions and this is for good reason it works. By stimulating Acupuncture points with a needle, me...ssages are sent to the brain via neural pathways, the brain then releases our bodies own opioid like chemicals such as endorphins that work on lowering pain sensations. The needle also stimulates blood vessels and soft tissue around an acupuncture point creating improved local blood flow and vessel dilation which in turn can help an area to feel less pain. 08.01.2022 STRESS How are you feeling today? How is your energy? So often we keep pushing ourselves when we are so so close to burnout - totally depleted and running on empty... By not taking time to replenish our energy, our body thinks it is in a state of emergency. If this continues it can lead to what some people term Adrenal Fatigue but which is better described as. HPA-Axis disruption. This can lead to symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, poor sleep and brain fog. Activating our stress response drives up our cortisol and - if chronically elevated - this can lead to more serious health problems down the line. HOW TO RESET 1.How you start your day matters. I am not personally a fan of getting up early, but certainly appreciate the health benefits this can deliver. If this idea really does exhaust you then try getting up just 10 minutes earlier. Use that time to meditate, journal and check in with how you are feeling. 2. Give up sugar. Blood sugar balance is central to adrenal health. It is about what we eat - and when. 3. Give yourself [at minimum] 15 minutes when you get home from work to relax; meditate, sit with a cup of tea, breathe deeply, do some gentle stretches. Anything that gives your body a chance to unwind before the evening. 4. Protect your energy throughout the day. Practice saying NO to anything that depletes you further 5. Try to get 7-8 hours of good quality sleep every night. Cortisol levels are regulated by a master circadian clock. Certain supplements like magnesium may be helpful if sleep is a problem. Exhaustion has been a huge issue for me. I was running on empty for years. It takes time and dedication to nurture yourself back to life. Happy Monday! Lisa
