24.01.2022 5 fun facts about Quail 1. Quail can fly! People often lose their new pets by not knowing this. Keep in an aviary or use bird netting over their run. 2. Quail can make themselves poisonous! Don't panic.... Quail that migrate down the coast of Africa don't have much food - so they eat hemlock. Which makes them poisonous to anyone who hunts them! (hint - don't hunt quail in Africa) 3. They are FUNNY!!! They play, especially though the "teenage" stage. They jump back, play... bow, and dart forward. But like the play of a kitten it's for survival as it makes them harder for predators to catch. 4. They love light. If you put a light in part of their pen at night they will congregate towards it. 5. They smile! Well, some do. Looked at head on many quails have a quirky little smile on their faces. See more

23.01.2022 We don't just grow quails here. We also grow food for quails....and people are allowed to share. This year I have gone all out and am planting my front "lawn" into an edible garden as well. I'll show progress photos.

22.01.2022 There are eggs in the incubator! Just a test run. Bit early for full fertility yet.

17.01.2022 All is quiet in the quail pen... it's raining and everyone is waiting. Soon it will be Spring and Spring means - baby quailies!!! The weeks are taking soooo long. I can't wait to fire up the incubators again!

16.01.2022 Last season all my boys said "Look at me!" Now my alpha says that, but we have one that just trills, one that says "pick me!" and one that says "I'm a cookie!"

15.01.2022 I sorted out all my breeders, I had far too many boys. Now all is peaceful and quiet so the boys must be happy. The girls are all big fluffy and chunky, ready to face breeding season. Boys weights are between 320 and 390(!!!) and girls are between 380 and 426. Can't wait to see the next generation!

15.01.2022 I'm pulling babies out of the incubator and already I can tell they are larger then they were last season. Bodes well :)

12.01.2022 First hatch has reached 4 weeks and is out in the aviary (which is the length of our house!) and loving all the room. They are sharing it with two pekin hens, 2 conures and a macaw who thinks it's all very entertaining! Second lot of eggs just went into lockdown!

09.01.2022 Fertilised eggs ready now. Happy to post.

05.01.2022 August is giving us one last blast of cold air before Spring arrives. I'm starting to look forward to spring. My front yard will be full of flowers, my aviary will be full of growing quail! I've hatched my first batch and they are just over a week old and covered in pin feathers. They grow so incredibly fast and are already in the "big baby brooder". Sending more eggs out to become future quail for other people. :)

04.01.2022 Hatching happening as I type, more information when it's finished :)

01.01.2022 Eggs available to hatch your own :)
