20.01.2022 HOW TO IDENTIFY MUSANG KING and D24 Musang King is like black-market gold. It's the most sought after, desired and expensive of all the durian varieties, selli...ng for more than twice the price of a more average durian. It's also the durian most likely to be faked. That's right: unscrupulous durian vendors will try to pull a fast one on the naive and sell an average durian under the name and price of the famous Musang King. Luckily, all durian varieties have slightly different shapes, colours, and spikes and you can learn to distinguish a true Musang King from a fake. Here are 5 tips to identify a true Musang King, used by the Queen of Durian, Zahrah Zakaria. The most well-known characteristic of Musang King is it's deep, turmeric yellow flesh. But Musang King is not the only durian with a dark yellow flesh. 1. Shell Colour.Durian shells vary pretty widely in colour from yellow-brown to camo-green to tinged with purple. Unlike other fruits, the colour does not always denote ripeness, but is a characteristic of the variety. Musang King is a dusky green-tan bordering on yellow. Often the coloration will change between the tips of the thorns and the base. In comparison, D24 is typically a homogenous green. 2. Spike Density and Shape Spikes can be either far apart or very close together, kind of square and pyramidal, or round and thin as a needle. In Musang King, the spike is fairly large and pyramidal, set fairly far apart. Compare to the spike of a D24, which clusters 3. Visibility of SeamsAll durians open via weakened seams running the length of each lobe from tip to stem. I am in totally in love with these seams. They are like the Achilles Heel of the world's most formidable fruit. On some durians, these seams are visible lines or bands, while on others the seams are invisible. Musang King's seams are very visible, meeting on the bottom in a broad five pointed star. Often the spikes will even point away from the seam, creating an effect almost like the opening of the Red Sea. In contrast, the seams on a D24 are practically invisible. The spikes even point toward each other, further hiding the seam beneath a spiky bower. 4. CrownAnother way to identify durian variety is by the shape of the band connecting the stem to the fruit. This is sometimes called the crown. How fitting is that - the King of Fruit has a crown! The spikes face downwards away from it and there's even a little bit of a gap between the crown and where the spikes start. That's the Musang King. In contrast, D24's crown has spikes growing up and over it, facing upward in jagged imitation of a traditional king's crown. 5. Stem LengthAll durian varieties have different lengths of stem. Some have very long stems, like the variety called Gan Yao in Thailand. Others have stems so short you can barely fit your fingers onto it to pick it up. Musang King has a relatively long stem, while D24 has a short stem. In Summary: When looking over a possible Musang King durian, you're looking for a green-yellow fruit with a long stem, a very visible tan five-pointed star on the bottom, pyramidal spikes without much space between them, and of course that brilliant yellow flesh.

18.01.2022 A Raw Coconut Durian Fudge Recipe that is absolute TO DIE FOR!!!! Created by Raw Food Chef and Rapper Jonny Freesh Ingredients *All the products linked to below are from UbudDirect, my favorite online Organic Grocery Store in Bali, and are affiliate links. This means RawFoodBali receives a very small percentage of any purchases you make after clicking one of these links. The prices stay the same, and you help support me so I can keep providing you high quality content and in...formation about healthy living in Bali :) 1 cup Durian Flesh cup Cashew Butter (4 cups Cashews, cup Coconut Oil)* cup Coconut Butter (Make yourself by putting Coconut Flakes in the food processor for 15-20 minutes until they turn into butter) cup Dates tsp Salt tsp Vanilla Extract *I'm going to be making a post about the secret to making TRULY Raw nut butters very soon, but if you are buying nut butters then don't worry about having coconut oil in it. The recipe will work with pure cashew butter. Instructions 1.Blitz all ingredients until smooth and creamy. 2.Cover the inside of a sandwich sized tupperware in plastic wrap. 3.Pour mix into the tupperware. 4.Sprinkle Garnish on top. I used a whole bunch of desiccated coconut. 5.Put in freezer for 4-6 hours. 6.Pop fudge block out of tupperware, remove plastic wrap, and cut into pieces. 7.Marvel at the glory of the King of Fruits. This recipe makes around 10-12 healthy chunks of fudge. One piece is a seriously freesh treat. After my friend ate a few he drove home without his backpack (which had his house keys in them) and then drove into a ditch. Thats why they say DONT DURIAN AND DRIVE!!!

02.01.2022 The Durian Paradox.... The fact that a fruit exists that looks like a giant mace with spiky points proves that The Creator of the Universe exists, and has a sense of humour quote from a friend of mine. The world should be exposed to the wonders and secrets of the Asian equatorial area: tropical fruits! These regions include Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and other tropical areaseven Northern Australia Canada and the US are now discovering the phenomenon and are learning ...to plant it so you better be in the know! Lets start the first post with the most paradoxical one: Durian, a fruit that elicits the most polar of responses. Many Asians are in love with durian and think it tastes and smells good. This is an important point smells good. Theyre addicted to its sweet and exotic aroma, and love how it warms up their hearts and stomachs. However, some Asians will say that durian smells nasty like putrid fart and will run away at the slightest whiff. If you still havent seen this monster, its usually a brownish yellow-green colour on the outside with somewhat firm skin. The skin is thick enough when ripe for the durian to be a feat to open. The inside yellow part you eat is soft like custard. When not ripe, it hangs on trees along the streets of equatorial Asian regions green and very SPIKY! In old times, Asians must have used it for defence in wars as they can probably knock enemies out with one thrust of the durian. The fruit is yellow on the inside, with a brown, usually big seed. The brighter the yellow, the sweeter and more intense it tastes, and the stinkier or lovelier it smells depending on whether or not you like the fruit. People know where Singapore stands as a country with the signs everywhere forbidding carriage of durians on their transits; however, its somewhat odd that theyve dedicated their Esplanade building to boast the beauty of this spiky creature. Therefore, the world knows deep down Singaporeans probably dig durian and cant have enough of it. Why else would they need the signs? As one of the worlds top food connoisseurs, Asians have developed many culinary art forms, one being The Art of Eating Fruits. So heres how Asians get to business: 1. Asians know their knives. They must buy the cheapest and sharpest. If it becomes dull, theyll use the back of their rice bowls to sharpen the knives. Primitive? Not for the Asians. 2. Asians know exactly how to hold their durians. Asians hold the side of the durian, gripping areas between the spikes with their fingers. 3. At places that are raised higher, they work their knives down one inch into the fruit while spreading the open slit with their fingers while avoiding smashing the fruit. Remember, asians are perfectionists. See more
