24.01.2022 The sun is hidden today but the warm wind is still blowing hard! Spring is such a mischievous child, constantly throwing all her toys around, finding it hard to settle on one! So I made a cheese toastie just now .. and for a moment it brings a little sunshine!... Today I am full engrossed in finalizing my new online Four Steps: Meditation for Beginners course. I love it! Im enjoying being back at the beginning and sharing all the joyful learnings for many years teaching. But the crazy Spring energy just wants me to get it FINISHED so I can jump into another project .. mix it up .. chase another tune. But it makes SUCH a difference .. to everything. >>Wake with the sun. Gifted a pale pink sky and utter silence.... >>Meditate. My personal practice includes a silent mantra and open awareness. Gifted that essence of all is well. >>A lazy spell. Cozy in bed letting thoughts drift and dreams bubble. A little long hand journalling. Tapping (which I havent done in ages but felt compelled to). Snoozing just a little. >>Mindful Movement to wake up my body and shaking practice to energize my insides. Gifted .. that life energy that brings a smile. >>Open doors and windows. 21.01.2022 The fifth chakra - the Throat Chakra - or Vishuddha (meaning 'pure' or 'purification') is the first chakra primarily concerned with the spiritual plane, ruling communication, creativity, connection and personal intention. The throat chakra is our voice centre and is challenged when we do not express ourselves truthfully. When we issue falsehoods or half-truths we are energetically polluting the throat chakra and such behaviour violates both our spirit and body. 20.01.2022 ! Tonights a great opportunity to see Mars, and also to confirm its the red planet because the moon will be nearby. Every 26 months, Mars ...reaches opposition - opposite the sun, closest to earth and brightest. The next ones in mid-October, BUT DONT WAIT, its already very bright and shining with an impressive orange light in our sky, easily seen with the naked eye even from the city. Tonight it will rise in the east about 9:30 pm and by 10 -10:30 pm, it will be prominent but low to the horizon. By this time the moon will have also risen and will be just under it; this way you can confirm youre observing Mars. Show the family and tell your friends, but dont miss it. Report your success here! 16.01.2022 Today all of our senses are being called to attention .. outside the Spring wind is loud, ferocious and wild. The wind can easily unsettle us .. lead us quick to anger or feelings of edginess and irritability. Our transition into Spring can be a year of wills .. and the wild energetic winds are going to drag us from the quiet internal depths of the water element (Winter) into the bright, driven and creative energy of the wood element (Spring). ... This is when it is useful to have some grounding and self-care practices at hand .. and why its vital to regularly engage with these tools when the weather is calm; so that when the wind changes and energy is scattered, you can smooth the transition and find your way back to balance. 15.01.2022 Why does cleaning and cleansing our sacred space (home or other) feel so joyful in Spring! This morning: *Wake to beautiful sunny blue sky (gratitude practice)... *Meditate to the sound of the wind rustling through the trees (mindfulness practice) *Shower off the remaining nighttime energy in the shower (energy cleansing) *Healthy pancakes with fresh berries bought yesterday (colorful fresh food to nourish the eye and the body) *Take breakfast outside with daughter to connect and laugh and release our cares to the wind (reconnection) *Open all doors and windows (inviting fresh energy and fresh air) *Launched into unplanned cleaning mode together (thats rarely a thing) and we did a great job, quickly and effectively (removing rubbush outside immediately) SPRING in Australia .. and she entices us to freshen up our inner and outer spaces! 14.01.2022 This week in the Seasonal Lounge our focus is on our Sense of SIGHT as a gateway to meditation. Often we miss truly seeing, or hearing, because our tendency is to filter life through our mind .. which means that we miss the more subtle present moment experiences that are arising in our thoughts, sensations or emotions or the purity of seeing or hearing. In the Seasonal Lounge this week we looked at what to do with the eyes in meditation.... Traditional instruction might suggest eyes open, but really this is more capped (about 1/3rd open), which reduces visual input but keeps us from daydreaming or fantasising. Open eyes also aligns nicely with our intention to live mindfully and with meditative awareness when out in the world when our eyes are always open and so we learn and practice this intention in our meditation. Outside of traditional techniques and teachings, I encourage you to try both eyes open and eyes closed and cultivate the ability to meditate either way because then you will have the ability to meditate pretty much anywhere, anytime. meditative freedom! 13.01.2022 You know when you have a sweet intention, or big dream, that just seems a little too large and out of reach .. you just cant see the how? Well this extended period of isolation and containment has given me a truly wondrous gift and a shining light forward. Haha .. what am I talking about?... Well with time to reflect and dream, and the space to listen and communicate .. Ive followed little sparks of fresh ideas and gathered all my notes (years and years of notes) and my personal meditation journals, resources that Ive shared in classes and on retreats .. and found a new home for them. A new online teaching platform. Because this is the new world .. and I/we need to find community in new ways and in new forms. And I have a very special ritual that I look forward to each year .. it begins with lighting a beautiful candle, a period of meditation, and then I will journal my dreams, and create a vision board for the coming year. It is my meditation practice that is my ‘super power’ .. it gives me an opportunity to ‘tune into’ my intuition, and this directs and influences the decisions and choices that I make every day .. just like a GPS!... Mindful Movement to Stillness Meditation Making the transition to stillness - mind, body and spirit - for meditation can often be challenging, especially when we are feeling chaotic, stressed, fractured or overwhelmed. Mindful movement recognizes that sometimes it is best to meet our stress and tension at an active and engaged level .. moving the body in order to engage and burn off excess energy, before shifting gently toward stillness for meditation.
