18.01.2022 A fascinating exploration of the creative process of one of Australias leading contemporary artists, Quilty - Painting the Shadows follows Ben Quilty as he completes one of his most challenging works to date. 17.01.2022 PREMIERING TONIGHT ON ABC TV + iview at 9:30pm. Legendary film-maker Catherine Hunter first filmed Ben Quilty more than ten years ago. Using the assembly and hanging of his new exhibition as a framework, Hunter explores the journey of this controversial artist from that of a young man obsessed with Holden Toranas to the one who brought the full spectrum of the Afghanistan tragedy to public consciousness through his art. While his career to date could be described as kaleid...oscopic and people are aware of certain facets of his life and causes - there has been little attempt to understand him as a painter. Quilty - Painting the Shadows seeks to bring the fractured portrait of the man and the painter into sharper view. A must-watch!

17.01.2022 In 'Quilty - Painting the Shadows', artist Ben Quilty travels to #MyallCreek in Northern NSW where, on the afternoon of Sunday 10 June, 1838, 12 stockmen brutally slaughtered a group of 28 Aboriginal men, women and children who were camped peacefully at the station of Myall Creek. This massacre marks the only time in the colonial period that white men were arrested, charged and hung for their crimes against Aboriginal people. With the permission of Gamilaraay Elders, ‘Quilt...y - Painting the Shadows’ follows Quilty’s exploration of the Myall Creek massacre and his growing interest in the dark corners of our national history over many months. Learn more about the Myall Creek massacre at: https://www.myallcreek.org and see the premiere of Quilty - Painting the Shadows on Tuesday November 19 at 9.30pm on ABC TV.

09.01.2022 A good painting is very beautiful but it can tell all sorts of stories and at one end the meaning can be quite dark but paints such a luscious thing, such a beautiful medium, that you can kind of deceive people into reading the story that they would be uncomfortable naturally reading. Ben Quilty Quilty - Painting the Shadows is a must-see and airs on ABC TV on Tuesday November 19 at 9.30pm. Set a reminder!

07.01.2022 Airing tomorrow on ABC TV + iview at 9:30pm, Quilty - Painting the Shadows is an in-depth look at the life and art of award-winning Australian artist Ben Quilty. 05.01.2022 Quilty Painting the Shadows follows the making of a major work by leading contemporary artist Ben Quilty about the #MyallCreek massacre over a number of months from its beginnings as a series of drawings to the creation of one of his signature #Rorschach paintings. As Mark Tedeschi QC, author of Murder at Myall Creek, says: The massacre at Myall Creek was particularly significant because it marked the one and only time in the colonial period when whites who had committe...d a massacre were brought to justice by the criminal justice system in New South Wales. And it was only because a number of people did the right thing that the system was able to achieve justice. And because it is the only time when that happened, we know more about the massacre at Myall Creek in 1838 than we do about any of the other massacres that occurred, all over Australia. Tune in at 9:30pm on Tuesday 19 November on ABC TV + iview to see the world Premiere: Quilty - Painting the Shadows on ABC TV and see the corners of this countrys dark past for yourself.
