Thank you for making me part of your journey @kanani.draper ! #Repost @kanani.draper with @get_repost Our architect didn’t shy away when I said I wanted to keep our traditional style (and to be fair, somewhat dated) hob style two way fireplace. I know that so often it’s tempting to just remove everything and start over, but for me there is always character in findin...g a way to better use what is already there. Originally placed into a heavy square brick bagged brick wall, this fireplace used to be indoor outdoor, it was perfectly functional but not really a design statement. This was a problem as throughout this renovation the patio has been enclosed and the fireplace has become a main central feature. Keeping with our #midcenturymodern vibe, we’d originally thought about cladding the fireplace in crackenback free form... but our architect cleverly decided it made sense to round the edge of the fireplace and tile it in stunning #kitkattiles with an even more gorgeous #terrazo tile insert. The builders made a frame and poured concrete over rio bar... rendering the existing bagged brick and sanding it back to make a smooth surface for tiling. This is where we’re up to now... tiles get stated next week and we can’t wait!
