Although in this scenario, you may want to avoid some undesirable pitfalls by referring to our checklist below. - Check the licensing and reputation of any company or tradesperson you are considering. 08.01.2022 Here is a follow up from a question we got last week about renovation that cost $10,000 or less - you do not have to use a registered building practitioner for work that involves only one of these tasks listed below: - plastering - tiling, including wall and floor - electrical work (the electrician must still be licensed)... - glazing - installing floor coverings - insulating - plastering - painting - plumbing, gas-fitting and draining (the plumber must still be licensed) - attaching external fixtures such as a chain wire fence A tradesperson or a company who uses more than one of the above skills, such as plastering and painting, must be registered with the VBA if the total cost of the work is more than $10,000.
