24.01.2022 So....this is very likely going to be Quota International of Maleny’s last but one Facebook Page post. Our club officially dissolves on 30th September, along with Quota International and a fair few other clubs around the world. We have been active in Maleny for just shy of 31 years. We have enjoyed working for our community and helping so many people and organisations in need. As immediate past president of QI Maleny I am so pleased that our last but one project in our ...community was able to happen before we dissolved. The collaboration with Rotary, Zonta, and Lions Service clubs regarding a community response to the elimination of domestic and family violence has been something I have wanted to get going for several years. The Combined Service Group Speak Up Now - Step Domestic and Family Violence will continue on post the demise of Quota Maleny, knowing that it has Quota members support and a very generous financial donation to help it move forward with its aim and goals. Our FINAL project is still to come within the next couple of weeks. It too has a domestic and family violence focus. This project is the renovation and painting of our exisiting Quota Bench outside of the Maleny Post Office (with a little help from The Mens Shed and Rotary Maleny). The Red Bench will become part of the Red Rose Foundation’s Red Bench Project. The aim of the Red Benches, which are appearing all over Queensland and other States are to be conversation starters around domestic and family violence. A plaque will be fixed to the red bench representing the Red Rose Foundation and the community groups involved in this project. The following article was in the Sunshine Valley Gazette this week.

24.01.2022 Please see the bottom right plaque. This is Quota Maleny’s final project before we dissolve in on 30th September. This plaque will be installed on the Quota Maleny bench which is located outside the Maleny post office since our club donated it around 20 years ago. The bench will be temporarily removed and taken to the Maleny Mens Shed. It will have a complete overhaul and be painted Post Office Red (paint donated by Rotary Maleny). This small project demonstrates loca...l community collaboration between various service and community groups. The red bench will become a conversation point so we can raise awareness of domestic and family violence within our community and educate people in what we can do as a community to help reduce further violence. The Speak Up Now - Stop Domestic and Family Violence, supporters of this project, will work with the Sunshine Council and local Body Corporate owners to get permission to paint further Red Benches within Maleny and along the Blackall Range in the near future. Our thanks go to the owners of the Riverside Centre in Maleny for permitting us to support the Red Rose Foundation, the D&FV organisation which started the Red Bench campaign. See more

13.01.2022 A big thank you to all our Quota International of Maleny members. Together we volunteer hundreds of hours every year and give so much to our local and wider community. Every minute we give is appreciated by many.

13.01.2022 Another domestic and family violence murder. Another young women’s life lost. This sad story is from PNG. What is the difference between this murder and those in Australia? Well here the women and community in PNG are demonstrating their OUTRAGE. They are in the streets saying as one that domestic and family violence is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Why are we not doing the same over here? This woman was tortured for days before she died. Now, PNG women are rising up http://www.abc.net.au//murder-of-19yo-png-mum-spa/12412656

13.01.2022 If you agree with what this group is trying to do within our community (raise awareness of domestic and family violence issues and how we as a community can help eliminate it) then please like this page. thanks Val

12.01.2022 May each year is DV Awareness Month. Historically it is where we run public campaigns and events to bring the community together to understand the impact of domestic and family violence on the lives of people in our community. This year everything is being done remotely or on line. No Reclaim the Night marches, no closing off Maple Street for an hour while advocates walk the length of the street then congregate at Tesch Park and the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre. No Candle Li...ght Vigils (although spectacularly many people in our community lit a candle and posted it on social media in remembrance of the many who have died as a result of being victims of domestic and family violence). This year it’s different for so many reasons which is why this year I am posting so many stories on social media to remind our community that although life is different for many, some things never change. There is clear evidence of a high rise in D&FV incidents in the last 100 days as victims and perpetrators have been isolated together with few safe places to escape to or to go to for a time out. So it’s imperative that we continue to confront this issue. All people can and probably are affected by D&FV in one way or another. You may be a victim of abuse, a perpetrator of abuse, a child exposed to violence, a parent or family member or friend or work colleague, watching from the outside wishing their was something they could do to help and protect their daughters son, grandchild, sister, brother, etc. friend, etc. The message we need to get out there to our community is that we should never just standby and watch domestic and family violence in action. We can all by active bystanders. We can all intervene when we see an incident of DV in our streets, public places, or hear something which doesn’t sound right coming from a neighbours house. Let’s all learn mechanisms for safe intervening. Let’s get the message out to our community that #EnoughIsEnough and #StopViolenceInOurCommunity and we can all be #SafeActiveBystanders. Today is LGBTI DV Awareness Day...the purpose of today is to demonstrate that D&FV occurs in all communities and all societies. It does not matter what gender you are, what colour you are, what age you are, what religious beliefs you have, where you live, how much you earn, who your family is, how educated you are, what your sexuality is..... Domestic and family violence can occur anywhere and we want to stop it being everywhere. Please help us to get our message out there. If anyone wants to know what they can do to help us with our campaign then please contact me. #I’mHereForYou Thank you.... on behalf of the Combined Service Clubs of Maleny and the Blackall Range.
